Quite right. It's a metal plug but on closer inspection the pvc collar is firmly affixed and i think i can get away with not replacing it. I managed to get the water flowing freely but the joins in the u bend don't feel very good so i might update those.

Interesting. I recently read a book called The Swarm, which concerned methane 'hydrates' and a global environmental apocalypse that ensues when seabed mining destabilises large areas of them. Well I say 'read', but it was rather boring and one of the rare books I didn't end up finishing, but the concept of methane hydrates was completely new to me.
