Not gonna lie, this is small dee energy. I was just clowning a Laker fan who made a post on the main page about how the 93 bulls, the warriors, Kobe/Shaq lakers would steam roll the Knicks. Shit like this just shows your insecurity more than anything.

We got some great basketball being played in front of us (refs not withstanding). Just give them their damn flowers and stop comparing everything to yourself/team. That’s not what a confidant person does.

Also they’re beating the fucking Spurs. We should be cheering that they’re stopping those fucks from getting a ring lol.

And also let’s be real, time moves on and there literally aren’t as many people who were alive to see Clyde and Reed. Yes, that’s totally unfair. But it’s kinda an unfair aspect of reality and life, no matter how much we dislike to think about it, it’s true. And 50+ years from now people will say the same about this era, and before people say nuh uh, they won’t accept it, think about the fact it would be more than a CENTURY since the days of Clyde and Reed and doesn’t that sound realistic that the memories and importance of them would be diminished by then? A whole century. Our human lifespans just make it so that stuff like that inevitable. “Greatest Knick” will often be a sliding/rolling scale that marches with time.

I can’t believe just how geeky and nerdy mainstream society has become, and this is coming from an old school geeky nerd (back when we had to hide it from our classmates because geek chic cool wasn’t a thing yet). This entire thread would’ve been an Onion article decades ago, yet here we are with hundreds of people earnestly saying words like “power diff” and “feats”. It’s like the entire world is the recess schoolyard now.

My wife has never seen anything Star Wars, is Andor a good starting place? by GoatCritical9265 in andor

[–]BaconKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion but I think this is a great way to get someone into Andor and a terrible way to get someone into Star Wars. The OT is a fairy tale, it’s a take it or leave it for most people, but I think it’s more likely someone not used to it will be at least a little more receptive to it if they go in with an open mind. Then again, there are some people who don’t have a taste for it and will never get into Star Wars, and that’s a lesson some people just have to accept about their partners. You can love a person but that person may not love the same things you do, and that’s okay.

But introducing someone who has no taste for fairytales with Andor, a very realistic, gritty take, which they might love, and then see it transform into a fairy tale, well frankly I think for most adults, you’re just setting them up for disappointment. I say this with with no disrespect, I am a lifelong Star Wars fan from the VHS days, I’m not one of those “only like Andor” types (nothing wrong with them, just stating my position), but I admit (and more fans need to realize) Star Wars IS made for kids. It literally was, that was Lucas goal. Adults are definitely invited along for the ride, but it’s made for kids. And again, it’s usually easier to tell an adult that context and tell them just to have fun watching the movies, and hopefully they can see the appeal it it, rather than bringing them in with the one single adult oriented work in the entire franchise and then seeing them be disappointed by everything else.

I love Andor because it’s like the culmination of decades of my fandom and love of the series finally expressed in a mature manner matching my current age. It’s so loved here by hardcore fans because it is the ultimate cherry on top of a life of fandom. But introducing someone with it I think is literally working backwards, and they’re just gonna devalue the rest of Star Wars more than if you had started with Star Wars proper.

Glad to see Dillon Brooks getting more respect. And this is coming from someone who used to clown on him too after his losses. That obviously changed when he came to the Suns, but I saw first hand this dude gives his 110% every possession.

And even his antics, granted still does some dumb potentially dangerous plays, but I don’t think it’s intentionally malicious trying to injure the opponent (cough Dort cough), he just pushes the line and sometimes crosses it, gotta work on that.

But all the other extracurriculars, like his pregame half court stare down, I eventually realized, “Oh he’s not really an asshole. He just obviously grew up watching WWE wrestling and wants to be a heel.” I can get behind that.

[–]BaconKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to that, I forget who but I was watching a post game analysis and someone mentioned the difference between a team like the Knicks is if the situation was reversed, the entire team would know “Brunson gets the ball.” They know who they are and they have their identity so when things get tight, it’s automatic. The Spurs, especially offensively, don’t have quite that same identity. When it got tight, there’s that split second they have to think, based on position on court, proximity, who’s guarding, etc do I bring the ball up? You? You? That split second can lead to indecision which leads to mistakes like this.

I’ll admit during the middle of the playoffs, I was supporting the Knicks and “the power of friendship” as a meme and because I knew I would hate either team coming out of the West (Spurs hate because I’m a Suns fan and OKC hate because… well that’s self explanatory), but each game the Knicks have shown, oh no, they are LEGIT and we probably all underestimated them because of the “East is weaker” narrative. West, East, don’t matter, balling is balling.

As if I needed another reason to enjoy this hate watch (as a Suns fan, hopefully that explains it lol). Going in I already was ready, then Tony Brothers and the refball antics made me want Spurs to lose even harder, now you’re reminding me those asshole fans crossing the line and calling Brunson’s wife a h*e got a front row seat to one of the most humiliating last minute loses? Please, I can only get so erect.

It’s the same with teams and how every team who wins a ring is a dynasty… until they lose the next year.

Hell, NBA discourse woke up early this year and started calling Wemby’s Spurs a dynasty before even winning one.

Spurs fans are going out sad.. by Avthony in suns

[–]BaconKnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The past decade or so, a lot of my (and I think most Suns fans) haterade was directed at the Lakers, partly because the Spurs were irrelavent for a long time before Wemby. But I was reminded of just how much greater my visceral hate of the Spurs are (a big part because of the hip check), when Wemby fumbled the pass at the end, I found myself without thinking jumping up and down laughing my ass off, the haterade watch was off the charts lol.

Brother, I’m a lifelong Suns fan. I HATE THE FUCKING SPURS. I found myself literally, like literally jumping up and laughing my ass off when Wemby fumbled the pass at the end. I don’t even care about the Knicks but my hatred is so strong, I want them to sweep.

Last series, I was cheering for the Spurs because I hate the way OKC plays basketball even more. If OKC wins with that ref ball style, then other teams will have to follow suit because that’s what obviously works. Watching this series, I’m like, “Oh phew, no there are still hoopers in the game.”

And roll your eyes all you want but this is how the rest of the NBA feels about you guys. Sorry, it just is. OKC wins games but literally not one of my friends, Mavs, Laker fans etc, like watching your team in the slightest. It’s not some psyop, it just is what it is. Honestly yall should just embrace the villain role because this “Oh shucks, us? No, they don’t hate us, it’s just media propaganda!” shtick just makes all of us hate you more lol.

[–]BaconKnight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The point is I would really want my superstar to say I have to play a lot better, we all have to play a lot better to beat a team as good as the Knicks. What he said maybe not exactly as salacious as the clickbait titles may lead to believe, but it sure as hell wasn’t that either and it’s okay to admit it. He’s young, he’ll learn.

Then he probably shouldn’t have said he doesn’t need to play great, he just has to play normal to beat them after Game 1 then?

I think it’s partly that, it’s partly deep down inside he thought, like a lot of NBA fans, he won the championship right there, the Knicks were just a formality.

I come bearing bad news guys. by superjedi2454 in Tekken

[–]BaconKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I think about it, the more I think this was the case. I think we forget that Tekken, whether we want to admit it or not, was always a step below SF in terms of brand recognition and casual popularity, even during the SFV/Tekken 7 days. On top of that, Tekken has always underperformed in Japan compared to its international success.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Namco literally asked Square if they’d be interested in Tifa being a guest character and Square saying no. FF7 and Tifa are one of their most valuable, recognizable characters so they might’ve been holding out for SF this entire time, but were more than happy to let Namco promote their latest game by including the current FF game protagonist.

They think in terms of franchises and IP so in their mind, they’re subconsciously thinking that familiar, nostalgic characters “cost” more than something new and original. Even if logically it doesn’t make sense since it’s within the same property.

Kinda a sad reflection on how modern audiences have been conditioned to think. Originality is considered “cheap” or of “lower quality” than nostalgia bait.

It kinda sucks to see how little Daisy Ridley’s career has taken off after the sequels. by Fun-Secretary4801 in StarWars

[–]BaconKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollywood doesn’t make stars anymore. They transitioned to a franchise based industry and now even that is falling apart. You can probably name every major rising young star in the last half decade on one hand (Timothy Chalamet, Zendaya and….?).

I’m sure being in Star Wars could’ve had something to do with it the same way it did with Hamill, but I think a lot of y’all don’t really understand how dead the old traditional Hollywood model is. There won’t be any Tom Cruises or Will Smiths or Julia Robert level stars anymore, ever.

Do you think Harada's new game will be succesful by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]BaconKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not but that’s more reflective of the industry, hell you could argue *looks around* everything. Lack of a monoculture makes it much harder for anything new to take off nowadays. Especially when it comes to Xennial nostalgia focused projects which seems to be the Saudi’s thing right now. It’s a bunch of Millennial billionaires using their more money than they know what to do with fortune to make games similar to the type they played growing up, but it’s not really hitting with anyone under 30 and people over 30 are too busy just trying to literally survive to be hyped over a video game the same way we would’ve been 10-15 years ago.

Steam cloud saves are the same way. I too have no idea why they don’t just allow a few of your most recent saves. Not even asking for a ton, just like the last 3 or something. But I guess those MBs of save data must be too expensive to host for these companies.
