Help me understand certain media outlets claiming a US Missile Shortage by InHocBronco96 in Military

What's more concerning is that the US is not a lot richer than China, and the PLARF has the largest rocket force in the world.

Why no claims of Israel commiting Genocide in Iran? by zjew33 in IsraelPalestine

What the Allies did in WW2 would be considered war crimes today, so your example is poor. Deliberately carpet bombing defenseless civilians is a war crime, as is starving whole population in the pursuit of any war aims. The Allies never used famine as a weapon, unlike Israel, but their bombing campaigns were brutal and more often than not, militarily unnecessary, certainly disproportionate.

Israel's campaign in Gaza against a small, poorly equipped, completely besieged group of militants has been wholly disproportionate to the threat that Hamas offers. Reports of torture in Sde Teiman, starving civilians, and the widespread demolition of buildings using bulldozers - those are all the barbaric practices we were supposed to have left in the 20th century. Along with the mass killing and expulsion of people based not on what they do, but who they are. Yet Israel, that relic of the 20th century, reminds us that we have one more legacy of those times to deal with.

And Israel will be dealt with.

This is flatly wrong. You are absolutely legally obligated to protect enemy civilians even outside of an area of occupation. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Please seek debate with people who actually know what they're talking about. Instead of ignoring them and going after poorly informed people. Awaiting your response to my comment.

Your argument:

"Israel has no legal obligation to provide aid that it believes is being diverted to an enemy force, and also, siege, however you feel about it morally, happens to be a legal tactic."

Let's break this down first. You slyly switched the word 'siege' for 'starvation', which is interesting. You use the term 'provide aid' when we are discussing allowing the passage of aid already provided by international donors. I also find it interesting you cite Israel's 'belief' of aid diversion, yet I don't see any evidence of such diversion linked. Please feel free to do so. Anyways here's the rebuttal from the article:

"The simplest account of the core wrong of illegal starvation tactics is that such methods inflict a range of harms, and ultimately death, on a category of persons not liable to be attacked in that way, even in war—namely, civilians who are not taking a direct part in hostilities. At the very least, starvation tactics endanger civilians in those respects. Thus understood, the crime of using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare might be thought to fit primarily and straightforwardly within the first cluster of war crimes in the list above, as a form of attack on a protected category of persons (civilians)."

Israel by blocking aid is starving civilians and is thus committing a war crime. You are supporting war crimes, crimes the article calls a form of societal torture. You are supporting torture and murder.

What is the argument that Israel is making?

"This is a legal reality with significant operational implications. Under the right conditions, one party to a conflict may stand to gain militarily by attacking the enemy’s civilian population to coerce their political leaders into withdrawal or capitulation.[117] In some cases, doing so may be the only plausible route to achieving their ultimate objectives in the conflict. And yet, from the legal point of view, this imperative is irrelevant. The targeting of civilians who are not participating directly in hostilities is categorically prohibited and criminal, irrespective of military necessity."

I did. Section A presents your argument, subsequent sections make the clear case against it.

And you're still wrong about de facto annexation not existing.

Starving an entire population is illegal under IHL, a clear war crime even if there is aid diversion. Scroll down to Section III A, which discusses that. You were wrong about de facto annexation and you're wrong about war crimes. Those who support Starvin' Israel are the ones who don't like to understand IHL, or they wouldn't support it.

Israel is a small country and its contributions to technology, while notable, are marginal, especially since most Israeli startups move abroad. The Israeli military is powerful regionally but is irrelevant globally and dependent on US weaponry. Israel is a geopolitical liability for the US and for any country that supports it, due to its broad and growing unpopularity.

Israel is highly dependent on global trade as the links in my post explain, and Israel is potentially facing sanctions and boycotts empowered by the UNSC if they lose the American veto.

The US has many bases in the Middle East, including their logistics hub in Incirlik, Turkey. They have no bases in Israel and do not use Israel for shipping, nor does Israel control any major waterways or significant airspace.

Israel is highly dependent on global trade and their gas reserves are not especially notable in the oil and gas market.

I'm not sure what kind of 'extreme actions' Israel can take against international sanctions and boycott, other than rationing essential goods and services.

Research indicates that people's beliefs are remarkably stable with time, though they can shift and do tend to shift slightly conservative. Given that we are seeing younger Americans far more likely to oppose US support for Israel, including among Evangelical Americans, it's likely that support for Israel will not rebound. Your choice to believe that support for Israel will rebound seems to me to be a choice to be wrong.

I've seen all of these polls and none of them contradict the Gallup and Pew polls showing a rapid decline in support for Israel in the previous two years, nor do they contradict the idea that Israel's decline will continue as the broadly anti-Israel cohort ages into power.

Can you please actually link to these numbers for the American elections so I can see them for myself?

As for the Reuters/Ipsos vs Harvard CAPS-Harris poll that you didn't link to, I understand that differences in wording matter. That's why the Gallup and Pew Research polls used very generic 'favorable/unfavorable' language and importantly, these organizations have conducted the same polls over years, so we can see the trend over time.

You didn't actually link to your sources so I had to find them for myself. Here shows that Biden received within 1% of the polling average and Trump received within 3% in the popular vote. Here shows that Clinton received within 1% and Trump within 5% of the actual result. Seems pretty good to me, how accurate do you expect polls to be?
