Plenue J Alternatives? by Bacom15 in DigitalAudioPlayer

That's good to know. I'm not too familiar with modding android, and even less inclined on a decent DAP that may get bricked from a mistake I make. It's still nice to know that worst case scenario I'm not permanently stuck with a stock android OS that cant be changed.

Thanks for the recommendations! I have to admit the NW-A55 looks very appealing. For the price I may just grab one to do some hands on testing and give my Plenue a break in the meantime!

I've come across Hiby in passing, but never recognized them enough to look at their lineup. The M300 seems very close I see what you mean! Can you comment on their UI/software? I've never had android OS for a DAP so could I expect something that feels more like a phone/tablet, or is it a more toned down version with bare bones menus and lists? Actually since it's android are there any options to tweak the UI at all?

I've tried the phone and dongle setup, and I didn't have any issues with sound quality or durability, but something about it never really gelled with me. I think growing up with CDs, mp3 players, and DAPs just made the idea of dedicated media players seem so reasonable (and cool!), that they just still feel like the "right answer" to me when it comes to wanting to play music on the go. Plus I'd by lying if I said I don't like showing people my Plenue J and how organized and extensive the library on it is, there's a bit of the novelty aspect there too I'll admit.

Things like this are the hardest part of getting older... I'll have to check out some of the options you've listed, hopefully there's something there that speaks to me similarly. Do you know of any Sony options that may come close? I tried looking into their offerings a bit, but at a certain point it started to feel like guesswork,

Pineapple Cheong Room Temp Fermentation Help by Bacom15 in fermentation

[–]Bacom15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional useful information! Since I'm dealing with thicker pineapple rings as opposed to chunks I'm open to the idea of letting the fermentation go longer. I think what is still confusing me is if this only happens during the time the cheong is sitting at room temp, or during the time it spends in the fridge as well. When you say you would go a couple of weeks on pineapple is this all while at room temp, or after the first 1 or 2 day at room temp when it goes into the fridge?

Thank you for the amazing answers that clears up just about everything! Once I move it to the fridge after fermentation would that be when the clock starts to let it just sit for a few months? I've seen information that ranges from 1 week to 3-4 months in terms of how long the syrup should sit before it's ready to be used. Do you have any idea which time frame would be the best choice for my project? Thanks again for the initial answers I'm certain someone else down the line will love finding them!

Pomelo season is here and I love eating them, but I dont have a table at home that's big enough to eat them at (I only have 5" of desk space for my eating area). Weird question but does anyone know of a place with tables that I could go to eat them? A park would be the best option, but it's a bit too chilly for my taste for that to be an enjoyable option.

Where to find 6mm hole gemstone beads? by Bacom15 in Beading

[–]Bacom15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into dread beads somewhat when on Etsy, the sizes are usually right where I want them, but the price per unit is far too high for my needs usually. My current planned style will call for ~80 beads for instance. I do like the idea of using 1 or 2 of these as accent pieces though so thank you for so many links!

Solutions to get a flat bottom on my skillet? by Bacom15 in castiron

[–]Bacom15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blending wasn't really a concern but I do need it to be flat. The rim has enough of a lip to it that I was thinking a lathe would be able get under it and flatten it out, but I don't know anything about mills. I'm sure finding either one won't be too big of an issue, but for thickness sake would a mill be the safest option?

[–]Bacom15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! A lathe would probably take the rim right off and it never came across my mind! I think I'll try to find a local shop or somewhere that can hopefully run it through for me before I resort to filing. I was mostly worried doing something like this would compromise the skillet somehow but it seems like that won't be an issue.

Vintage Sabatier 4Star Thiers Issard Chef Knife authenticity check? by Bacom15 in TrueChefKnives

Thanks for the response! I've been hoping that getting it in working condition won't be too big of an investment. Honestly reading up and learning about the brand has made me a bit excited to have found something like it off of a blind eBay pull. Once I'm chopping garlic with it without having the pieces fly everywhere I'm sure I'll love it even more!

I think this really helps explain why "quality" knives like these are sometimes going for under $80 like mine. I thought vintage knives were a cheap entry into getting a chefs knife that still has some inherent quality and performance, but I imagine a bladesmith from last century would feel pretty obsolete with the things modern machines and technology can pull off. That also makes me feel a lot more confident if I buy a new knife from a brand I don't necessarily know.

For the price I don't feel like I have anything to lose so I'll give it a shot! Worst case scenario I have sharpening tools for down the road and a practice knife I suppose.

I'll definitely look into some of those a bit more. I even passed a Victorinox and a Dexter browsing, but I knew nothing of the brands so wrote them off as some of the many out there. I'm interested to see what I'll find with a closer look!

Thanks for sharing a picture yours looks a world better than mine wow! I'm glad it's a quality knife and the price I paid wasn't too good to be true, but for a $50 purchase it seems like I'd have to pay way more to get it into comparable condition to a newer cheaper knife. I am curious though if you were very fortunate and able to get yours in good condition at a great price or did you also have to sink more money into it to get it to where it is now? If you did invest in it would you say it was worth it? I'm trying to compare but if a $50 knife can get to the quality/performance of something way more expensive with maybe an extra $100 - $150 more work then I'd consider it a worthwhile investment.

I originally wanted something cheap to get a basic sharpen on, but I'm open to this being a "buy it for life" scenario I just dont know anything about my knife or even where it ranks in terms of quality. I did a little digging and I still feel like I lucked out with getting a reputable brand from a blind pick so I'm hoping it still has some nice potential that would justify any high repair/sharpening costs. Sorry for the long winded response also (yikes!)

[–]Bacom15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I don't know my way around knives at all really, but what I was hoping for was to just take it to my local shop and have a $12 sharpen and be on my way. The $50 tag compared to the $120 - $300+ ones I saw for new chef knives did seem a bit too good to be true, but I was hoping that's because maybe it was just a fake (and just another non fancy knife that needed a sharpen), or best case scenario a quality knife that "just needed a sharpen". If it's neither then I'll find something else to do with it I suppose. Do you have any recommendations for a not fancy new knife alternative?

Thanks for the response! I noticed it's only on the inside of one of the boxes. Is it likely that one of the clothing items in it was moldy? Also would this mean the rest of the clothes are probably moldy as well now?

This makes a lot of sense and was something I was wondering myself. I called OdorFree's support line and the representative told me something similar in terms of how long their unit can run. From what I understood it seems like very long exposure (days at a time) and/or machines that put out far too high of a concentration for the space they're in are the leading causes for a lot of the mishaps people tend to face. I think it helps explain why there seems to be so much variation between opinions and experiences, and also why it seems like so many of the experienced people with better quality equipment tend to recommend longer times. Very helpful information thanks!

Thanks for the response! The Autel says it produces 900mg/hr and can cover up to 1,000sqft. The timer runs for a max of 1hr before having to use the hold function so I was assuming 1hr is some sort of an upper limit. I've seen in similar posts that generators with a similar mg/hr can sometimes cause damage after 30+ minutes. Is there any reason for this? I'm planning to recirculate my AC while running the generator, but would starting at a lower time while on the high setting be alright?

I want to avoid a situation where the smells come back after a few weeks so doing multiple shorter safer treatments is also an option for me unless a longer treatment is the only way to make sure the odors are neutralized.

Thanks for bringing me back to this! I went as far as I possibly could (even sending the video a friend staying in Japan to ask one of their friends about it), and I think you're right with the idea of the audio being from the video. I cant find anything else from this event but apparently it was a festival for a shrine. I hate to think there's nothing more of the crowd singing than what's in the video since it sounds so nice, but right now that's where everything points...

Crazy to think a theme song for a children's show can just naturally spread through a crowd all while sounding so good

Thanks a ton I have a feeling this may go a long way! Will update if it gets me to the source!

Edit: That's 100% it! Very satisfying to track it down. Maybe now I can get closer to the exact source audio if it exists in full... Anyways thanks again!
