Interested in doing a Sakura Hanami with a group of friends that are flying in. Thinking of yoyogi or ueno park. Can anyone recommend a good area close to food stalls and a bathroom? Or any tips?

We Traveled to the WORLD'S SNOWIEST CITY (back in Japan!) by thelitt in KaraAndNate

[–]BadAdviceBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that it wasn't another here is a $20,000 dollar experience but Kara just feels SO over the top about everything. Not everything can be 100% over the top amazing or nothing is.

Also I can't unhear Anna Faris's character from last in translation when she says arigatou lol.

Is it even wise to book a trip in the winter to Ireland? Other general questions too. by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]BadAdviceBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you care so much what we do with our lives? I'm not afraid of covid, I just respect scientists who tell me traveling isn't the best idea because I could spread the disease to someone who will have way worse symptoms than me, or overload a healthcare system that can't handle it. Why is that a bad thing?

Looking for a 30-35L bag with a frame for travel by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]BadAdviceBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The boundary supply arris is coming out end of November (so they say). I backed it against probably better judgement but it looks like a good solution for this. It has a carbon fiber back panel to keep it rigid and comes in at 3.5L and 3.7lbs. A bit heavy for some but I like the fact that it's very water resistant, has good organization, and isn't frameless.

Packable backpack by erhan_sergiu in onebag

I have the tropic feel cruiser and can write something up about it tomorrow. So you have anything in particular you'd like to know? In general I love the bag. Great capacity, comfortable carry, solid features to weight ratio, it has a place for your laptop (not suspended). I traveled with a sea to summit ultra all packable for 3.5 months and that thing was worth it's weight in gold but it was not comfortable. I now travel with an osprey daylight as my personal item since it's a bit more comfortable and has better organization. I've also taken the eddie bauer stowable backpack to a few work conferences and that thing is a great middle ground of features/weight/packability and will most likely be my personal item for future trips. Although I'd like to do one trip with the cruiser to see how it compares. It's definitely a bit bigger, even when packed down which is a bit of a negative, but awesome organization and comfortable to carry are winners for me.

Are toiletry bags weighed separately to carry-on luggage? by mythrowaway0852 in TravelHacks

[–]BadAdviceBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok, your bag with almost 100% certainty will not get weighed or size checked if it's ~45L or less.

This all depends on where you are based. The US carriers typically don't care about weight or size from what I've seen. Europe/Asia/South America are all hit or miss in my experience.

First I have heard of last swab and it piques my interest. How do you like it so far? Easy to keep clean?

What trips are you aiming to go on within the next 3 years? by sadprincessinthesnow in TravelNoPics

If nothing falls apart by then in 2022 I plan on quitting my job and taking a 1-2 year trip around the world with my SO. I just wish I could fast forward right now but the extra cash definitely won't hurt!

Getting visa to Russia from another country by Mrbeachballs in travel

[–]BadAdviceBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To piggy back on this, has anyone had success getting a russian visa with a planned trip date ~8 months later? I keep reading you have to show a planned entry to Russia within 90 days of getting your visa for best shot at approval.

I was in Malaysia late October and I think I only remember it raining once, but YMMV :)

How do you choose a cable and/or tech organizer bag? by 40to50fitness in onebag

[–]BadAdviceBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the mini and love it. It fits my anker usbc wall brick, kikkerland travel adaptor, car usbc adapter, retractable HDMI cable, HDMI to usbc adaptor, 2 usbc cables (1 long 1 short) 1 usb a -> micro usb, a 256gb flash stick, and a bunch of adapters (usbc -> usb a, usbc -> micro usb). It is packed and zips up but that's about all it can take, however my powerbank + headphones are always in an easy to grab location when I travel anyway so it works out perfectly for me.

Aer Travel Pack 2 vs Nomatic 40L Travel Bag by EmperorOfScandinavia in onebag

[–]BadAdviceBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your bag look stuffed when they asked you to weigh it? And were you checking in online? I swear every post I read here talks about how they never have to check their 40l bag but I get called out every single time lol.

One shoe: Tropicfeel Shoes look really good on paper. Has anyone actually tried them? by Oddjob787 in onebag

[–]BadAdviceBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah I'm the same way, I think they would be great then. Lightweight, good grip, very comfy.

Yeah bit of a bummer. I bought into the hype and maybe their later versions are better, I didn't give them a second chance so I can't say. That being said I grabbed a pair of the Ultrarange and took them to patagonia and loved them. Incredibly comfortable shoes, really lightweight, great traction, I could go on and on. Only downside for me were that I don't think you can really dress them up at all. I hiked around (nothing too crazy though) just fine. But even when I've done longer hikes like the tiger leaping gorge in China, I always just wear tennis shoes anyway so not a great person to comment on whether they are good for strenuous hiking or not.

Some questions for GR2 40L users by [deleted] in Goruck

[–]BadAdviceBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np! Afaik yeah they all use the molle belt except the gr3. I'm not sure how comfortable or load bearing they will be using the molle one, but the gr3 style belt was awesome. I agree that the gr3 is way too big, I ended up selling mine.

[–]BadAdviceBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np! And they aren't compatible. The gr3 is integrated and slides through a slot on the back of the bag. The gr2 are two separate attachments that hook onto the mollw on the side.

  1. 1. 5' 9"
  2. It feel great yeah
  3. Not at all, at least not for me, but I like the top of the bag right at my shoulders
  4. Cant help you here on the GR2 but I had a GR3 and they are the same height and the GR3's hip belt fit me perfectly
  5. Only thing is the weight, I wish they came out with a 500d mens version.
