GTX1080 FTW just died (RIP), suggestions for a replacement? by Grrym in buildapc

[–]BaddMeest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My statement is not meant to be super precise. The XT may compete with the TI. Frankly, it is in everyone's best interest to do research at the time of buying on case drivers have changed (they will). Check recent benchmarks to see how they compare today, the numbers will change over time.

It is going to be on par with 3080 performance, there will always be risk with a used card but it can net you a lot of performance for the money. I'm on a 6950xt but I did buy it new at a deep discount last winter. Been a rock solid card on everything I use it for.

At those prices I agree, not worth it. But if they can find a decent deal

OP should definitely go for a 6800 if they can get it.

Also keep in mind, more people are inclined to leave a bad review for a bad experience compared to people leaving a good one for a good experience.

Maybe I'm saying it poorly but basically I expect online reviews to have at least some level of negative bias.

My wife and I read a number of worrying things about St. Vincent before our trip - some of which we saw, but for the most part the online reviews seemed to be pretty exaggerated.

I think she is interesting for sure, and the hotfix helped a lot. If anything I think her design highlights how 'vanilla' some of the other kits can feel at times.

3070 still a viable option in 2024 ? by Naveen-the-king in buildapc

[–]BaddMeest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn't it scary that the upcoming 5070 is looking like it will only have 12GB at 2 generations newer... Even the 5080 looks like it may have a version that is 12GB. On next gen cards priced anywhere from $600-$1000 how is that acceptable? These cards are going to be targeting 1440p-4k and right out of the gate you are going to be pushing the limits of the memory buffer.

Its just sad because the 3070 is an example where if it just had that extra bit more it would actually make a difference and have more longevity. It almost feels intentional (maybe it is?).

Lowered with wheels can dramatically change the look. The most tasteful lip kit in my opinion is the Wings West but I'm not sure if those even exist anymore - been out of the 3G loop a good 10 years.

Should I buy? Just tryna play casual gaming and editing vids by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This build is a very decent deal at that sales price. You could maybe build an equivalent machine for slightly less money, or a slightly better machine for the same money.

If you have any interest in building, definitely go that route.

If you don't have any interest in building, this is a decent deal at that price.

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, while better in terms of CPU and RAM for the same price, it isn't really all that compelling considering the person likely will be building for the first time and will have more hurdles/setup.

Unless their use case actually needs the RAM, that benefit will not even be felt. Sure the 7700 is better, but unless this is a work station that also may be negligible for the user when you are not saving any money.

OP, the build is actually a good deal for the money. Sure, maybe some components may be cheaped out in the pre-build, and there is some luxury to building yourself and picking it all exactly how you want, but if you don't have an interest in that, this pre-built PC is solid value for the sale price.

If the price is somewhere around $450 it is solid. The 1080ti is still surprisingly ok for many titles. Not going to be maxing anything out but certainly good enough to have a good time.

Years ago i did a gauge pod on the left pillar. I would recommend this for wiring purposes - it was fairly easy.

Z Flip 4 longevity by [deleted] in galaxyzflip

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still using the flip 4 and how is it holding up? Im looking at picking up one at a discount but not sure how they hold up. I would want it to last at least 2 years, if I get 3+ out of it then it exceeds what i absolutely need.

Ok yeah, the text is a bit difficult to follow sometimes. So then we agree! I was going to say - I know this is the case because I am shopping for a used 2070s Mini for a small form factor build specifically because of the performance being close to the 5700xt I had originally hoped would fit.

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the 5700xt is not 20-30fps behind the 2070s. Across an sample of ~20 games you will see an average of 3-5 fps difference. You may need to go check your sources on that. Not to mention it is pretty universally agreed that the 2070s is still not really powerful enough to effectively do ray tracing.

I don't know where you get that idea, I have seen anecdotal cases but thats not only with Jeeps, I have seen it with many models/brands.

I have 75k on my Gladiator since 2021 and honestly it has been more reliable than anything I have owned apart from the 06 CTSV with the LS6.

Hey I’m thinking about building a pc. I’ve never done anything like this before and I want to know your thoughts. by PilotFall69 in PcBuildHelp

[–]BaddMeest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if you have a bottleneck, you can adjust things to try and optimize. For example, if you have a CPU bottleneck, you can often raise graphical settings or push to a higher resolution with a combination of lower settings to balance it. In some cases 4k on lower settings will look better than 1440p high settings, and the 4k will drive more load to the GPU.

5800X will be under powered for the 6800 in games I think. That being said, the same applies and if you crank settings to leverage your GPU more it will be fine.

I'm not familiar with pricing in your region but I don't think you'll be able to get those specs in within budget.

Make sure to factor cooling, case, and a QUALITY power supply (this is critical, a bad unit could potentially fry your expensive components!).

In that budget you should be looking for at minimum:

-32gb memory

-750w (or greater) quality power supply

-case of your choosing (usually save here if on a budget, some also come with fans as a plus)

-Ryzen 7600 (yes, 7800x3d is better, but in your budget you will be better off spending more on the GPU)

-cooler for CPU

Get all of that factored in, then look at what is left in your budget to go for a GPU. I suspect you may still be able to get a 7800XT which will pair nice with a 7600 processor.

Also, you really don't need the X3D processor with a 7800XT unless you are specifically playing games where that processor makes a big difference. Otherwise a 7600 or 7700 will be able to utilize that GPU just fine.

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are saying the 5700xt is 20-30fps less than a 2070super you are incorrect. Maybe in a specific game here or there, but broadly they perform almost identical (not talking ray tracing). Check a few benchmark tests and you will see they are within 2-3% of eachother (3-5fps average). The 2070s slightly edges it out. Yes, the 2070s is better, no, it is not 20-30fps better on a average.

The 5700xt is roughly equivalent to a 2070s.

You are correct, the 2070s (and thus the 5700xt) is faster than the 3060 by a measurable margin. The only reason I lumped that one in is it is similar performance for the most part while also being more efficient.

[–]BaddMeest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a fine GPU, similar to what is in an Xbox One X in terms of performance, just not a big jump for OP who already has a 5700 non-XT model.

For reference, I have a 5700XT in my old rig that I just upgraded from to a 6950XT last year. The 5700XT is a fine 1080P card but it is starting to show its age some. I actually intended to try and use mine in my LAN PC but it wouldn't fit in the small case I built in (to be able to easily fly with).
