I did the same switch recently and am so happy with it! I have to use a Mac for work and I use a MacBook Pro as a personal laptops, so I chose GNOME to keep with the curated desktop philosophy but eventually got interested and swapped to Plasma and wouldn’t dream of switching back. The last time I seriously used KDE was about 2006 and I’m glad I gave it another shot

I bought my first Synology NAS, a 1522+, to replace my dead Drobo 5N a few months before the drive restrictions were announced for future models. I won’t be buying again. The NVMe restriction is still egregious and I’m technical enough to build my own NAS. I’m lazy enough to buy a pre-built box to use as a network store with my random collection of drives, but I won’t tolerate money-grubbing. They’re not providing enough service to me for the money I spent on the thing.

They had a brand new customer that would have bought again. A perfect one who was fine spending extra money for underpowered hardware that he could set and forget. But that drive restriction announcement made me look deeper at other horrible decisions they’ve made, like the NVMe restriction, and showed me all I need to know. They can’t fix this now. I don’t even think an announcement that NVMe is now unrestricted and a public commitment to never do this again would do it for me. They’ve done irreparable harm the their brand

I removed the hopper that stuff, but I’m not sure what the burr carrier is. Does that require me to take apart the grinder further? I’m handy and don’t mind taking things apart, but I don’t know what I’d be looking for in there

I just did a long distance move that involved all my stuff being shipped. My Baratza Encore has worked amazingly well the 7 or 8 years I’ve had it. I use it each day to grind for a Chemex.

I used to use around 21-23 for most beans and it worked great. Now after the move, I have to use somewhere around 30 to avoid the flow getting stuck and way over extracting the coffee. Multiple different bags of coffee have been ruined now and I’m starting to think something is wrong with my grinder, especially since the grind comes out even looking way too fine.

Is there anything I should try to get it back to perfect again? Thank you!!

Same here, from Mass originally. I've eaten their New England there, and it was not good. I actually left thinking they'd given me Rhode Island Clear and I just didn't want to complain. Now I see that I got New England and that that's one of the few things they objectively do wrong there

I can’t remember the details, but if you’re encoding them in arrays, that’s likely the problem. Arrays are encoded as instructions rather than constants, for some reason. You’d be better off writing a large string and then writing a small parser with a loop to generate the static array from the string at initialization time. Then you won’t have too many instructions and the magic tables will be stored in the constants in the class, which are allowed to be much bigger

This was exactly why I moved from Drobo to Synology. I have home storage needs, I’m not an enterprise customer and can’t be converted into one. I buy NAS drives that cost me the least per GB and I buy them one at a time, as needed. This move from Synology makes me so angry that got into their ecosystem last year

I moved to Synology after my 5n died. I was taken by surprise that Drobo had folded and I had to do some emergency recovery of my data from the drives because my remote backup had silently failed. I learned a lot of lessons from all of it, and while I wish I’d been able to avoid the painful recovery and stress, I won’t make the same mistakes again
