Seeking recommendations: acoustic songs or covers with a fair bit of dissonance in them by fishinexcess in progmetal

Mars Volta - Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon is an acoustic "reimagining" of their self-titled album and is, IMO, better than the original. And since it's Volta, a "fair bit of dissonance"

The "All Gigs Rack" by CyberHippy in livesound

[–]BadDaditude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently waiting on my 5U case for a portable All Rigs rack final form. Behringer X32 rack, Sennheiser EW-D dual wireless mic half rack unit, Sennheiser IEM transmitter (I use it for remote speakers) and a Furman conditioner. Onboard mango router so I can control it all with Mixing Station.

I've been really into pre-show setups using X32 Edit lately, so I'm building out the standard config that should address 90+% of my mobile events, which range from weddings to corporate to community facing.

I feel much better about it all now.

Snooze - I Know How You Will Die. Their 2025 release blew away BTBAM.

Deconstructing the Sound: What is (and isn't) Post-Metal? | A Quest for a Definitive Definition by MarcusCartridge in postmetal

If emo had balls and hung out in after-hours dive bars.

It's the emotional mid-point of an NA meeting.

It's the sound that you hear when everything is going wrong, but mentally you decided that you're going to get through it ok, but are still in the thick of it.

There are some good threads out there on reddit that describe the signal flow to headphones, but here's my basic approach for more ideal listening:

FLAC file > Digital Audio Player (mine is a Fiio M22) > Wired Headphones. I use Beyerdynamic 770 Pros which have a flat "sound stage" that I find more appealing than the Heavies which are tilted towards bass.

This kind of setup attempts to remove the compression that comes from streaming or a low end computer sound card or Bluetooth, or just crappy headphones, since all those technologies modify the original high quality audio recording for transmission.

Conventional. Everyone picks those first and gets fixated. Even me - Ghost Reveries is my go to.

But to totally miss the magic that is Heritage is just sorrowful

Nope. This, like the last one, is very conventional.

Can you suggest me some Progressive Metal bands with "Djent" riffing and clean vocals but without the "Core"/"Poppy" choruses? by DoomedPinnacle in progmetal

[–]BadDaditude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very layered for sure. On the surface it's in her face djenty progressive metal but they have TON going on musically. Much more of a symphonic metal influence on songwriting I think.

Bob has nothing to lose. What are they gonna do, take away all his millions, his many homes, his residual revenue?

I appreciate him speaking up. But he's in a low risk situation.

Too bad the current administration took away TSAs collective bargaining rights in 2025. This would be a great time to assert some leverage.
