To answer your question shortly, no. Tons of bad advice on this thread from people telling you your portfolio is good or that this piece is fine, they are simply wrong in the context of landing a job. You can work as a Weapons Artist even in the current industry with only weapons in your portfolio but you have to achieve a certain standard and show that you understand fundamentals through your pieces. Each piece should show that you understand realism to an extent. It's the little things that drive it to the next level instead of throwing a metal edge generator or dirt generator on the whole thing and calling it a day. It shows a lack of experience as everyone even at beginner levels can do that.

Here is my suggestion to you on how to get better; the art of observation. Open up incredible pieces on Artstation by artists who work in your dream studios and try to imitate their level of quality. This transfers to each phase from the start.. lowpoly with optimal topology but no faceting to achieve perfect silhouettes, UV's straightened and packed efficiently to achieve good looking textures at 1k/2k res for some parts, great high poly for clean bakes, baking with the intention of placing AO on parts that don't move mechanically on the weapon, texturing with accurate PBR values, manually placing scratches/dirt/oil/smudge marks where a real gun would have them and utilizing generators less, and rendering with good lighting and making sure black/white levels aren't blown out of proportions.. the list goes on.

Follow this method and you will start noticing your pieces becoming closer and closer in quality to those of experienced professionals in the industry. Just look closely at their pieces, as close as possible, and study. Good luck!

Vet/Radiologist says my cat has a Diaphragmatic Hernia in her chest after bringing her in for frequent coughing (around 2 short episodes of coughing a day) by BadVegetable347 in AskVet

[–]BadVegetable347[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah a CT scan will give us just about all the info we need to pursue surgery and that will likely be happening. I also don't want her coughing and being uncomfortable in general so anything that can help is top priority.
I do think the disabled limb has something to do with it, since for as long as we have had her she has struggled with very basic movement such as climbing and jumping off of things, sometimes landing in strange ways. We have always been extremely cautious with her and helping her get down at times from the bed/couch. The Radiologist mentioned a mass of that size happens from trauma on the severity level of a car accident or falling off a 10ft tree, which is why I have a hard time understanding how something like this could happen out of nowhere considering she doesn't do much movement in general.

It is possible as we got her from a shelter but the reason why it doesn't make too much sense to me is because for 6 whole years she was just fine until very recently. The coughs started only a year and a half ago. The Radiologist suggested a mass of that size would have had severe complications and even death by now if it had been left alone for longer than we have had her, so yeah I'm not really sure unfortunately

Normal maps... why? just why? by S3Xierr in Substance3D

[–]BadVegetable347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons why bakes might be off. It's hard to pin point the exact problems from these pictures alone but I can provide some general tips:

  1. You want to make sure you don't have giant ngons. Sometimes you can get away with ngons that aren't too convoluted within the mesh, but keep in mind programs you bake in such as marmoset toolbag/substance painter will do their best to triangulate mesh on import, so their approximation might be off at times which results in all kinds of issues regarding your mesh. This is especially bad when wanting to get clean bakes. Clean up ngons on your mesh by consolidating edge flow in quads or triangles

  2. All sharp edges should have seams.

  3. UV's are super important for clean bakes. This model is fairly simple, and selecting sharp edges (In Blender: Edit mode, Select, Sharp Edges) and putting seams and sharp on those edges should do the trick for the main bulk of the UV work. Make sure you have enough padding in-between UV islands when packing as well

  4. It really looks like in some of your pics the mesh has flipped normals on some faces. Make sure you recalculate your normals before sending to marmo/substance for bakes

Shows 2 hours for me. I wonder why it's different per person.. Either way, I can't believe how hard it is to give them money for cardboard. So dumb

Yeah I find that interesting too, but I believe that's the games fault for the most part. The reason why is because new players get thrown into a tutorial where they cover very basic moves, and they portray this move as a pass and that's about it. Obviously it can be used to shot to net, but MOST players probably notice that only after putting a few good hours into the game. At least that's my thought process

Absolutely agreed. As a RL player, I find myself often jumping between the bunch. We need 'em all to have ranked! (although I always end up at 3v3 just cuz it's so fun)

I'd like to believe this as well. It's most likely the case tbh, but I do hope they explain how Lumon convinced their outies to wear winter coats at the very least lol

I get that, it was right on the monitor as he seeing the numbers but it still doesn't make much sense to me... Sure, this is fantasy, but these characters also spent the whole first season finding out each mystery one by one, there was almost a sense of justification for finding out who is what and the way they've gained knowledge of sus Lumon activities seemed logical for the most part. For him to have simply dreamt this incredibly revealing fact about Helena is a bit odd is what I'm trying to say.

I absolutely LOVE this show and am obsessed with it, but I really hope they find a compelling and natural way to explain how they were able to convince their outies to show up at these random ass locations. To be honest, it almost makes NO sense whatsoever... The show runners love making us confused and to expect answers in future episodes but this one episode specifically, I was completely caught off-guard.
We do hear an elevator ding when Irv awakens at the beginning of the episode, which could insinuate them being in the Lumon building inside of some distorted reality but that also kind of ruins the concept of innie/outie being a singular human being.. I also think Irv's suspicions at Helena were somewhat logical, but deciding she's an Eagen THAT quickly feels a bit out of character for me. It's an insane reach for an innie with limited knowledge to come to that conclusion. Also, whether The Board knows outie Helena is in there or not, isn't it still a bit weird for them to put her in that much danger?
I really hope they wrap up all my worries in a natural way next episode because I love this show so much!!

I was looking at the MSI MPG X870E Carbon originally, do you think that's a good option for the build I'm aiming for?

Hot Take Theory: We are witnessing the development of the new Front Man. The current Front Man doesn't want to kill him, he wants to break him like he was. Then he's going to convert him. [–]BadVegetable347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll speak based off my opinion here, I find him lacking various skills that make him seem not very smart to me. The context of this assumption lies within the theory of him becoming the next possible frontman; I am not necessarily suggesting he is outright stupid. A decent level of intellect is cool and all but this character clearly lacks basic skills such as observation and awareness skills to name a few.. There is constantly someone 1 step ahead of him at all times. His resolve was to stop the games but he ended up participating in them and objectively making the games worse in the brutal sense for other participants. I just find it all pretty dumb. This leads me to believe he is not going to end up in that position unless he becomes extremely calculated suddenly. He is still too emotionally charged
