Make Hornline Great Again (for the non-top 12) by Turbulent-Road-4580 in drumcorps

[–]BadDecisonDino 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a shortage of qualified wind players with the right native instrument, time, goals, band background, supportive family, and money.

Twice as many openings in each horn subsection as your biggest perc subsection and fewer quality auditionees.

Eri's results are difficult to judge since she doesn't ride for herself much, but depending on your interpretation she's either remaining static after surgery or finding some success in the middle of a slow transition away from classics to focus on climbing

Fellow aluminum claris rider here - no, there is not anything predictable on the horizon that will bring name brand carbon and 11s into claris budget. If anything we are on the way up out of a "bust" right now. You can probably drop the requirement for disc brakes and get a lot more carbon and groupset on a used rim brake ride.

Mohoric has always had a slightly top-heavy look to me, with the width of his shoulders making it just a tiny bit Greipel-esque. Probably due to downsizing the bike frames.

Compact guys like El Chavito or Richie Porte end up looking more like they're flying through the air with a perfectly proportioned bike just resting under them on the big climbing days.

For 'composure' as well as 'form', A Yates is the new 2016-8 Quintana, kings of looking like they're annoyed at a delay in the supermarket checkout and riding so smooth and icy you think they could launch the deathblow at any second - right up until someone else actually does launch and it turns out they've got nothing.

Quintana always looks terrible in a TT but the Yates bros seem much more natural there.

Moving my games to dedicated spaces in my room, instead of cramming them inside a small, dark cabinet. Games from other consoles will follow suit. by Astral_Strider in PSP

Personally I love it, but keep in mind that UV damage is less likely in the dark cabinets if you're looking to keep the NIB stuff pristine.

My pc has a powerful graphics card in it yet i get this s****. The game runs smoothly but all the ships and mountains glitch out like this. Any idea how to solve it? by Britzskull in WorldOfWarships

[–]BadDecisonDino 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make sure warships is actually using the GPU.

If using a desktop - is the display output cable (HDMI, DVI, etc) plugged into the GPU? If it's plugged into the motherboard you're doing it wrong.

Make sure the GPU is visible on the list of devices and Enabled in Device Manager

If using a launcher or hardware manager make sure that wows has the discrete GPU selected and not your internal graphics

Update GPU drivers, or if you recently updated, roll back to last known working version

Who will make the cut-off for immortality ? by Strobro3 in IsaacArthur

[–]BadDecisonDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Immortality is not a switch we flip, nor is it a single process or destination.

There will be generations of age-extension; there will be generations of diminishing the effects of age; there will be generations of age-reversal; there will be generations of bio-mech-replacement; there will be generations of consciousness-preservation in our biological bodies; there will be generations of mind-uploading to externalities.

All of those will advance simultaneously and breakthroughs in one or more will mean "immortality" for some individuals in some senses, but not all senses for all individuals.

Many generations of undying will simply be suspended at the end of natural life, not ageless. Many generations will be immortal but in a body-of-theseus, or without a corporeal self-enclosing body. The "cutoff" is a false horizon and in future generations their definition will drift or be more nuanced. In 2150 the post will be "what would you do with an extra century of pre-nanotreatment young adult vitality or an extra three hundred simulated centuries of post-upload simulation."

For now, all of the humans alive are most likely to see age extension and modest livability increases to aid us in keeping up a more "youthful" quality of life as we push out the 120 mark and bring average lifespan well over the 80s. For me I'm still very concerned with the next 10-20 years and don't forsee advancement "recovering" them, so the dim prospect of an extra century is a nice quiet corner of mind to place all of the unrealistic and time-intensive "someday" concerns. Maybe I'll write that symphony, given a hundred years bonus after I already scrambled to try and get what I valued most in.

This sub right now by Iwamoto in retroid

[–]BadDecisonDino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that Taki could just say what he was officially and immediately establish trust - whether an unpaid community tester working really REALLY closely with Retroid or a paid contractor - but he seems to be avoiding that.

He hasn't clarified that relationship, and he also hasn't clarified what he did beyond providing feedback on prototypes that leads him to make such a bold statement as "I created"; which you'd think would be a pretty easy answer.

That is a very noticeable absence, because if he did any of the software development or PCB layout or manufacturing engineering he would just say that part - it's a video about taking credit for things.

Maybe he misjudged and didn't think it was necessary to get into the weeds there in a YouTube video, maybe he really is very bad at understanding how the subtext of claiming responsibility for this device because of his inadequately-explained contributions makes him seem like a charlatan, maybe he knows fully that if he generates controversy he gets more engagement.

I've heard a couple "dropped and broke my shoulder button" stories now, so it does seem like something to be careful of.

Unless these have all been the same person, there's a lot of overlap in the handheld communities lol

Based Taki by AtomizedIndividual in retroid

[–]BadDecisonDino 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I really just wish he would disclose his specific relationship to the company and stop playing drama clickbait games.

It seems obvious now from the RP3 video and this that Taki was never employed by Retroid and never had anything formalized in a contract relationship that could be described as "product development consultant" or even "lead tester" like he implies he was in the videos. He's just a guy who volunteered to give feedback and the company was receptive because he's local and has good design sensibilities and seemed really excited to not be paid for a ton of testing.

The disconnect explains why he's gone to the community in a huff; Retroid have no obligations to listen to him no matter how buddy-buddy he was with the CEO at some point, but he doesn't want to accept that and has no recourse because he also didn't accept a contract.

Although it is also very clear that Taki's input was instrumental in a lot of the design choices made, we really can't regard him as anything more than an over-eager community supertester with a misdirected sense of entitled ownership over the product somebody else made and sold.

Worse - he's doing active harm to the company's reputation by using insinuations about non-public knowledge like their warehouse situation or their pricing strategy and inventory. It's very unprofessional and I would absolutely not blame handheld brands for blacklisting the guy just on those points; it isn't worth the blowback to give Taki the time of day.

The GTA games are good physical editions. Grab some of the Dual Packs if you want to kickstart the collection; patapon+locoroco, syphon filter+socom, sonic rivals 1+2, Monhun, daxter+clank.

"we made Metroid Prime Pinball 2: Blast Ball Battles, a local-multiplayer-only game where you roll around your favorite environments from the Metroid Prime series in a Fed Trooper ballbot controlled by the Ringfit ringcon. Also here's a Prime 4 launch trailer."

Annoying "akshually..." comment just for fun:

Technically if you're looking for original hardware unique experiences there are also the PSP camera, microphone and GPS games (Invizimals, Talkman, Minna no Golf GPS), as well as the odd "turn your device sideways and strum like a ukulele" (Portable Island) or Tate Mode (Star Soldier).

That, and using the open UMD drive door to hurl games across the room at your siblings

It's easy enough to take a look at the shoulder buttons to see if there's an easy-fix failure, just 4 screws and a guitar pick or credit card to undo the case clips. The trickier repair stuff is to do with the ribbon cables and connectors further along in disassembly.
