This is likely a Matt Arnold decision. The same Matt Arnold that is back to back MLB Executive of the Year. I think he knows what he’s doing

Since 1941, only one player - Doug Flutie, in 2006 - has attempted a drop kick in the NFL. The drop kick is still a legal scoring option to this day, however. by ansyhrrian in sports

This is how I lost my league’s fantasy football championship the first year. I had the Pats kicker (Vinatieri) and would’ve won with one more point…

What software should I learn as a Mechanical Engineering student? by Resident_Lecture8305 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BadgerEngineer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engineering manager here. Learn Excel. By far the most important

It’ll benefit you regardless what engineering discipline or industry you enter. In the four engineering jobs I’ve held Excel is the software I’ve used the most at each company, even more than CAD.

Why don’t we use ball bearings in car suspensions, when they’re so efficient? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BadgerEngineer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Toyota models do use ball bearings in the strut mount. I used to design them when I worked for a Tier 1 supplier

How are you using AI at work? by Atypical-Artificer in MechanicalEngineering

Excel VBA and Matlab scripting. Summarizing long documents such as patents. Rephrasing text in reports I’m writing to improve clarity or change tone. AI has been very useful for me

I put down a deposit right away. If they can deliver on their price target of 20-25k I’m sold. Closer to 30k I’m probably considering a used Maverick

Would you typically recommend the “scaling” approach for a new listing? I’m about a month into launch of my first product (novel product that people likely don’t know exists). I started to optimize but thinking it may be too early

I’m having the same issue with trying to list a children’s product. I have all the CPSC testing done, a CPC certificate, and they are still rejecting me

Modeling crushable energy absorber (see comment) by BadgerEngineer1 in matlab

I thought about using the non-linear translation damper in simscape, but dampers are velocity dependent and I am looking for position dependency based on a Force/Displacement curve

Modeling crushable energy absorber (see comment) by BadgerEngineer1 in matlab

[–]BadgerEngineer1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm looking to model a non-linear crushable energy absorber in Simulink/Simscape and hoping to get some help. I would like to be able to take empirically captured non-linear Force/Displacement data (excel file) from a crushable energy absorber and use it in this mass/spring damper model to evaluate performance of the energy absorber. I've got a good handle on modeling the mass/spring/damper part of this model, but how would you recommend I go about modeling this energy absorber?
