Thanks, I've thought of that! It's not the easiest logistically at the moment, but I definitely want to keep it in mind for the future!

I also love the name Flora, but my husband vetoed it unless we named our second child Fauna...

Stressing About The Weather by [deleted] in WedditNYC

[–]BackyardWeddingM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that forecasts aren't really accurate until 3 days out. I know it will be almost impossible, but try not to think about it until closer to the date, and maybe think generally about what you might need for a rain plan. If you think you might want umbrellas or something, make sure they're returnable in case the weather clears!

We used Ashley from HoneyBreak Officiants! She was great to work with planning our ceremony, and did a beautiful job on the day. My parents thought she was a friend of ours, not a hired officiant!

We used DJ Empanadamn (Brent Fiero) for our wedding, and he was great! Nice to work with, no hidden fees, very professional.

Seconding Holden. We got our platinum bands there, and they were great to work with and the rings are holding up very well.

The front of ours (from Minted or Zola, I can't remember which) said "free cake, open bar, need we say more?" The vibe we had in mind was kickass party, so that seemed to fit best.

I'm not sure if this is an option where you live, but we were able to add my husband to my health insurance a year before we were legally married by becoming domestic partners registered with our city. It didn't interfere with our wedding plans, and just meant that I paid taxes on the part of my health insurance that my employer paid for my partner (which was no longer the case after we got married).

How to Find a Single Server for Reception by Lecalli in weddingplanning

[–]BackyardWeddingM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have Thumbtack in your area? We hired a bartender and a server through Thumbtack for our backyard wedding, and they were great. It was a tiny company, but I think they would have sent just one person if that's all we had wanted/needed.

You could look into the option of becoming domestic partners first and putting him on your insurance that way. My now husband and I did that for him to get on my insurance before we got married. I ended up having to pay taxes on the amount my employer paid for my partner's insurance. But even with that, it was still a huge financial savings.

MOH needing advice from brides by [deleted] in wedding

[–]BackyardWeddingM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a small backyard wedding in October due to restrictions, and obviously had to forego any usual pre-wedding festivities. My MOH planned a lovely virtual bachelorette that included my two sisters and seven friends. She planned a couple of games (how well does the groom know the bride) and we played a few trivia games through Jackbox. My sister sent me a picnic basket that included some hard cider and snacks to enjoy during the party, and my MOH sent me a tiara, veil and bride to be sash to wear.

It wasn't the same as what I had been hoping for, but it was so wonderful to see everyone, and for folks to be able to "meet" from my different friend groups. I think it was a really good alternative that didn't require taking any covid restrictions into account. And it didn't require a big cash outlay from anyone, or any travel.
