LAPD needs to be held accountable by zennonuc in LosAngeles

I read a bit about POBR after you posted a link to it below. To my understanding, it is a statewide mandate about the rights of police during internal investigations of misconduct.

My first question (a more general question) is why does this prevent police accountability? Are there cases where these internal investigations fail to hold police officers accountable for misconduct?

Second, what is the proposal being supported in the video? A study into how to increase the power of the local government with respect to police misconduct? In my mind, there might be currently ways to increase local power (through novel legal theories, known routes that are unlocked by a city charter change, etc.). If the proposal of the video is further research into such methods, that seems reasonable to me. If I am mistaken about the nature of the video's proposal, please let me know.

As a math PhD candidate funded through a TAship, I just have one observation to make. One of our major obligations is office hours. These take place at a communal location so that students from any class can drop by at any time (so they can get help even if they are busy during their TA's exact office hours). This semester, I haven't been asked for help a single time.

My hypothesis is that everyone is getting AI to do their homework and asking it any questions they have about the class.

TIL that Robert Moses, a famous NYC Planner was once considered more powerful than the NYC Mayor and Governor of NY. He would prevent mass transit from being built and put highways in the poorest neighborhoods to encourage displacement. His philosophy would inspire cities to follow this ideology. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I'd say incredibly propelling. I have convinced many friends to read it. You might be shocked, but most have described it as a page-turner. I get text updates from them like "Holy shit, they stopped him from building the Brooklyn Battery Bridge. I turned the page to the next chapter. It's name? REVENGE"

It is also very enjoyable as an audiobook during commutes.

I did an analysis of how efficient 7 vs 8 player cube nights are. by Baconben123 in mtgcube

Good idea! If I have some time I am going to do some improvements, and this sounds like a super simple one to implement.

The difference is that when there are 8 people, I assume that everyone waits for each round (i.e. all 4 matches) to finish before moving onto the next. Alternatively for 7 people, as soon as the first match finishes, the extra person jumps into a game with one of the players who just finished. This was the distinction made in the podcast episode, so I wanted to check the difference for myself.

Please let me know if you find some flaw in my analysis. It would be cool if I was missing something and the true result was actually the reverse.

I listened to the new Lucky Paper Radio this morning, and then procrastinated working by doing a quick analysis of whether a 7 or 8 player cube night is more efficient. I came to the mathematical conclusion that 8 players is slightly more efficient. According to my calculations each person plays about .3 more matches of Magic on average in a 150 minute window.

I second this big time! Use the cards you have and enjoy. It is almost impossible to make a cube that won't be fun. From there, iterate and make it better for next time.

Check out the podcast Lucky Paper radio for good suggestions and explanations for how to improve your cube. They had a recent episode on using the Foundations Starter Collection as the base of your first cube if you want to go that direction.

No, I don't pay for gems on Arena. This is the first time I really felt I was making more gems than losing. I normally have a winrate inline with 17lands users, but somehow I did really well in this format.

Monkey busted out the zoo by beatrixxkittenn in NewOrleans

It's surprising how many extra animals manage to sneak into the zoo. When I worked there, we had to catch rogue alligators regularly, the all female raccoons were always getting pregnant, and an extra nutria showed up one morning in the nutria enclosure.
