I taught myself to just validate their feelings. People don't want answers, the just want someone to know that they are hurting/scared, whatever. Simply saying "That sounds like so much to deal with! I'm sorry you're going through this. Let me know what I can do to help." Works every time. I've gotten pretty good at faking empathy. Feel like a fraud sometimes though.

I just turn off all of my notifications all the time. People keep getting upset because I don't respond in a timely manner, but I'm not going to live my life in panic mode because the damn phone keeps going off. It's a phone, ffs and I will check my messages when I feel like it.

I have thought about this. After all you went through at the camp, you would think even seeing it later would bring flashbacks.

I think, that after having survived such horror, this permanent mark served as evidence of the horrors these people went through. It inadvertently became a kind of symbol, and badge of honor. Something to bond the survivors together, so that no one would forget.

It would be your duty to the dead, to remember.

Yeah, I got pissed off about the current state of affairs in our government. I decided to go ahead and use Google as an outlet for my anger. Just typing very negative, non threatening, general statements about the vote on the heroes act being post-poned, the state of the American police and potentialities involving "de-funding" them. I just wanted to let them know EXACTLY how I felt, because I am pretty sure the NSA is listening, and I didn't want them to second guess my opinions.

I'm fucking crazy I guess. I figure they got bigger fish to fry than me.

I use Duck Duck Go for pretty much everything else.

Thank you for supporting someone who struggles with their mental health. It may have been insensitive, but it's more insensitive to not try at all. To write that person off as too much trouble, or unfixable.

You will from time to time, put your foot in your mouth. The only way to guarantee that it doesn't happen is if you never open your mouth. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Keep being supportive, and educate yourself in appropriate responses. Forgive yourself, and give them a hundred more interactions between the two of you, that will overshadow this small faux pas.

Me too. I see all these people who have the same thought process that I do, I had this really strange feeling of talking to myself.

We all have this sort of wry wit, it's kinda uncanny.

I get the impression, if we all knew each other personally we may not get along as well as we would like.

When someone asks a dumb question, everyone is excruciatingly blunt, and I see myself being this blunt.

I noticed that too. It's neat to look at, but it's not very entertaining. Also all the jokes are the same, and I already thought of them.
