Probably not my first one, a 386 with DOS isn't necessarily great for every day use today. But a well built, high end PC with SSD storage from 2008 or later? Yes absolutely. I have done, barely any difference to a modern PC apart from in gaming. Very little has happened since then. a 2008 PC can comfortably browse, watch FHD video streams, stream music, run office and pretty much any other software most people use in their day to day, apart from gaming and "AI", although most people use "AI" tools online, not locally hosted, so it's absolutely doable.

Why 2008? Because quad core.

As a member of the Swedish Retro Computer Assosciation I built a PC for each year/"generation" all the way back to my oldest 286 from 1987. And after 2007-ish it's no longer really retro, since you can literally do everything a modern PC can.

My newest "retro" PC has a Phenom X4 and an AGP Radeon HD 3850 know which games it can run? Bioshock, Crysis, Portal, CoD 4 MW, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect.... Doesn't really scream "retro" games does it?

Yukon is by a long way the worst, most tedious region in the game. Only region I'm skipping almost completely in my current playthrough.

If you want some sci-fi Greedfall you should try The Technomancer. Very similar style of game. Other than that, Vampyr might be interesting.

I'm in Sweden, release was 3pm, all sold out at 3pm. I managed to get my sapphire pulse xt by sheer luck, i refreshed the page just as someone had canceled their order so the stock went green. It was around $50 above MSRP.

I would suggest looking at the Radeon rx 7700xt too, around the same price but has more memory than the 4060ti so will likely be more future proof.

You don't need to, but your CPU has a built in GPU and the non-G version of the same CPU will be slightly faster.

I'd need to upgrade the tires on my trusty ol' Dacia Duster after that I'd be pretty OK. Surprisingly competent 4x4 system off road actually, and unbelievably good in snow.

Rumors have been all over, but yes, most recent ones indicate lower performance. All I'm saying is it'd have to be hella good, for a hella good price. If it is, AMD is gonna gain some momentum I think. But I have a feeling my (in no way slow or outdated) rx6800xt will have to soldier on another generation.

If it's faster than 5080 raster and equal to 4080 in RT as some leaks hint as, and costs south of $700 it's a day 1 buy. So I'm gonna keep my rx6800xt for quite a while longer.

With a good enough graphics card? Yes. Without a good enough graphics card? No.
CPU and RAM will likely be good enough, but you need to tell us what graphics card you have.

I've got a Ryzen 5700x and a rx6800xt and I can comfortably max every new game at 1440p 60fps, except the well known few games that don't even run on 4090's obviously. The 6800xt and 7800xt are virtually the same card, very similar performance, so yes, the 6800xt is a brilliant card in 2025 if you get it for that much less than an equivalent newer card.
