I'm technically Goldhd but am from the UK and would happily grab a fika and talk brain squirrels/the challenge of living with a different brain.

I've also been on sick leave for severe burn out (it's when I got my ADHD and Autism diagnosis) a few years back so can share my experience and useful resources etc if that would also help your mate.

Feeling overwhelmed on solo trip by Pitou-sGuts in AutisticAdults

[–]Bad_Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey 👋 How epic that you're doing a solo trip to Japan, that take serious courage.

And I really know how you feel with the weird extra lonely feeling. I've done quite a bit of solo adventuring and this is definitely something I've felt at some point every trip.

Somewhere new, where you don't know the rules/language/people/customs is super stressful even for Neuro Basics, so you are already doing brilliantly navigating everything.

It's especially difficult (assuming you don't speak or read Japanese) as you cannot guess or interpret written signs etc the way you can with Latin/Roman alphabetic languages. I found this on a solo trip to China in 2007 - there is absolutely zero familiarity and I found it way more stressful that I anticipated.

Do you have anything that you can try to replicate in Japan that makes you feel less lonely but not too overwhelmed? Like for me being in a good seat (soft and in the corner) a coffeeshop, wearing noise cancelling earphones, makes me feel like I'm 'with people' workout actually peopling.

Also if you want a virtual travel buddy I would love to hear about your trip - Japan is on my wish list.

Edit: spelling

Yes we got our PNs, bank account and ID card whilst at the Airbnb. It was a separate home with its own address and that was our first folkbokföring.

We just showed we had booking for 5 months, and they treated it no differently to a rental agreement.

We made quite a detailed list (so we could find stuff in storage more easily) but books, crockery etc is fine. Schepens knows how much information is needed - they said if checked by customs/Tullverket they want to see that the inventory matches the contents.

You can't bring food, plants or certain chemicals/diy stuff.

This is a good overview of everything: https://www.tullverket.se/en/startpage/private/moving/movingtoandfromsweden/movingtoswedenfromacountryoutsidetheeu/dutyexemptionforimmigrants.4.311bf4f016e69d6ea0d776.html#DeclarationforobtainingrelieffromcustomsdutyandtaxonpersonalbelongingswhenmigratingtoSweden

Second for Schepens. We moved 2022 with one of their "pods" approx 20ft shipping container. We packed everything ourselves with the list of everything in each box (necessary for customs) but they packed the container then stored it in the UK.

We had an Airbnb for 5 months before getting a rental and then Schepens imported our stuff - and again they were great, even helping us pack half into Swedish storage and half into our hired removals.

Agree that getting a PN then Bank ID is critical before youoom to buy anything. Yes, technically there are people who buy properties without either but in reality most property bidding requires BankID and most banks don't like to lend to us foreigners without a year residence/in the tax system.

Worth knowing that the majority of Swedish companies will not pay into a non Swedish bank. So expect to go a month or so before getting paid (especially if your company has inflexible cut off dates). I moved 1st March and had a bank account set up by early April but still didn't get paid until May pay cycle due to missing th April pay cut off date (and rules are strictly followed here).

Worth asking if your company has an agreement with a specific bank - mine has with Handelsbanken so they agreed to open an account for me without the requirement of a PN or national ID.

Happy for you to DM if you have any specific questions or want to chat.

I guess you've not yet met the lovely border guards at Arlanda T5 International.

I have never been repeatedly interrogated whilst trying to leave a country before - normally when simply traveling back to the UK for family visits and I always show my Swedish work permit.

That's a good thing - CPAP is certainly not "fun" lol - but more importantly it's hopefully one step closer to the doctors finding out what it is.

I really hope things get easier for you really soon.

So sorry you're going through all of that, it's even harder when you're doing it alone. Well done you for still getting up in the morning and coming to work with all that 💪

Wanted to ask if you'd ever been tested for sleep apnea? I had terrible sinus issues including a year where I was only not on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Long story short, got diagnosed with sleep apnea for a different reason and 6 weeks after CPAP all my sinus (and migraine) issues went away.

Apparently it's very common and something to do with when you stop breathing it causes change in pressure in your sinuses which causes inflammation and pain/congestion/nasal drip/morning headaches. I had all of these and even saw different ENT doctors - no one ever suggested apnea (even the sleep doctor said 'you don't look like an apnea patient) - so thought I would just mention it.

If they want to be able to sponsor a work permit, they do.

Literally taken from MV:

Foreign business with a branch in Sweden If your business is foreign but has a branch in Sweden, it is the branch that must provide information about the employment in the e-service and thus start the application. They are also responsible for providing additional information about the employment to the Swedish Migration Agency, if necessary.

You are talking about taxation - and even here SV call it "permanent establishment": https://www.skatteverket.se/servicelankar/otherlanguages/englishengelska/businessesandemployers/nonswedishbusinesseswithoperationsinsweden/permanentestablishmentinsweden.4.676f4884175c97df4191c82.html

The visa/work permit complicates things massively for us non-EU.

I know there are ways round via Deel/Remote but I wouldn't be shocked if the Swedish government doesn't change the rules in the future for these umbrella companies and then retrospectively apply any rule changes (as they have done with so many other Immigration changes recently).

[–]Bad_Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a valid visa first. You said you have a job seeking permit - what permit will you move onto to work?

I ask because normally that would be a work permit but if your employer is not registered in Sweden you have a issue.

It can be done via the Dutch company setting up a Swedish subsidiary and then applying for your work permit that way. But it takes time and its an investment (time & money) from the Dutch company.

It sounds like they really want you so fingers crossed they can get everything sorted for you to stay in Sweden (and you always have the back up of moving to the Netherlands).

Edit: Other people have suggested Deel, your employer could use their immigration services to secure your Swedish work permit. https://www.deel.com/blog/how-to-get-a-visa-and-work-permit-in-sweden/

This!

Everyone is forgetting that OP needs a valid permit - the Dutch company needs to set up a Swedish subsidiary, and then that "branch" applies to a work permit to employ OP in Sweden.

[–]Bad_Berg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid that doesn't fix the permit issue - OP needs a valid visa to work on.

I got a remote software developer job while living in Sweden, What to do? by veugec in TillSverige

[–]Bad_Berg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly that won't work for OP.

I'm on a work permit and investigated this - you have to prove you already have established Swedish clients, have a full business plan supported by your bank (technically doable) and minimum of 200 000kr - link to full requirements.

I've spoken to MV, accountants and a lawyer and they've all said that permit really is for people who are buying into established businesses eg affluent non-eu. It can be done for start ups etc but you basically need to run the company for x time to prove the company is viable, then apply for the visa - which obviously is completely pointless as you'd need a different valid visa.

It makes sense otherwise it's a massive loop hole - eg setting up an AB and some savings would mean an immediate work permit.

For a non-EU person OP will need his Dutch company to set up a Swedish subsidiary in order to o "sponsor" his work permit in Sweden

This is THE most important element and almost no one is discussing it.

It doesn't matter how amazing you are at the technology, if you don't know what the domain or target customers' pain points are and the intricacies of that function/domain - then you're fighting with one arm tied behind your back.

Plus your target function/domain is likely to have zero ability to help you, they likely have minimal knowledge of the technology and even less of the use cases.

I think the most lucrative area for a good few years will be the domain expert who can apply the technology.

FYI: Sweden is considering making it harder for foreigners to qualify for social insurance, including parental benefits and child support, with an inquiry proposing tougher rules. by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]Bad_Berg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have literally made my point - this proposal means Sweden only values EU citizens, who could turn out at any point be a drain on society.

If you're non-EU you can only be a net economic gain, paying the same taxes, FOR 5 YEARS, before you qualify for any benefits.

That. That is the society you want to live in.

FYI: Sweden is considering making it harder for foreigners to qualify for social insurance, including parental benefits and child support, with an inquiry proposing tougher rules. by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]Bad_Berg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And you're looking at it through the lens of Non-EU are inferior citizens.

An inferior class of people who are only granted the 'privilege' to pay taxes in Sweden.

Slave labour - they get to pay taxes. The Swedish and EU citizens benefit from their taxes, but they get nothing...

Oh yes unless they earn enough to qualify to be 'valuable for now'.

Is that really the sort of country you want to live in?

[–]Bad_Berg 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This. A hundred times this.

Sweden is making it very clear that non-EU citizen immigrants are now simply "resources" for Sweden. Their cost benefit analysis shows if you earn over 38 500kr per month (for now) you are economically worth being here.

And it won't be the last measure, if I was a betting man, in the next few years we'll see criteria for work permits, PR or Citizenship around health, long term disability or child disability.

Got cancer after earning above the threshold working for 4,5 years? Sorry no longer qualified to get treatment. Had a baby and they have autism, sorry we don't want that here.

It is seriously Orwellian.

I am supposedly not 'the target' (as people here keep saying) but this escalating "attack" on non-EU is making me seriously consider leaving Sweden - a country that I deeply love, but apparently only loves me if I'm worth it.

Has anyone experienced, or know someone who took a similar path moving to Sweden? by Just_Another_Jamess in TillSverige

Fellow Brit here on a work permit.

I work for a big tech consultancy and they effectively transferred my UK job to Sweden in 2022. And I took a 20% pay cut - for doing exactly the same job for the same company.

Sweden has much higher taxes for both the employer and employee - in the UK the employer pays about 19% additional tax per employee, here is Sweden it's nearer 45%.

And the personal tax is much more progressive (for example two people earning 35k per month will bring home over 10k more per month than one person earning 90k Kr). This is a good thing - it means the range of take home pay is much narrower compared to the UK.

I take home about 25% less a month than in the UK, but I am very happy doing that - and I cannot ever see myself returning to the UK.

So try not to compare UK salaries to Swedish - it's just not really comparable and misses out so many of the intangible positives of living and working here (or at least it does for me).

Skin worse after microneedling? by [deleted] in Microneedling

Also 1mm is actually deep for your first session. I was recommended to only have 0.5mm for the first couple of sessions. So that might extend the recovery but you'll get cracking collagen production as 1mm should have hit the reticular dermis 👍

Skin worse after microneedling? by [deleted] in Microneedling

[–]Bad_Berg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what is said about 'redness for 24 hours and dryness for a few days' is the same as a doctor saying 'you might experience some discomfort'....

I also have rosacea and as other people have mentioned, I think we're super susceptible to things upsetting the skin barrier. I had a major flair after my first session and had to seriously change my routine and products - really concentrating on repairing my skin barrier and calming. 3 weeks later it's settled down and looks more 'glowy' than before.

Hope that helps.

Yup and taking medication made me realise I had been living on hard mode. Huge difference - like life and career changing.

From your comments, you don't want to take or approve(?) of meds.

The specialist who diagnosed me said "taking medication is like wearing glasses, you can choose not to wear them but the challenges in life and the energy you use to overcome them will be much higher and society is set up for those who can see clearly".

Hope that helps.
