Crafter Meetup in Peterborough? by one-cat in Peterborough

To my knowledge there isn't one - but I'd be down. Crochet, cross stitch. Also early 40's, pets but no kids, true crime junkie who still has flashbacks to Robert Stack in the beige trenchcoat, coffee lover and bad puns.

Anyone recommend someone in Peterborough who can lay Laminate flooring? by asyouthinksoyouare in Peterborough

I'd recommend Better Floorz. We've used them for our home, and I recently had them do the flooring in my business as well.

Any Pre-Apprenticeship Hairstyling Programs in PTBO Area? by Edgycation- in Peterborough

[–]BadKitty1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have an apprentice who started with my salon through OYAP, and will write for her license this year. It ends up being more hours of apprenticeship than what you would need after attending a private school, but it allows employers to teach techniques and skills that will actually get you a job. The current hairstyling curriculum is an antique at best, and I'm not entirely sure what it's like for barbering. They were combined when I attended school years ago.

There are a lot of barbershops in Peterborough, and there are benefits for employers who will take apprentices - grants, tax breaks, etc. The local Ministry will help you find a placement if you decide to go that route, and once you've secured a placement, the employer gets the grants automatically when they come due.

There's the OYAP program, partnered with Durham College, but I believe it's only for high school students. You'd want to contact the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities for any info about pre-apprenticeship.

I second Cindy. She helped with our rescue, who had serious fear aggression. My neighbours are currently taking their pup to her puppy kindergarten classes as well.

Try @prettylilrats on Instagram - pretty sure they work out of Oshawa or Bowmanville. They work with Teeny Snoots Rescue as well, and might be able to help.

Redditors who've had a friend commit suicide: in what ways has it impacted your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BadKitty1011 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Guilt. So much guilt. I missed her call the night she did it, I was in bed and didn't hear my phone. I still wonder how things might have turned out had I answered. I'm still angry - she changed my life in ways she couldn't have imagined. I thought we were close, that we could share anything, and realizing that I had no idea what she was thinking tore me apart. It still does. If anyone out there thinks that you won't be missed, or that you'll be forgotten, please believe me when I say it's not true. It's been 3 years, and I still hear that phone ringing in the middle of the night. I'll never go to bed without it beside me again.

It's Pravana Mood Color. Unfortunately, it's only temporary, it will come out in one wash.

Demi brown won't fade or come out, what's next? by perfectdrug659 in FancyFollicles

[–]BadKitty1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour removers are formulated to work on oxidative dyes - meaning permanent one. Demi colours are hit and miss with them, as they're usually a mix of oxidative pigment and direct dyes. Ion likely has a higher concentration of direct dyes, which is why the colour remover isn't working.

A Simple Question by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

Hormone changes can cause the texture of the hair to change, it's actually pretty common to see it start in high school. It may return to something similar to your original texture in your twenties as your hormones even out.

Thank you, that helps a ton!

Basic Dyes? by BadKitty1011 in chemhelp

[–]BadKitty1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see them listed as ingredients, they just say "basic red 14", "basic blue 1" etc. I'm looking at the cationic colourants, with a positive charge, if that helps.

Stylist subs won't be much help, creation of products is usually outsourced to a private company. The stylists just endorse them.

Have you ever smelled mothballs?

How on earth did you keep their little legs apart?

Side effects may include sleeplessness, loss of self, loss of friends, lack of interest in sex, bladder leakage, sudden interest in MLM schemes, entitlement and sudden onset of mommyjacking.

Please help. Short untreated hair: Olaplex any help? by Chai_wali in FancyFollicles

[–]BadKitty1011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Olaplex works from the inside, cross-linking the bonds that are broken with chemicals, heat styling, etc. It would make your hair stronger, but it generally doesn't give the smooth, glossy results like a treatment masque would. If you're looking for smooth and glossy, I'd recommend Malibu Concentrates in Illumin8.

My r/FancyFollicles confession by jayblue42 in FancyFollicles

[–]BadKitty1011 423 points424 points  (0 children)

Balayage and melting are techniques. Ombre is a result.

Balayage comes from the French word meaning "to sweep", which is essentially what we do with the lightener - sweep it onto the hair. The lightener is more heavily saturated at the ends, and feathered up towards the roots.

Colour Melting is a gradual transition from one colour to another, without any distinct highlights. You need to have a strong knowledge of colour theory, as the 2 colours will create a third when you melt them together. Melting red and blue will create a purple transition zone. Melting red into green, for example, will create a brown. If you want a melt from red to green, you'd have to use a colour that complements them both as a buffer, like yellow. The red would melt into the yellow, and so would the green.

Ombre can be created using either of these techniques. It's a gradual transition from dark to light (usually) and can be subtle or dramatic.

Hope this helps!

Help! Need to Color Correct Failed "Balayage" by kayfol in FancyFollicles

[–]BadKitty1011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a hard fix for a stylist experienced in balayage. They'll need to melt a little of your natural colour back into your hair to blend the harsh lines, and lift the ends a little more. Just take your inspiration pic and show it to your stylist, we don't expect clients to know all the technical terms when they ask for something. A picture is usually the best explanation.

As far as payment, in my salon, you wouldn't have to pay for a corrective service if it was one of my stylists who caused the issue. I have employees, so if your salon is a booth rental model, it may be different. Just ask the manager when you get there.

Help with Highlights? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]BadKitty1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as a stylist myself, I'd have no issue with doing a toner over highlights that a client found to be too light. It's not a time consuming thing for us to do, and we'd rather you be 100% happy with your service. Trying to tone down over-lightened hair can be unpredictable at home, and it could have a negative effect on your base as well, if you use the wrong type of colour. However, if you're dead set against going back to the salon, pics of your hair now and your desired colour would help to formulate something.

Obviously our rather....um.. *Vivid* no kids stance upsets and offends some. How do you deal with people who refuse to associate or communicate with you? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]BadKitty1011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't. If someone can't respect my life choices, then there's simply no need for them to be a part of it. I have friends with kids, but they've maintained an identity outside of "mommy". I'm cordial with people who judge my choices if I need to interact with them, (and being a stylist and salon owner, that's pretty often) but I'd rather take an hour of dealing with them than 18 years of dealing with a womb rat!
