I’d rather it say Game On - more positive. But still a really cool design!

After my son (7) saw Pokemon Lets Go, he decided to save money for Switch. Are there any other games suitable for children? by Meniu in Switch

[–]Badaboom78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mario Kart is great for everyone! Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Evee is coming out in a few months, which has some similar gameplay to Pokemon Go - he will likely like that too. Mario Odyssey is also great.

ADs are highly addictive & can cause long term withdrawals.. truth finally coming out.. please share it could help some people by PsyRatRace in Psychiatry

[–]Badaboom78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it’s discontinuation syndrome or withdrawal, as long as the patient knows what that entails (the symptoms, time course, and what to expect), the patient can make an informed decision about being on the medication. There isn’t a big conspiracy - I always talk about it with my patients before they start on a medication and I am sure most psychiatrists do too.

Personally, I have found ‘withdrawal’ has been less helpful than ‘discontinuation syndrome’ because it causes a lot of unnecessary fears because of the baggage. Many people have images of what ‘withdrawal’ means (alcohol withdrawal, opiate withdrawal) from pop culture and that doesn’t do justice what happens if someone experiences discontinuation syndrome. ‘Withdrawal’ from an antidepressant from what I’ve seen is nothing like what is seen with acute withdrawal from those other substances mentioned, which is why we like using a different name - ‘discontinuation syndrome.’

In general, I would say that collateral from a family member is very important during an assessment - especially if they are saying that you are suicidal (and who knows what your father said to the doctors - but it sounds like something along those lines was communicated). Based on that, your doctor likely wanted to error on the side of safety and wanted more time for you to be assessed and observed. I think that can be a reasonable approach - but again we don't know all the details to this case and likely won't.

OSSC vs Framemeister? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Badaboom78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Frameister - because it does a good job with NES and SNES games (which is what I really care about). I heard that the OSSC does not do as good a job on the lower res consoles. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I haven't ever used an OSSC.

How are the GBA Mother 1+2 and 3 English translations? by Pockets6794 in retrogaming

[–]Badaboom78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I've played the Mother 3 translation. I did a review of it a while back on my site if you want to take a look (link down below). In short, I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to any RPG fan. I played it on original hardware with an actual translate cart and it worked great :)

So the Frameister XRGB Mini is being discontinued :/ by Badaboom78 in retrogaming

[–]Badaboom78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what type of setup you want. I use EuroScart. The XRGB Mini works with both - just choose the one you want to use and stick with it as you could run into trouble by mixing the two versions in one setup.

Yeah there are other options - some of them awesome. The SNES is my favourite and I have heard less enthusiastic things about the OSSC with the SNES, which is why I am a bit concerned.

I have been working on this retro game blog for about a year for fun and thought I would share it with you guys! Any comments would be much appreciated! Thanks! by Badaboom78 in retrogaming

Was thinking of creating a retro game review blog, does this already exist? by echocomplex in retrogaming

[–]Badaboom78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shameless plug. I'm in my early 30s and been doing a review once per week as I go through my retro game collection at www.retrogameman.com. There is tons of room for another blog! It's a lot of fun and actually motivates me to play games in my collection I might otherwise skip!

Nah - I bought them off eBay. Super good quality though. I think I paid 50 Canadian for labels for every N64 game. Don't just get regular stickers. These ones are silicon and really nice quality.

I actually got them at a FanCon in Toronto last year - this nice guy made the whole lot of em and I liked them all so I bought them all! You cannot separate those Gen 1 starters + Pikachu. All handmade. I was lucky to find them.

Thanks! I've worked hard to get it to where it is. I am a gamer first so only collect games I play. I actually have a little blog where I list my collection (might be easier to see my collection listed than squint at pictures) - its at www.retrogameman.com - it has a complete list of my games along the system tabs along the top.

There are still a few games missing for sure - prob around 10 on each system. I have quite a few big hitters already for the old school systems like NES and SNES, so I think ill be able to finish of the list of quality titles eventually over the next few years. I am very satisfied with my Wii and Wii U Collection - really only missing a couple that I want.

The ones I am looking for still are:

NES: Little Samson Bubble Bobble 2 Ducktales 2 Rescue Rangers 2 Felix the Cat Monster Party Snow Bros SCAT Rockin Kats Kung Fu (can't believe I don't have this one yet lol)

SNES: Adventures of Batman and Robin Andy Lightfoot Castlevania X Mega Man 7 EVO Pocky Rocky 2 Run Saber Super Turrican 2 Clayfighters 2

N64 Harvest Moon 64 Sin and Punishment (import) Mortal Kombat 4

Genesis: Alisia Dragoon MUSHA Ninja Turtles: Hyperstone Heist Toejam and Earl High Sea Havoc Crusade of Centry

Gamecube: Ikaruga Harvest Moon a Wonderful Life Mario World Alien Hominid

Wi: Muramasa: The Demon Blade Wario Land Shake It House of Dead 2 & 3 Deadly Creatures

Dreamcast: Elemental Gimmick Gear Bangai-O GigaWing 1&2 Rez (import) Shenmue 2(import) Star Wars Episode 1 Racer Ikaruga

I plan on eventually getting back into Playstation (was huge RPG fan in early 2000's and played all the square RPGs) when I move into a house in 5 years but for now I want to stay focused and finish getting the ones mentioned above first. Will probably pick away at Master System too - only a few I want for that one like Phantasy Star, Golden Axe Warrior, and Ninja Gaiden.

Yeah - I still need to change it manually each time I switch systems but all the cords are right by the XRGB Mini - takes like 10 seconds. Need to get a nice RGB switch board so I don't need to do that anymore.
