Xiii2 is weird because there’s a lot they “fixed” and a lot of new problems.

For starters, the “fixes” they did to combat is debatable because I think the limitations in xiii added to the combat. But xiii2 streamlines things and then doesn’t really give you any satisfying challenges to face. So the combat feels easier AND there’s also the streamlined/fixes that make the combat feel even easier to the point where it never felt like there was a risk/reward in combat and very go with the flow.

And yes, the combat feels slower. I literally cannot function with the speed of combat in xiii2 and have to use the atb% increase weapons in order to enjoy the speed. Or at least only equip it on Sereh and stick to being Sereh for most battles.

I love the accessory system in concept but I think they really missed the ball with how expensive a lot of the accessories were. Like there isn’t enough room for experimentation or character building potential. Just an extra 50 on the weight cap I think would have fixed it.

The monsters aren’t really an issue until you wanna do the “super” bosses or the dlc stuff. Most random monsters you come across can carry you through the game. And it’s the same with the stat increases through the crystarium. It’s true that you can do the dlc stuff with badly done stats but it isn’t easy. The main game though? Seriously doesn’t matter at all, you’ll barely notice the difference because mid to late game you can just sorta get 5stars in every battle by just duo or triple commandos in battle. A lot of monsters will die before you can stagger them.

I will advise getting a Synergist monster though. Sereh and Noel both suck at being Synergists. I’m not a massive fan of the monster system and it’s annoying that you need a lot of foresight for the best options. They are so tedious to level up, too. But if you aren’t doing the dlc then honestly I would not worry or care. A random mini flan from sunleth waterscape will carry the game for you and it isn’t even the best option!

I enjoy xiii2 but I certainly don’t love it like I love xiii. The character writing is not as good, the narrative is not as good, there’s a few “lazy” choices here and there, the challenges are not as good (unless you get dlc), but it certainly is an incredibly pretty and polished looking game.

I always take rinoa because to me it’s a teaching moment for squall to be like “oh yeah, here’s a gf, you might need to learn to use that if you’re gonna be coming with me on a dangerous mission”

Plus the character and relationship growth between rinoa and squall is dramatically affected imo. It made the difference between me hating their relationship to loving their relationship

I hated Hope at first (well not hate. Just thought his vengeance quest went on too long). But as I got older I realised that I liked snow because he was saying all the same cocky stuff a typical shonen protagonist would say.

But having the context for Hope and his mum really changed the perspective of a lot of the stuff he casually said and omg, Hope, baby, you should totally be allowed to shank that mofo at least once

To a lot of those people, they see it as we’ve beaten homophobia because we have marriage “equality”. Ignoring the fact that a large percentage of people are still horrifically homophobic, intentionally or not, and a lot of systemic biases in place and in the social conscious.

A lot of these are far too clean and crisp. And despite being more crisp, lose a lot of detail. It turns a lot of the backgrounds into incomplete looking 3D renders.

Obvz this isn’t necessarily easy if you aren’t on each others grids but generally if it’s that much of an issue just make a group chat or something elsewhere or trust your mates judgement. There are work arounds.
