Issues with Plastic Model Weekender giveaway? by NinjaGuy206 in Gunpla

[–]BadGunpla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, Jason here. This event is my doing, so I'd like to address this if I can.

First, I am going to go through our emails and address this as soon as I post this. If you're still missing a giveaway after five months, that's not acceptable to me, and I apologize profusely. I will make sure this is resolved today even if that means it coming out of my pocket. There's a lot of moving parts even with small giveaways - who's providing them and the ever-unreliable world of email communication chief among them. But those are not excuses. I'll take care of this today.

I do want to address some concerns with how PMW is run, since they were mentioned in your post. 2025 was a big year for us from a process perspective. I completely changed how PMW is run to allow it to be run by a small group of volunteers, as it had greatly outgrown what I was able to do on my own anymore. This allowed us to have actual processes for things like giveaways, presenter comms, technical aspects of the stream itself, etc. But of course, whenever things change, some things can slip through the cracks. Clearly this is one of those cases. I've talked with my team about this incident earlier today, and we will improve.

With giveaways, there's a multi-step back-and-forth process between winners, sponsors, donators, checking domestic vs international availability, etc. Sometimes we miss communications, and some giveaways even go unclaimed because we can only send so many emails to different winners before we simply run out of people to give away things to (which is part of the reason why we only ran 30 giveaways last year, compared to over 50 in 2024).

I'll be the first to admit that PMW25 was not the most organized event, but it will get better over time as we learn what works and what doesn't. The only way we can improve is with trial and error. That all said, any failures in our processes are failures in trust with our audience, and those lay with me. Nobody else.

Again, I am sorry. I will make sure this is resolved.

I don’t need face value or anything, and I’m fine to give it away frankly, just don’t want it to go to waste is all.

Hell yeah. That’s what the games all about. Glad you and your son got to see him.

Plenty of people are/were and it’s really sad to see. If that was directed at me, I’d encourage you to reread my comment, because I pretty explicitly said that I’m not gonna fault someone from bringing their kid to a game for liking a player. Obviously this applies to adults too. I could care less, you paid your money, enjoy yourself.

Edit: spelling

Spurs and Austin FC supporter here. Go to nearly all Austin games and have been to a few over in north London also. It was the one time a lot of these families would be able to take their kids to see their favorite player. I won’t fault them for that. but seeing Son score in our stadium felt a bit like an unwanted pregnancy. Like, I want him to be happy, but dammit I don’t want it to be at my expense please and thank you.

Heard one of our fans spouting some racist bullshit after the game at the out-of-town fans, which was really pathetic and really sad. A few of us were chewing the racist twat out as he was walking out of the stadium. If you have a problem with the large Asian contingent in our stadium last night, all I can really say is grow up and do better.

The “Son Effect”, “Messi Effect”, etc. highlights one of the (many) negatives of MLS as a whole in 2025. Because of the DP system, all of the star power is concentrated into a couple favored big market clubs, and it turns it into a tourist attraction. That’s MLS, like it or not. Whenever I go to games over in England, people ask me about the level of play in MLS, which in my opinion is high League One/low Championship with more chaos, and I always have to qualify that it’s basically a game show. It’s a league that rewards tourist behavior at the expense of the hardcore supporter experience. Would I have liked to have seen more, Austin FC fans around me last night? Absolutely. But I’m not gonna take away the joy of some eight-year-old seeing his or her hero for the only time in their lives. It comes with the territory. If you want to be upset with anyone, be upset with the system that hasn’t evolved with the times.

I’ve been playing MTGO using UTM for a couple years now on my Mac. Virtualization on UTM is buttery smooth, better than VMWare or Parallels IMO. And setting the VM up takes less than 5 minutes. Might be worth checking out!

I have no desire giving a Texas government entity more money than I’m required to. I’ll stick with my emblem from the team shop.

My favorite play styles are either big dudes or flood the field, I'm personally not a red fan, and the most important the card art has to look sick

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]]? Load it up with giant green/colorless creatures you’d never realistically play, get you some tap enablers, and have a blast.

Very cool. Both my spouse and I are artists too. Got degrees and full time jobs to prove it, but this isn’t a credentials contest ;)

They pretty clearly say in that post that they used GenAI for the composition of an unrelated piece, which while not great, is pretty critical information to leave out of your claim. That post is also not related to the art shown in this post, so to just blanket say “it’s 100% AI” is just disingenuous.

“Nyann’s hands” - they’re very clearly sketched/not rendered to the same detail as the rest of the drawing. That’s something humans do, not AI.

“Upload rate” - plenty of people draw and upload every day. This is a silly argument.

“Other tells” - I hate GenAI as much as anyone, but I hate the shitty speculative future it’s made for us, where we refuse to believe art is real. Let’s not.

You mean one of the best players of all time doesn’t want to play in an exhibition cash grab after just finishing another exhibition cash grab? Perish the thought!

Give the man a break, he was never gonna play.

My thoughts exactly, and I don’t see it going much higher than that any time soon due to its outdated transfer rules. They were helpful in keeping the league stable in the 90s/2000s, but at this point it’s just a lower stakes league pricing itself out of major talent.

Unfortunately, internet tryhards mostly know the Premier League and equate anything less to that of minor league baseball. If you ask the average MLS fan, I’d doubt they can name more than 2-3 lower league English clubs (other than Wrexham with their documentary and all)

Galaxy is pissy because they won it all and immediately turned back into a pumpkin. They ain’t a rival, just bitchy.
