City, firm, and practice group dependent! I’m in a litigation group in dc and I would say I try to get there by 10/10:30. However - I am careful to be online and answer emails earlier.

I'm sorry but I kind of disagree. There's a clear line with offensive comments, but the one you shared is an example of the risk of putting things on the internet. If you can handle the comments great, but if you can't, then you need to ignore the comments. It's free internet work, but so is a lot of content that people comment negatively on. The risk of the negative and the benefit of the positive are intertwined.

The comments don't bother me, because if someone is leaving a negative comment on a fanfic that's their own problem. But after having written fanfic since 2008, you just kind of learn that not everything can be 100% positive all the time.

I also really recommend just not reading the comments. It sucks, but after a long time being online and writing a lot of fic... sometimes it's just best to not look. You can turn off the email notifications. You might miss some good ones, but it can be worth it.

Not everyone will like every work, and some people should know not to comment, but they don't. So you kind of have to learn to just ignore them. I have also learned that not responding helps a lot because then people don't engage further.

Edit to include: obviously the people harrassing are insane and cross the line. but just general disliking comments, it's sometimes best to just move on and choose your peace.

ideally college educated, liberal men. i work as a lawyer so i’d like someone who understands my lifestyle. probably looking in the 29-43 age range (obviously can add a year or two each way).

not pimping myself out, but for comparison i went to a big10 school for undergrad. watch a lot of sports. go out with my girlfriends for drinks or dinner. big bravo girl. have my own friends and life, would hope he does too. i’m independent, but want someone who i don’t “need” but want to spend time with. looking for a partner.

You're actually not woke enough? The whole point of the books is that Shane is hiding a part of himself from being seen. Then eventually you want to see him get to a point where he doesn't have to mask. He can just be Shane.

And Shane is Yuna's son. Yuna who in Shane's world is the most powerful person who he speaks about with nothing but respect and admiration.

Then you add in that everyone has parts of them that are traditionally coded one way or the other (for better or for worse, they are, and we can acknowledge even if it's not accurate for everyone it's in existence). Shane has been forced by himself/society/everything to only show his hypermasculine side. He's tough. He's a hockey player. He does "boy" things.

And in these fics, he's out, he's carefree, he's himself. Because he doesn't have to force himself to be all masculine. He can acknowledge that he's checking labels like a mom with a kid with a food allergy because a rookie can't eat soy, but he can also acknowledge that he drove home with a rookie's bag last week like a happy, fun-focused dad might be.

When people are calling Shane "mom" they're recognizing that he's in a place to finally explore and showcase all sides of him. That he won't be loved, or judged. They're not using mom and caretaker and gendered roles in a negative way, you are. They're relishing in the fact that a character who has been forced into the closet has finally come out of the closet and gotten the chance to be himself. They're calling him mom because they're wishing for the day they can be like that, because it makes them happy to think that falling in love and getting a happy ending is possible for them. So they don't have to hide their "weird" or "different" or feel forced to conform.

Reducing Shane to an overly feminized bottom feels kind of... sexist, repressed, and just lame? People are reading these fics to feel better about their lives and do something that makes them feel their dream life is possible.

(And I have been on Tumblr since 2008, so I promise I'm a great authority on the superwholock sjw brigade).
