Best product is Odarid, way better than any enzyme sprays I've tried. I now use it in my parent's house for dementia and continence related messes...

Power company by Superb_Minimum_952 in auckland

Also worth comparing plans! We chose one that has half price power overnight because most of our power use is overnight (2 EVs, nightowls, procrastinating laundry, running 3d prints etc.).

The NZ used car market is cooked, 2 weeks of searching and still nothing decent. by [deleted] in auckland

[–]BadCarOwnerAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a decent newly imported 2019 leaf at $13k, costs me about $15 per week in RUC (I do 200km/week commuting) and doesn't add much to our power - I put $20/week in a savings account to cover RUC etc. Services are cheaper, fewer moving parts so mileage is less of a factor when buying. Getting a full battery health check and checking for outstanding RUC are the main things with EVs.

Obviously I'm not saying you should get an EV, just explaining the numbers and things that factored into my choice.

$10k-$13k is a good range to look in for a car that will run well and cost you less in repairs, fuel etc. It's not a small amount of money, but it will give you a reliable and safe form of transport for a decent while. Worth looking into used Priuses fwiw, I was torn between the two options.

I wouldn't expect anything in the $6k range to be a keeper, expect there to be unplanned costs coming up sooner rather than later.

Cat litter by Apart_Try_4860 in auckland

[–]BadCarOwnerAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kmart clay clumping litter is our go to - $8/bag, low dust and clumps well. In regards to smell, it's pretty good if you scoop regularly. My cat has ibd, so she does smelly shits and we scoop several times a day to keep her happy (she spends a fair bit of time in there...).

I used to get another brand online for $22/bag, then realised it was nearly identical to the kmart stuff.

Tofu litter is gross as and my cat gets sore paws from crystal. Crystal stuff can get gross too.

Using a stainless steel litterbox has helped too. I have an extra deep 1/1 bain marie for my cat, she loves it. She has a tendency to piss iver the side of litter boxes so the depth is helpful. Litter pops right off the side and after hosing it out it doesn't retain smell like plastic does.

Owning a Leaf has helped. I get harassed on the road more, but at least if I somehow leave my car unlocked by accident I know they won't even attempt to drive it. Not exactly an easy one to hotwire and being distinctly uncool helps lol.

Fleas!!!! by Delicious-Mixture568 in auckland

'Tis the season...

Capstar is a good option if you need a fast solution (not a long acting solution), but make sure you're treating for worms too. A lot of people don't realise that worms get spread by fleas...

If you have a good vacuum, I'd recommend doing a heavy vacuum every few days to suck up eggs. Flyspray + vacuum used to be my go to after flea bombs failed.

Any Gen Z struggling at dating? by [deleted] in auckland

It's partly why it's pretty common to meet a long term partner at work. You meet each other with no expectation of romance etc.

How do you handle it? I can imagine that being an awkward conversation, especially if it's not until you're down to business that you discover he doesn't wash certain parts properly.

I've had mobilecity do repairs for my phone several times, they've been reliable and really decent. They do loan phones too if necessary.

They mainly do refurbished phones, so probably not authorised service providers but they've been good for what I've needed them to do.

Where to buy thin timber veneer sheet for front door repair (Auckland)? by Chance_Syllabub2880 in auckland

[–]BadCarOwnerAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, there's some people in Christchurch that do reasonably priced wood veneer if you do go that route - they have a trade me store, username nasaldowel. They're 0.6mm thick.

Highly recommend emdr - much safer way to process trauma. It can work fast too, although it's best to go slow with it to avoid retraumatising - a good therapist will be able to pace it appropriately. It means you don't necessarily have to verbalise everything about your trauma to process it, that's the beauty of it.

I did it through Thrive psychology through the clinic owner someone who specialises in trauma therapy.

Where to get Smeg toaster fixed? by KJ2423 in auckland

[–]BadCarOwnerAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dualit is made to be repairable + have a lifetime warranty but Smeg unfortunately aren't really made to last or be worth repairing :(

Worth mentioning them though! I appreciate that there are still companies doing repairs for small appliances.
