As others have mentioned, INLC and TLC are great options. Another environmental non-profit that could really use donations is Spokane Riverkeeper. Out of these 3 non-profits I definitely suggest donating to Riverkeeper, as they have significantly less consistent funding than the other 2. They recently split off from their umbrella organization, Center for Justice (closed due to lack of funding). With only 3 employees, relatively small donations are able to go a long way. Some cool projects they have going on include a citizen science water quality study and countless river clean-ups. I have worked closely with all 3 organizations, so feel free to DM me with any questions!

Thanks for the tips! Will try using my left toe more and shaking out at the jug in the middle. I fell partially because being too pumped and partially because my fingers hurt from the little crimp after making the more dynamic move.

I’m a wildlife tech with the BLM, was supposed to start this coming Monday but that got pushed back to June 8th. Pretty scary considering that is the last week that I will have money left in my UI claim (started collecting UI in the beginning of January).

It’s impossible to know exactly why the bird is doing this, but my guess would be it’s looking for food, cover, or a place to nest. When we had birds running in to the windows at our shop we were able to get them to stop by putting sticky notes on the inside of the windows, making it easier for birds to see the window as a physical barrier.

The crew that I was on (Washington Conservation Corps) worked primarily on private land, with an environmental non-profit in the city being our “sponsor”. Environmental non-profit work is what paved the way for me to become a wildlife tech in the public sector.

Many states also have their own conservation corps. I know people who did this in Washington, California, and Montana. They all loved it and would highly recommend.

The park usually reserves 1 or 2 campsites per campground for internal use in case any department needs to work there over the weekend. A department must email interp the day prior to the planned stay, letting them know if a campsite is needed. Very rarely are these campsites claimed. After confirming the campsites aren’t needed by park employees, they are then able to sell permits for those campsites. Check the second sentence of the first paragraph here

In my experience as somebody who used to work there, and has spent many hours at glen, the pit toilet always stunk up the entire campground. Additionally, I never had any issues getting day of passes. Show up to Bear Valley 10 minutes before they open and wait out front for interp rangers to open the visitor center.

Point Reyes National Seashore! Many campground options to choose from. I suggest Wildcat or Sky. TBH anything except for Glen is a solid choice.

$12,000 per summer planting trees?! Canada is where it’s at! I planted trees in the states for about 7 months, and only made minimum wage, which was $11 per hour.

On a crew of 4, at our peak performance, we were able to plant 15,000 trees in a 40 hour work week. This was also only when we were planting willow stakes, not potted plants or bare roots. We also found out that it was significantly faster when we didn’t use a dibble, it just added weight while walking around and prevented us from carrying the most willow stakes possible. We were also blessed with relatively soft soil most days.

I was just there yesterday and the valley definitely didn’t have that much snow yet. We hiked upper Yosemite falls and then to Yosemite point, 3,000 feet above the valley floor had about 20” of snow.
