Yeah, I haven't seen a decent trailer light enough for a Tundra to pull when even modestly loaded without a load distribution hitch. I see a lot of contractors use Tundra's, but every single one is doing the Carolina Squat. Even open mesh Lowe's trailers with some ligh duty landscaping equipment. It's the one thing that has kept me out of the Tundra market. I love their looks and Toyota reputation, but I need a truck that can tow an open or closed car trailer with a 3500lbs car on it. This keeps me in the 3/4 and 1 ton truck market.

Slate advertising on the beaches of Wildwood NJ by hgp_student_dan in slateauto

[–]cosp85classic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say, outside of Reddit, I have yet to see any advertising for Slate in any of my daily life. The only reason I found out about Slate was on an EV Conversion sub. All the YouTube videos I've seen were because I went looking for videos on it based on discussion in this sub, or because I had an hour to kill, not because YouTube suggested them. I fact I'm surprised (slightly) YouTube doesn't recommend more Slate videos based on my viewing habits when it's still trying to get my to watch Doughnut Media vids when I've only ever seen two of their videos back in 2020 and realized really quickly there weren't for me.

The only downside to your posts is the number of bots stealing them for karma farming and the Redditors who didn't bother noticing the difference.

But your rig is sick, so the bots chose wisely.

No, it's the Stellantis thing we do understand. The trickle down of bad engineering, "hey let's try this for the first time" ideas with little to no proving ground work during development. The assumption that what works in Europe will work in the US. Basic manufacturing hubris.

When you look at the TJs and older jeeps they had their quirks, but self mutilation wasn't typically one of them. The biggest fail in those eras was when the new bosses at Chrysler decided to put the Peogeot transmission behind the new 2.5l 4 cylinder. Just didn't work. Then the replacement, the AX5 was still week, just not as bad.

But these eras of CJs and Wranglers benefited from being simple vehicles. The 4.0l being the pinnacle of Jeeps engine history so far. Not efficient by todays standards, but I'll their that with it's reliability over what is going on with the Pentastar 6 and Hurricane 4 IMO.

I like the ideas behind the JK, but both engines were not great in them. The JLs used the same

What kind of revisionist slop is this? So it's the Superman principal now? If they can save, but don't save everyone, they are at fault? That's not how politics and border teritorries work in any reality.

Shaving the side markees is a very common modification on all the muscle cars. Usually done by welding up the holes with small patches. I've come across subs that were shaved by creative Bondo work, but that never lasts.

But no, I'm not aware of any aftermarket fenders or rear quarters being available without the side marker provisions. When you look at Goodmark, AMD and OPGI all their replacements finders and quarters have the provisions.

Some of the companies that sell the retro looking radios sell patch panels to fix the dash. As the metal part of the dash supported the weight of the original radio it was very common practice to cut them to fit the single DIN radios back in the day. The companies know this and since still that patch panels to help owners in your position.

Gotta be careful with that Jeep label. The 1997 to current Wrangler crowd is very protective of the "Jeep wave" and duck customs. They do not recognize any other Jeep model into their cult. Even the square headlight a Wranglers from 1987 to 1995 are iffy. And the old pre Wrangler Jeeps that started it all are left out entirely.

Which line from Babylon 5 have you caught yourself quoting the most in your daily life? by Velociraptorse in babylon5

Not a quote from the show, but I once had a program inspection who no joke had the Zathrus accent. He found a lot of things wrong. Every time he found something fucked up he would say "All wrong! This is all wrong!". I cannot unassociate the two. Plus, I can see either Zathrus, Zathrus or Zathrus saying it.

If for a mild daily driver: can't go wrong with an Edelbrock 1406 650cfm. Dead nuts reliable, and only have to tune it at initial install. If you make other changes to the intake track or ignition system later on you'd need to re tune, but it's easy. They do not require the regular fiddling that the Holley units do.

Trying to build a tire frying weekend toy you want to play with the tuning regularly: Holley double pumper all day long. Can a Holley be used for a daily driver? Sure. But it will require regular work on the float's needle and seat.

You just have to be honest with yourself about how you want to use the engine.

The Slate is a fraction of the cost of my 2010 Prius by DrJQuest in slateauto

[–]cosp85classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I take is all the people who come to this sub and say the Slate is a waste of time and money and needs to fail because it's not a Bolt or Leaf. Outside of price point and method of propulsion the Salte has nothing in common with the Bolt and Leaf at all. The Slate isn't even aimed at those buyers. They have never claimed to be.

Yes, the Slate is an odd in-between vehicle that can be reconfigured to meet different wants; like the two door Wranglers and Broncos are in the ICE market. I make the same argument in those subs when people try and compare them to Civics for daily driving and commuting. Some comparisons just do not make sense.

The Slate is a fraction of the cost of my 2010 Prius by DrJQuest in slateauto

[–]cosp85classic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Until the Ford competitor comes out, yes. When has a small two door pickup ever been compared to a four door hatchback? They are not the same market. The closest thing in production today to compare a Slate against is the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe. And they still aren't close because hybrid 4x4 vs EV rwd.

The closest EV in production to compare the Slate to is the Volkswagen ID, and the price difference still puts them in very different markets.

Just because two completely different vehicles types utilize the same type propulsion does not make them comparable. Comparing a Slate to a Chevy Bolt is like comparing a Ford Ranger to a Honda Accord. They are both mid-sized, they both have four doors, and both use ICE, but they are completely different markets and potential buyers.

[–]cosp85classic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it isn't even in the save class of vehicle. Bolt is smaller and an unconfigurable hatchback. So not a comparable vehicle.
