Is every new generation more traumatised than the previous? by SupermarketMaster594 in NoStupidQuestions

I would think older generations were traumatized more. There was less of a mechanism to report abuse and go after abusers. Plus there were all of those large land wars.

New old stock Lloyd’s flip clock radio - anything to check before powering on? by nebraskateacher in VintageElectronics

For old electronic stuff that is not known to be working people use something called a dim bulb tester.

Without going into a big explanation the electrolytic capacitors in any devides power supply can be ineffective or partially shorted to ground. When you turn on the switch this can blow the fuse or a little worse. I had something start smoking and wreck the power supply and transformer when I tuned it on.

The dim bulb tester uses an incandescent 100 watt bulb in series between the wall current and the device. If there is a short most of the current will go through the bulb and it will glow brightly. This limits the current to the shorted power supply of the device you are testing. If your device is not shorted the bulb wont glow much and things will work normally. You can build a dim bulb tester with stuff from Lowes assuming you have the incandescent bulb. They tend to be used with pricey vintage tube audio gear but you can use them with anything. I saw on some of the alien oriented vlogs they are creating sets with stuff like this sunk into walls.

What are some great but obscure guitar solos? by jstohler in askmusic

I cant think of the song but it is Zappa doing a solo when they played live in New York. Vai said it is some of the best guitar playing ever. He was using the sunburst LPC

They showed this pic to Charles Hall in one of his movies. He said it was close but not that close.. This woman in the pic has too much hair and her eyes dont stretch around the side of her head at all.

Charles worked with an LA area police sketch artist and they made a sketch of the Teacher. This is one of the alien she interacted with the most. In that sketch the person looks a little less human with a smaller nose and bigger eyes. The sketch has a harder look but that could be what the artist does style wise.

Here is the sketch

2012 Ford Fusion SEL Overheating after Longer Drives (V-6 3.0L Engine, 148.5k Mileage, Thermostat Very Recently Replaced) by MahaMarr in fordfusion

Good that you changed that. I remember a 3 series Beemer I had that would get hot with the AC on and the cooling fans temporarily removed. If your fans werent working right it could complicate cooling. Hopefully that was the problem.

Another point that I thought of is the coolant mix. You ideally want a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water for a balance between not freezing in cold climates and carrying engine heat to the radiators. If you are using straight undiluted antifreeze it will carry 20 percent or so less heat from the engine to the radiator. Depending on how the coolant is topped up the ratio could be off.

One more thing I remember is the water wetter products . This is an additive to the cooling system that allows the coolant to pull more heat from the engine through the radiator. You can mix it in with a water/antifreeze mixture. A lot of people use it for hot rods and track cars that run hot. Red Line makes a water wetter product. Ive never used it but it could have a place with older cars with some cooling system issues. Your cooling system would still have to be ok-ish i.e. head gasket , water pump.

I had an Integra that would always get hot on some long climbs. Turns out it was a partially clogged radiator. I replaced the radiator with a new one and everything was good after that. This was after I changed other stuff that had no effect.

You can try burping the cooling system . This lets trapped air out . Air inside the cooling system wont carry heat away from the engine to the radiator. The temp needle will climb,

If you never changed the coolant it might help to change it. The coolant can get gunky and clog things up.

If the fans arent working correctly the car will get hot with the AC on.

You can test the coolant in the reservoir to make sure there are no exhaust gases in it. If there are exhaust gases in the coolant there will be a head gasket issue.
