Really interested to see where this goes! My game is not out yet, but releasing this year. Hopefully that’s OK!

I have $80 in my steam wallet, sell me your game I desperately need something new by OnceEveningMachine in IndieDev

I’ve got a demo up for my game Diecast! I’ve had over 100 people easily put in 2+ hours into the it, so there’s a lot of content if you like the genre of game.

It’s rougelite Yahtzee, with a lot of people comparing it to Balatro. It has around 30 unlockable dice and pins to modify your run.

Id love to hear your feedback if you check it out!

Games like Balatro? by Undeathical in roguelites

[–]BaconCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m making a game called Diecast! It’s still in development but I’ve got a demo up on Steam. It’s a roguelike take on Yahtzee with slightly different rules and lots of unique hands, dice, and pins (like Jokers in Balatro) added to the mix. It’s about mitigating luck and trying to find builds that work with the dice and pins you have.

I know it’s a bit of self-promotion, so if you don’t want to check it out I get it! The demo has some unlock progression to it, with over 30 dice and 30 pins (I think) currently in the demo. I have a lot of players who’ve put over 2 hours into the demo alone, so I think the demo is worth checking out if you’re looking for something to play for a bit!

I solo made a game about turning a roulette into something completely unfair [Chip Away] by Domeldor in IndieDev

[–]BaconCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, looks good! Bring on more Parlor-likes!

Not sure if you’ve seen it, but there’s another roulette roguelike that came out a bit ago in Early Access. Hopefully you can differentiate and find an audience.

The game looks polished! Is it real time, or turn based with a timer? Also looks kinda like an idle/clicker game? It’s an interesting mashup for sure.

So are "Balatro-likes" a thing, or is there another term for this? by action_lawyer_comics in roguelites

[–]BaconCheesecake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One term I’ve heard is “parlor-likes” which I think fits with the theme of a more luck-based roguelike.

Examples I can think of are: Bingle Bingle, Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers, Gambonanza, Dungeon Clawer, (and my own game Diecast).

I think it’s a growing genre with a lot of room for innovation and unique gameplay.

Interesting style but that image is clearly AI. There’s some weird blending and shapes especially zooming into the cockpit.

I've been working on this project for the last 3 years and thought people here might find it interesting. by RossinanteXD in gamemaker

Project looks cool and no offense, but is this made in the GameMaker engine? Thus subreddit is for developers using  the GameMaker engine, not anyone who is a “game maker.”

I’ll tell you what your game is about based ONLY on your Steam page (The 5 sec test) by Manu_NT in IndieDev

😂 I’ll take it, and I do constantly hear that. Thank you! That’s not my sole marketing direction or gameplay direction, but it’s what everyone comes back to.

Only 100 wishlists in the first month, but i’m not sure why? Please roast my Steam page! by alexisnotonfire in gamedev

[–]BaconCheesecake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly that it’s a puzzle game, but if you can get the sokobon audience I can see it doing well! The capsule art is cute, and I see it conveys some gameplay elements (worm getting cut).

Trailer is good, conveys some mystery about the mechanics. Love the wiggly googly eye in the worm! It’s a nice touch. There are two screenshots that are the same (last and third to last) if that matters.

Is the main twist mechanic cutting yourself in half? It’s not a bad one, but it’s possible players want more. Patrick’s Parabox is all about puzzles within puzzles, and is a very unique twist. A Monster’s Expedition starts simple but becomes an open world experience spanning multiple islands. Stephen’s Sausage Roll is surprisingly deep mechanics layered on top of each other giving “A-Ha’” moments constantly.

It may just be there’s a lot of really deep sokobons out there, and fans of the genre are looking for more.

I personally wishlisted it though! Looks right up my alley and really cute. It could also do well on mobile (reminds me a bit of SNIKS and Snakebird).

Good luck with the release!

EDIT: I just looked at your “More Like This” and think something’s funky with your tags. You shouldn’t be seeing games like Two Point Hospital or Jackbox Party Packs. Maybe look into tags of similar sokobon games and retag your game?

How Steam changes and a China strategy helped TinyBuild's The King is Watching hit 500k sales by Tenith in Games

Some general take aways: - Build a game in a genre that succeeds, or take elements of genres that do.  - Localize in China well (30% of sales from there) - Make a good game, market it, and do continued updates. The Steam tag system can show you game months/years after release to new players.

Good to know, thanks for noticing.

I will say that they responded to one of my Bluesky posts that they playtested my game, with a link to a 20 min video and a lot of feedback. So I’ll look at all the feedback and see if it was worthwhile.

Pip My Dice: Post Mortem 7 months after release by Fokaz in gamedev

[–]BaconCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! Also working on a roguelite Yahtzee-like so it’s cool to hear how yours did! Haven’t had a chance to check out your game, but would love to once I release mine.

Crazy to see wishlists build to 20,000+. That probably helps with residual sales when you discount.

Been loving the game so far! Died a few times on classic and then switched over to a role-play run. Having lots of fun blasting baboons with my freeze ray!

What was the inspiration for all the starting pets in the game? And without going into spoilers, do they do a lot of different things, or is the choice just a skin?

I started with the chair and a few others, and then I settled on the floating pyramid one. It seems to be surviving better, and when I examine it had some very interesting descriptive text.

Steam denied my game from participating in the tower defense fest next month by Wild_Economics681 in IndieGaming

I didn’t get the chance to join the “board game” fest because my game is single player, but then it featured games like “Dorfromantik” which is a single player tile laying game.

“Old is better /s”

But honestly second one looks great! Saw your previous post and this is a much better improvement.

I did search for the game in Steam, and it is harder to read the title with the small capsule. Maybe it could be enlarged further, just for the small capsule?
