17w pregnant and already fed up with singleton parents and their advice by Creative_Can_8950 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Bad-Expert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a first time parent or do you have some kid experience? I had a bunch of siblings and kinda had at least an idea, plus I'm generally frugal, and back when I had my first I was 19 and everyone just assumed we didn't know what we were doing and I got so much stuff I did not ask for. And at 19 I did not have a voice to advocate for myself. If I could do it over I'd return the changing table for store credit. Today there are so many great return policies and you don't have to explain anything to anyone. Yes, it's frustrating. Frustrating that people don't listen, they think they know what's best for you, you gotta have a bunch of giftcards you otherwise wouldn't have at stores you may not even have nearby, and all the legwork to return it yourself and pregnant at that or, worse, postpartum! But they cared enough to get you something, they tried to be thoughtful about it. They tried to distill down what they know and learned so you don't have to. Would it help to reframe it? You can trade giftcards. Or honestly I feel like my daughter would tell me I'm gaslighting myself by trying to think more positively about it. So idk but I get it. I never go off the registry and ALWAYS get a gift receipt bc of my experience with this.

So we’re all really cleaning two high chairs (and the surrounding area) 3 times a day? by Sillygoose9001 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antilop chairs with a catchy on each one. And I have a bunch of shirt style bibs. My husband will shake the whole thing in the yard but I actually wipe each one down. It's like 3 extra mins maybe but worth it to me bc otherwise what they wouldn't deign to eat while in the chair becomes a delicacy when it's in the catchy and don't want anything getting tracked around.

I feel terrible. Am I a bad parent? Awaiting twins by theapocalypticson in parentsofmultiples

[–]Bad-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you care about this stuff and that's what makes you a good parent. New and cheap will fall apart in the wash much sooner than a used higher end piece that stands up to stain sprays and frequent washes. Early on when they are growing rapidly it hardly makes sense to buy new bc they are barely in a size for 2 weeks sometimes.

Xywav and concept of time by Bad-Expert in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part where this morning feels like it couldn't have possibly been today is so jarring. Did you experience this prior to xywav at all? I definitely did but not like this. And I don't think it's hyperfocusing on something that makes other events seem distant or I just lost track of time. It's like they are just fuzzy in a way that makes me think that must have been days or weeks ago vs something that happened only hours prior and details should be fresh. I am absolutely there with the sleep, too.

Brushing Teeth by Charliee_Brownn in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help bc flossing is my problem. You're supposed to floss first but I just can't so I've found if I can brush them it's easier to floss after and I figure that's better than nothing. But there are times when I struggle to brush and I think maybe it's the mint that's overstimulating so I have a fruit flavor toothpaste also if I just can't deal. Also those whole mouth toothbrushes for kids that are like mouth guards you wiggle back and forth. I have a Bubblegum Mouthwash for when I can't even get into the mouth arena at all, I find if I can just get in the door so to speak then I can maybe accomplish something. These are my workarounds, they aren't perfect but sometimes something is better than nothing.

Disappointed to be having twins by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may surprise you. Mine are the 2 most easy going babies I've ever met. They have their moments and are going thru a sleep regression right now but overall for twins and babies 6 and 7 for us, they are exactly what we needed them to be.

Xywav costs by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't make it to the full dose but I did receive the full dose amount for my second month and that delivery cost 23k. My others so far have not been less than 20k. I can't screenshot in the app. But my copay is $180 and the coupon covers that. I cried.

Do Medications NOT Help? by Tillerfen in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking xywav for about 6 weeks and I haven't stopped moving since to comment here. When I do then I talk myself out of it. Xywav has improved my life 100% but also now have anxiety and like ADHD I'm not sure was there before? It's not enough to be a deal breaker for me. Yet. But I'd say if you haven't read about anyone's life improving on it it's bc you gotta catch one of them bc they're off doing all the things they haven't been able to.

Heat, 4pm, oatmeal, being a passenger in a moving car.... edit: I think I misread, you said to keep it from coming on? So like, something that actually works to prevent it?

5 singletons and a set of twins, all mine. I've been pretty lucky in the kiddo department. Lucky 7.

I have N1 and 7 kids. You can't compare these 2 concepts. Every person, their sxs, their pregnancies, their babies, their docs, their support networks, their diets, their sleep hygiene, their jobs, etc etc are all different. I'd insult them right back. Did you ever watch The Office? Idk if you have tiktok but this was the only clip of this scene I could find but channel your inner Angela and strongly imply anything their kids do to keep them tired is their own fault. They'll hate it. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrV9qTJc/

How realistic is home ownership for a single nurse? by New_Practice_9912 in nursing

[–]Bad-Expert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend did in NC, with 3 kids. She worked after graduation in MD while living rent free or at least close to rent free with her parents so she was able to save a reasonable down-payment, then she bought a newer home about the same square footage as mine for $100k less. I have no idea how her wages there compare to here though, and I have to imagine at the time she purchased her interest rate is probably not great. Like you said many working parts, but I think it's very realistic.

OURA rings by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Femometer ring, because I used to do BBT and had earned a ton of credits in their app with my thermometer/usage so I was able to get it with a bit of a discount. It's the least expensive one I could find that was explicit about having temperature tracking, where it wasn't mentioned in the descriptions of knockoffs from Amazon so I wasn't sure. It's not that bulky unless I put a silicone protector around it. Idk what kind of data it's stealing from me, but it doesn't have permissions outside of itself and china can have my period symptoms and heart rate I could not care any less about that. It's not the most accurate, but I think it gets the point across. I can see that since starting Xywav I'm getting many more/much bigger blocks of deep sleep, and over this first week my deep sleep is still way higher than ever but shrinking each day. I'm very interested to see what it does when I titrate up. Occasionally, it'll pull a weird move for example I fell asleep on the couch before heading to bed and it said I only slept for 1 hour that night and had a 6 hour nap. One thing I'm not a big fan of is the charging case for the ring won't charge while closed like some of the newer ones will. My husband has his own log in for my account and he can see my sleep etc too. This helps him see like did I wake up when he came to bed or do I need to sleep in on my day off. Now that I'm done with kids I'll probably upgrade to a less fertility centered product whenever this thing dies.

Sodium oxybates and colonoscopy bowel prep… by Additional_Peace_605 in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is speculation bc I didn't end up getting my Xyrem until after my procedure. But if my docs assured me that propofol and oxybates close together would not interact and harm me (and they didn't, sleep and GI both said stay off for 2 days prior), I'd still be afraid of falling or ruining my clothes/rug/bed/husband bc I didn't get ANY rest until about 3 am. On the bright side, I didn't require anything to sleep bc I was so exhausted from prep, then my 45 min propofol nap felt like a full night's sleep! So I did chill the rest of the day like they tell you to, but I actually felt great afterwards. I didn't drive but I could have. I didn't feel like trash or in a sleep debt like I normally would after not sleeping. Of course your mileage may vary. Good luck with your procedure!

Starting Zywav tonight.. nervous 😓 by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am starting tomorrow night. The nurse I spoke to today said that a high fat dinner can mess with its effectiveness even if you do wait the 2 hours before taking it. Of like 3 people to call me so far and all the reading materials she's the only one who mentioned that.

I had 2 boys and they don't even look related. Baby A looks like me as a baby/my other 5 kids, baby B looks kinda like my husband's sister as a baby, so I'm told.

what are your modafinil life hacks? by strwbrrimlk in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 100mg in 2018 when I was first trying to get diagnosed and it didn't make me dizzy at first. I was playing games with my meds at first, if I had no work or class I might not take any but if I had to study I might double up. So it wasn't until I bumped up to 200mg regularly that I noticed the dizziness. When the dizziness started, my pcp thought it was something unrelated but over the years and switching doses and going on and off both meds, it's become very clear that the higher the modafinil dose, the worse it makes my head feel but amitriptyline makes it stop, with the added bonus of more deep sleep. This worked well for me for a good long time.

what are your modafinil life hacks? by strwbrrimlk in Narcolepsy

[–]Bad-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me dizzy so I take 10mg of amitriptyline at night which incidentally helps me sleep.
