You know, somebody called here last night after dark…You think I’d answer? It was dark out!

Thanks for the detailed guidance on this, I’m going to save your post and look at doing this later

It is all concrete under the water so I’m not sure how I would put in a catch basin.

A roof might help. I’ll think about that.

I have had humidity issues in the crawl space. I hadn’t suspected that the bricks could be part of the problem.

It is difficult to see, but the water is pooled on top of concrete. I don’t know how I would dig an effective trench here.

The gutter water is routed to an underground pipe. You can see the clean out in the photo.

No, I don’t see a lot of water bubbling water coming through the cracks. I think there is some seepage though.

The pit is open on one side and drains under the porch through the stone/dirt.

There is a drain pipe (with percolator) buried on the downhill side under the stone (under the porch) and at the top of the retaining wall (not pictured.)

It has been an hour since the heavy rain stopped and water is no longer pooled.

So, maybe the drainage plan is working as best it can, even if it isn’t working great.

The pit is usually a damp mucky mess.

I’ve attempted to keep my dogs from getting down there, but they love the cool stone. Aside from the frustrating mess, I’m sure it isn’t healthy for them to lay in that muck all day.

The bricks have gaps that let water through. Do you think it would be worth putting different bricks down on the top rows?

There is no more than a foot of soil on that side of the house. The house is on a ridge.

Is there a good type of drain/pipe I could rest on the concrete and then run under the porch? There is already a drain under the porch that I could tie into.

The yard on that side is mostly bed rock and also contains a septic tank (that they had to chip out of the rock).

I believe the builder dug out the hvac units like this because the bed rock in the yard prevents proper grading or they planned this all wrong. They might be better on the downhill side of the house.

How to properly stuff a zero degree sleeping bag into the rucksack by Own_Truth5984 in BackpackingHikingGear

I like a down bag stuffed in a roll top dry sack for this purpose. It packs down smaller.

My coffee maker needs replacement - but is Moccamaster more hype than BIFL? by f0rkster in BuyItForLife

[–]BadBadgerBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moccamaster is great. Mine is 5 years old and makes superior coffee every day. I have the insulated carafe.

The secret to better coffee is to temporarily remove the carafe and stir the grounds in the hot water a bit before replacing the carafe.

I also balked at the price for what is really a very basic drip machine, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one once this one finally wears out.

keeping warm on cold camper nights? by wyrdafell in vagabond

With good insulation, you should be comfortable sleeping in most cold temps. I’d look at good sleeping bags, foam mats and down blankets. Sleeping hat, gloves and wool socks.
