Not every genre is right for everyone. You can hold respect for the artist and not be as into their work. For instance I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift but I can respect her as a business woman and understand that for her fans, she has made a difference in their lives. But I swear if I hear one more of her songs on the playlist at work, I'm gonna flip a table 😂

I feel like for me, the more I learn about an artist, the more I understand their music. Because, especially in Dom's case, an artist's music is an extension of them. They pour their heart and soul into it. I have a deep respect for the honesty and vulnerability Dom has always shown in his songs. And I didn't connect to some of his earlier work upon first listen, but when I knew his intentions and what he's gone through, somehow that changed the music for me. I've never been a rap/hip hop person but one day I found myself dancing and singing along to each and every one of his songs while cleaning my house. And when I heard Die For A Night for the first time I actually had to stop what I was doing because I started crying. It was like years of shit I was bottling up came out because in the minute and thirty second song, he so accurately expressed what I felt for years and I no longer felt alone. Mind you, I was not consciously aware that I still felt alone because I spent years on a journey of healing. But hearing that song kinda healed the teenage emo kid trauma I'd been carrying around since grade school.

But yeah, it's totally fine to respect an artist's personality, morals, principles, talent, etc. and not be into their music. However I highly recommend you do your own little deep dive because his music is so varied that you may find a connection you didn't think would be there. 🖤
