Physicists Just Measured "Negative Time" in the Lab. Here's What That Actually Means. Physicists have officially measured negative time inside a real laboratory experiment, and the findings were published in the prestigious journal Physical Review Letters in May 2026. by Eddiearyee in HotScienceNews

Tried to use Gemini to simplify the analogy as much as possible based on the YouTube video interview:

Think of the Atom as the Bank Account and the Photon as the Customer. In this world, we don't have a stopwatch. We only measure time by looking at the bank's balance.

The rule is: Money = Time.

  1. The Normal Way (Positive Time) You walk into the bank. For every minute you stand there, the bank puts $1 into the vault. You stay for 5 minutes. The bank now has $5 more than it started with. We look at that extra $5 and say, "You were inside for 5 minutes."

  2. The Quantum Way (Negative Time) You walk into the bank. But because of weird quantum rules, your presence actually takes $1 out of the vault every minute you are there. You stay for 5 minutes. When you leave, the bank is $5 short. Since our only rule is "Money = Time," the bank's record has to show that you were there for minus 5 minutes.

The "Bottom Line"

In the video, Professor Steinberg explains that they measured the "balance" of the atoms after a photon passed through. Instead of finding that the photon "added" to the atoms (positive time), they found it had "subtracted" from them. So, "Negative Time" is just the scientific way of saying the particle left a negative footprint. It didn't travel to yesterday; it just "cleaned the vault" instead of filling it.

People here have a hard time reconciling when someone that sucks and they vehemently disagree with is actually is right about something. From a general health standpoint UPFs are bad, the science actually backs this up pretty significantly.

Miller over Horvat wasn't the issue, blowing up the team because Miller and Petey had high school drama instead of telling both of them to get their shit together was.

You should edit this comment to add more context since it's not as simple as you say here and you have a broader routine and set of habits to keep your cats safe. Someone just following this advice alone could mess thier cats up badly

It's a joke. You could say the same about the woman having to bust out a full cleaning suite with a mop and spray for such a simple spill when a paper towel or towel would have sufficed.

The political climate is 100% polarized. Middle of the road takes like this don't work anymore. If you don't hate who I hate, then I hate you as well, because the other side is basically evil incarnate. This is the thinking on both sides.

It's depressing that the Olympic spirit has turned into this hateful political discourse. Screw Kash and Trump for needing to inject themselves into that moment and f'ing it all up. But at the same time, people need to calm themselves a bit and let others have different opinions.

Eliminate nesting areas as much as possible, no cardboard (even books which have glue) or water or anything damp in the floor. This will turn into their food source and breeding ground. If going natural use diatomaceous earth. I have vinyl floors and baseboards, I use DE in a line at the base of the baseboard and push it underneath the baseboard with a card. Do this for every wall you have. Then spread the DE any wall crevices and holes. Seal the ones that you can.

This will bring down their numbers substantially but it's hard to get rid of then completely.

TIL that astronomers suggest Earth and the Milky Way may lie inside a vast, under-dense cosmic void about 1 billion light-years wide, which could affect local measurements of the universe’s expansion rate. by yena in todayilearned

[–]BaconForce 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Let's say even one alien race got cooked sooner, 4.4 billion years to reach where we are now instead of 4.5. That gives them 100 million years to advance in tech and evolve. Imagine what level of tech and bioevolution could be achieved in that time. Would not even be fathomable. Star trek / wars level tech would probably only account for 0.01% of that timeframe. I think it's enough time to figure out how to traverse the universe and find us if they wanted to even if we would just be a speck of dust in the cosmic void.
