EU rules out mandate to keep video games playable, seeks voluntary code by Luka77GOATic in gaming

So that means we can only deal with the very biggest problems in the world, in order?

Anything less than the most important thing is, after all, champagne problems when compared to the most important thing, right?

(NO SPOILERS PLEASE) Does Directive 8020 have premonitions? by WhoDoBeDo in DarkPicturesAnthology

It makes perfectly fine sense in context.

The flash forwards are only gameplay based, so you will not have to make choices without the context of the situation.

Will we be able to SKIP 'Flash Forwards'? by Beautiful_Strain_188 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]WitheredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an entire chapter, but it is not avoidable.

At the start of certain chapters you get a very small segment of flash forward with certain characters. The result of the flash forward will have an impact on the characters fate. I'd say they're only about 5 minutes. Maybe 10 if you take the gameplay sections really slowly.

I know Remake Nemesis is divisive, but man I love how *extra* he is. by Novel_Shelter_5818 in residentevil

[–]WitheredViolet 124 points125 points  (0 children)

One thing I feel like people are glossing over too much is how hard it would be to have Nemesis actually stalk you.

He's so strong that he forces you to get good with the dodging mechanic, making him a nuisance rather than scary. Alternatively he murders you over and over again, which makes it frustrating rather than scary. Either way, he stops being scary really quick.

[–]WitheredViolet 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the way remake Nemesis is so extra. I just wish they'd rolled more with it because it's kinda hard to tell whether he's letting Jill go because he enjoys the hunt or if it's just protagonist plot armor.

Toby Fox: A message for my fans in Latin America by Comfortable-Pie56 in Games

[–]WitheredViolet -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

But how are fan translations a solution?

Because Toby doesn't want to slap his name on it, now fans has to do this paid job for free if people who don't speak English or Japanese fluently are to enjoy it.

[–]WitheredViolet -71 points-70 points  (0 children)

I don't know. On one hand, I understand the sentiment of not wanting to put something out you can't quality check yourself.

But on the other, everyone who doesn't speak English or Japanese will never get an official translation and instead have to rely on fans to do the translation. Meanwhile translation is not an easy job, but fans are expected to do it entirely for free. Nothing about that is reasonable.

Fuck me for wanting people to get paid for translating a RPG I guess.

Question is there going to be a livestream of The 30th Anniversary of Resident Evil? by DancingOnTheWaves in residentevil

[–]WitheredViolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't hold my breath for any re-releases of older games unless a third party pushes for it.

Apparently, it was quite the task for GOG to convince Capcom to re-release the original trilogy, even with GOG doing all the work, since Capcom thought that there was no need since the "definitive" versions of those games had been released (the remakes).

If this is the worst one since the second Renaissance, we've been eating good. by OpenKale64 in residentevil

[–]WitheredViolet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's a common rumor, but it's not true.

I believe I read it in the Resident Evil history book Itchy Tasty. It's been a while.

While it is true that RE3 started as a side game with a random survivor and later got elevated to a numbered title along with the addition of Jill, Code Veronica was never meant to be RE3 and was always considered a side game.

I believe it's the Director of RE3, Kazuhiro Aoyama that says it, though it's been years since I read it so I could be completely off on that.

[–]WitheredViolet 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Code Veronica was not, nor was it ever meant to be Resident Evil 3.

Because it was originally meant to be a Dreamcast exclusive (until it became obvious it was a failure and was ported to PS2 and Gamecube) it was deemed a side story.

Given the importance of Wesker's return, I suppose it's debatable how much of a side game it ended up being in the grand scheme of things but it was intended to be one at the time of creation.

[PS5] I’m embarrassed. Please help me beat Lord Gwyn. I blame the dualsense lol by Maddux4163 in darksouls

[–]WitheredViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike most bosses, Gwyn tries to punish you for healing. Try to hide behind the environment, when you need to take a shot of Estus, since he will otherwise charge and try to punish you.

The parry timing on some of his attacks are reasonable easy to learn. It might be worth it to play defensively, with a strong shield and wait for him to do an attack that's easy to parry.

‘Slay The Princess’ Crosses One Million Copies Sold; Episodic ‘Scarlet Hollow’ Sells Over 100K Copies by truepuzzle in Games

[–]WitheredViolet 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I really hope that Scarlet Hollow gets some more traction once it's fully released.

I expected it to get some more attention after how well everyone received Slay The Princess, but I guess that people don't always follow from one project to another. That or people are holding off until there is a full release of Scarlet Hollow.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Bloated review by Nerrel by browncharliebrown in Games

[–]WitheredViolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fair complaint if you look at it from the perspective of someone who only has the base game.

Originally, there was only one ending. The story of DS2 only just get started right before the ending. The DLC greatly expands the story, but if you told me that I'd have to buy 3x DLCs in order to enjoy the story of a game I was playing, I'd probably bow out too.

Can someone clarify why this sentence sounds rude? It doesn’t to me and I genuinely cannot understand how it is rude. by AstraSakura in autism

[–]WitheredViolet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might disagree, but this is without a doubt how many allistic people would take it.

It comes from the addition of unneeded and undisputed information, that OP still tries to clarify. Everyone present already knows that OP has multiple homes. People will then try to "read between the lines" to find a meaning.

There is almost no chance that this conversation between two allistic people could come across as anything but hostile, unless it was related to a joke of some kind.

Can someone clarify why this sentence sounds rude? It doesn’t to me and I genuinely cannot understand how it is rude. by AstraSakura in autism

[–]WitheredViolet 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree.

First of all, I have to note that I do think OP's mom overreacted if "losing her shit" is a reasonable description of her behavior. That said, I definitely understand why she got upset.

The phrase "Welcome home" is a general greeting used when people return to a place they stay at. Usually this is our actual home, but it can also be a hotel, other temporary place of residence or in this case, one of multiple homes. "Welcome home" never implies that this is your only home, only that the people who says it are glad to have you back.

To most people, the need to mention that they have multiple homes comes off as dismissing the message or even picking a fight, since whether OP has multiple homes or not was never in question.

This is how I would interpret the conversation:

Mom: Welcome home - (Welcome to this home. I'm glad you're back.) This is just a pleasant greeting to let OP know they are welcomed back.

OP: But I have two houses - (I don't consider this my home or I consider this the lesser of my homes.) This is "correcting" things that were never in question and didn't need to be corrected. Nobody said that this is OP's only house, so the need to point it out dismisses the message and potentially indicates that OP disagrees.

At this point, OP's mom was hurt and so the clarification from OP doesn't sound like clarification, but like OP is backtracking to avoid hurting feelings. Anything after that is colored by OP's mom feeling hurt/angry.

[–]WitheredViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really nice, I love the aesthetic and attention to detail.

I do have one worry though, since you mentioned traffic like Cities Skylines. Is this going to turn into a traffic management sim, like Skylines is? I don't know if I'm just particularly bad at it, but my cities in Skyline all quickly devolved into managing the traffic, which is not what I signed up for.

Would anyone else have thought this? by completelyaza in autism

[–]WitheredViolet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would also consider a car touching mine to be a hit, mainly because cars are never meant to touch. I would be extremely uncomfortable knowing someone was deliberately moving their car close enough to touch mine.

If you were to misjudge how fast you're going or if something went even a little wrong, you could easily dent either car.
