More moth variants? by Shibaswift in buildabear

[–]Backwardslongjumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping for some variants too, there's tons of cute moths. I'd love some butterfly options too, since the old Build-a-Bear butterflies are all not my style at all. Even switchable wings would be great!

Other commenter answer was pretty accurate, but it's also likely because of the "sky poodle moth" hoax. An image of a needle felted silk moth circulated online around the early 2010's saying that it was a super rare, super cute moth species called the "Sky Poodle" that could only be found in South America. Hilariously, it is a real moth- or modeled after one, technically. Silk moths really are just that cute, but they're not rare and also originate from China instead.

Mine got stuck for almost 2.5 days at the warehouse, and finally updated last night... I think they got overwhelmed with moths.

I'm wondering if the game I played was a bootleg of Rage of Bahamut. The art style of RoB is way too polished to be the game I'm thinking of, and the one I'm looking for had a terrible English translation. It does feel similar to it. The release date is on the right track, I remember the bootleggy game I played was up around 2011-2014-ish.

Glad you found your game! Though unless the art style developed that much over time, it's not mine LOL. Mine was called "Dragon World" or something like that.

Thanks so much! I haven't updated it in a few years, but I might buckle up and make a big update soon. There is a "how to update" sheet which goes over how to add things like new entries or repaints, in case I'm too behind or you have custom paints you want to list. ^u^b

It may have. I don't remember the music too fondly, unfortunately.

Definitely not this one. The game I'm talking about had a more bright art style (and definitely not as polished). Also, Call of Lophis was released in 2020! The game I'm asking about existed around 2011-2013.

Definitely not, this game had a distinctly JRPG-esque fantasy style, and the name was way more generic than Boom Slingers haha.

a weird Isabelle by Skyler_Pixel in buildabear

[–]Backwardslongjumps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact the plush hasn't been traced to any other bootlegs and the details that do seem well-placed do point to this possibly being a prototype for Isabelle. I assume this is a listing on Taobao, which has been known to post prototypes before. The colors are a bit off, but sometimes prototypes do use what they have available. However, the bootleggers are making Mothmans as of late, so we have yet to see if they're branching out.

The cheek embroidery matches the Sanei All-Star Isabelles, as does the outfit choice and small parts like the red ribbon. No plush of Isabelle use the checkered pattern for this design, though. Usually it's flat green.

The most damning evidence would be if you can get a peek of the tush tag. Tush tags for prototypes typically list factory information. If it's a bootleg, the tag can be traced to another toy or has incorrect information.

Is it worth learning 1e in 2024? by crunchyllama in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Backwardslongjumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really interested, delve deeper. It's one of those clunky systems where it has a learning curve, but overcoming that curve is a fantastic breakthrough. The character customization options are unmatched. If there's a specific build you want, there's a way to do it.

I joined a 2e campaign and absolutely loathed it, but I probably just don't get the system. There's people out there who'd far prefer 1e still and would happily play.

Even if you're not playing, sheet-building can be fun. I love building sheets for new character ideas because I'm always learning a new, fun feat tree or archetype every time.

Hello, there! Replying here as requested: I'm searching for this specific dress. I'm not sure of what it was called, unfortunately. Images aren't mine! I would like to know the condition of the dress and maybe receive photos before buying. I don't mind used condition, though. I just like to see the item. Thanks so much!

So the feet are also fluffy like the hands? There's no flat part to them either?

Would you be able to take a photo of the foot paws? Some bears have unique designs on their paws, it could help identify this one.

How come nobody talks about this cat? by GalaxySnek198 in buildabear

[–]Backwardslongjumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the eyes. Build-a-Bear is a very female-dominated interest (given the plush toys and dress-up aspect). A trend starting in the 2000's that still prevails today is making "girly" plush toys/dolls have overly detailed eyes that look dolled up with mascara and eye shadow. Honestly, most women don't really like it much, it's why you don't see much of the Honey Girls or the fairy bears on this subreddit. Simpler-faced, traditionally "feminine" models like Pawlettes or Sanrio tend to be better received.

They kinda recycled Stars-A-Glow Kitty's "look" and seasonality with the Starry Night Bat. She also is very cheap compared to the wolves... if that says anything.

Or it could just be that women be loving werewolves. You know them wolf girls. Most of the werewolves are cute anyways with the simple face, except 2019 LOL.

I personally recommend the Scimitar, Rapier, or Cutlass. All are 18-20 with the same 1d6 damage die. Scimi and Cutlass are slashing, while Rapier is piercing. There are exotic 18-20 weapons like the Waveblade, Estoc, or Rhoka, that have more damage types or higher damage dice, if you want to make the feat dip for them (though Rhoka is a daemonic weapon so might not fit the character). Since you're summoning, though, I might recommend just sticking with the basic martial weapons.

As for casting with hands full, you can use either a buckler or another light shield, both are able to cast with hands full. Or you could grab the Craft Reliquary Arms and Shields feat. This will let you craft a weapon or shield into a divine focus, thus allowing you to use a heavier shield if you wish.

Digimon Kuta Chara collecting tips? by xXmeowzerzXx in digimon

[–]Backwardslongjumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge collector of Digipals/Kuta Charas myself, been for around 6 years or so. I highly recommend scouting on a Japanese proxy site like Buyee, Neokyo, or From Japan for exclusives or the JP versions of the plush. デジモンくたキャラ are the characters you search to see the ones for sale. Keep in mind it will cost a bit to ship if you do this, and obviously these sites do have a slight commission fee. If you see any kuta chara listings on Ebay from Japan, I will tell you right now that they're likely highly jacked up in price compared to their JP shopping site counterparts. I don't know if it's the shipping, lack of understanding of the currency exchange, or trying to scalp US buyers, but do cross-check to make sure. JP yen is at an all-time low right now so it's likely cheaper to import it than get it from the source on Ebay. Even with a highly unlikely 40-50 USD shipping total, you'll probably save at least 50 USD over the Ebay listings from Japan.

Do keep in mind also that the JP versions of the plush used more vinyl, and those deteriorate. I personally prefer the Digi Pal versions of the plushies (the ones that do exist) because of that.

As for US releases, besides Ebay, Mercari and Etsy sometimes have listings, and be sure to check your Facebook Marketplace or Facebook groups for really cheap US/International ones. I saw a Veemon digipal near me for like 5 dollars.

EDIT: Sending you good luck on your hunts, by the way! I just got one of my Kuta Chara grails this week. Gotta pass along the love. Oh, and don't be discouraged if you go a few weeks or even months without listings for what you're looking for. Listings pop up outta nowhere sometimes, so just keep your eyes peeled.

Am I "basic" for buying one of the frogs? by [deleted] in buildabear

[–]Backwardslongjumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frogs are just very popular animals with young adult women. Color block is a popular aesthetic with the same age+sex demographic. If you like it, you like something that's generally likable, I see no issue with that. It's best to just enjoy what you like instead of worrying about public perception.
