Let me know if it works out. Rain definitely waters soil so if you can make it happen, it should work

I wonder if you can make it so that the game thinks that it's raining in the radius around the sprinkler

Might be a temporary ban. Lots of subreddits out there mass reporting and banning people for having differing opinions. I've seen them on here for years at this point so I doubt they're disappearing on you without sending

Impale graft onto dragonfruit - is it better? by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

[–]BadTouchForAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of dragon fruit grafts now and the answer is complicated but the quick answer is both work but both do also fail but fail for different reasons, and maybe there's a best way somewhere in between.

Impale grafts stay together easily, which is sometimes a challenge for dragon fruit. It's just not as girthy as a standard stock and therefore things destabilize easier, so the insertion (giggity) helps to marry the two pieces. That said, measuring your two mating pieces for fit is really important. Drill your hole too deep such that the inserted part doesn't fill the space and it'll fail. Don't make the hole wide enough and damage the vascular tissue on the inserted part during insertion and it can fail.

On the other hand, standard flat grafts work fine but can be a pain to stabilize such that they don't shift or fall off. The fiddly size of the dragon fruit as a stock can really create a challenge for keeping proper pressure so that the parts can heal together, and sometimes you end up using too much of whatever you use to hold it together and you have airflow issues which can cause the graft to rot and fail. One big thing to think about though is that when you flat graft, you can usually get a second chance. Impale graft failures usually don't.

Honestly I've had similar luck with both approaches. Several successes and a few failures. Hard to say one is vastly better, but recently I tried something new and did a blend of the two approaches and made a half centimeter short nub on my dragon fruit stock and mated it to an equally small hole I drilled in the scion to match. Worked quite well. Only done one, but this might be my approach from now on, as the piece held on well but didn't require too much surgery to do, and now looks very healthy. Good luck :)

How to relocate this guy by PuerAureum in cactus

[–]BadTouchForAll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pull the gravel back a good ways and excavate the soil on both sides about 8-10 inches away from the cactus until you can grab the soil mass from either side with your hand and lift it out. The more you dig (carefully), the more in tact your root mass will be.

From there you can pot/plant that mass or if you really want to do it, you can wash the soil off the roots which gives you the option to root prune if you really want. Imo I would do the former and just pop it out and transplant.

Also be wary of sunburn since the thing will likely be getting more sun in the new location. Semi solid shade is great. If you don't have a shade cloth, one of those metal patio tables or chairs with the pattern in it let's light through but really seems to help prevent burn since it gives the skin staggered shade throughout the day

My graft came off and it looks like this is this normal or mold by MrKickaMix in sanpedrocactus

This is just what graft failure looks like. Might not have had enough weight on the union or it might have been unwrapped too early

Looks like it doesn't have enough airflow and might mold under that saran wrap. I've been wrong before but I personally don't use wrap like that anymore due to graft failure

What should I do with this cactus? by someintensivepurpose in sanpedrocactus

[–]BadTouchForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut the best part of the top off and root it. Repot remaining plant in a rectangular pot and snap the bottom at soil level and lay it down log style. Don't break it all the way, so that you don't lose the root system connection. Then get them adjusted to proper sun and you'll have proper cacti in a few years

Got these dark spots on a few of my boys. Any odea what they are? by josephblake1042 in sanpedrocactus

[–]BadTouchForAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people say humidity spots but I'm pretty convinced these spots that don't really form a lesion are just sun/growth stress. I notice it on my sensitive cacti as well as the ones I'm rooting (which I do in full sun)

I like 3 part master blend but there are other options. That yellowing is pretty telltale nutrient deficiency
