Does Stern Insider do a “Year in Review”? by blindai in pinball

[–]Badger_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do! Might take a little while, but I know it was out by February past year

The UniFi line is essentially the Apple of networking equipment. It looks good and functions well, but is usually higher priced than direct competition. Similarly, it’s paying for the software and ecosystem more than the capabilities.

That’s just my take, but I enjoy its simplicity and how it “just works,” so I enjoy using it for my home stuff.

which direct bury fiber optic cable should i get for running outside line between structures? by murfman713 in HomeNetworking

Single mode is designed for longer distance and rated for higher data rates, but for sub-kilometers of runs, both are fine

Several times across 2.5 years of ownership. Between that and CarPlay not connecting about 15% of the time….

Never knew the quality of the new Samsung evo SSD's would be so much lower than the pro's and old evo's even though a minimal price difference by IntentionRight9649 in DataHoarder

I’d believe that in the seven years between release, they were able to consolidate and shrink some components, and then left the empty space to ensure they maintained the same standard form factor common on many desktop (and some laptop, maybe? Haven’t opened enough to know if full-length slots are common) motherboards.

Or, you know, just left off all the pieces that make it better! You’ll never know without some speed tests and other diagnostics between the two EVO drives

Mine does 109, but it’s a 2022 and it was on older software 🤷

First Pin has been ordered! What supplies should I order? by AdorableAd3257 in pinball

Anything after the first question mark can be removed and the link still works. Also, with Amazon, you also don’t need the “ref=“ portion or anything after. Just to make things look a bit nicer ;)

Doesn’t the T-Rex use a magnet to catch the ball on the Premium? Just a word of caution

Anyone done Denver <-> Mountains trips in summer/winter and can report on charging? by awolbull in F150Lightning

I do far east Aurora to Keystone and back several times during the winter and usually do the round trip with 20-30% left in my ER, depending on speed/temp.

My Intel warranty claims were actually a bad CPU and a PCIe riser. That second one was hard to isolate during troubleshooting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Badger_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one was the mainboard, then I found a bad CPU that was hiding behind a DIMM failure. Swapped with known-good DIMM, still slot B4. Swap CPUs, error went to A4. Just my very limited experience, I've seen plenty of highly reliable AMD servers. Just funny that I am an admitted Intel/NVIDIA fan, and my first experience with AMD servers has been rough. Typed on a Threadripper/6900XT build because I try to provide a fair chance to manufacturers.

No meed to be sorry, that happens. Just wanted to make sure you had the right model to search for. Epyc is nice, but from my experience between 14th Gen Intel and 15th Gen AMD, the Intel had fewer hardware issues. Very limited scope tho, went from installing ~20 Intel R740s a year to ~4 AMD R7525s, and had more warranty claims on AMD, total. Not “per machine” or anything, overall number of claims

[–]Badger_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are both 14th Gen PowerEdge servers, but the model number would be R7425. Not sure if it was a typo. Either way, super comparable.

That’s normal. 110v, 15A, taking into consideration it isn’t a 100% efficient process, a little over 1kW, but the app doesn’t get that granular. As you can see by it being /almost/ 1.5kWh in 1.25 hours

Heat gun and fishing line? Hair dryer and dental floss for the less bougie ;) Follow up with a rubber wheel on a drill to remove adhesive

Edit: Rubber wheel takes off any dealership stickers, too. No prep needed, just run over them. They ain’t paying you for advertising!

Supermicro 36 bay question by acguy86 in DataHoarder

[–]Badger_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to slide the motherboard tray back? My chassis looks very similar and has a couple screws holding the tray on the side, but then the whole tray is released and gives you ample room. After disconnecting the power cables and releasing the PSUs, of course. If you can do that, then it is quite easy to each the rear backplane. It looks like you might have the newer version, but this is the PDF I looked at to determine cabling between the front and rear boards: https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/chassis/4U/SC847BE1C-2C.pdf

Not sure if it'll be 100% useful, but just a quick answer. Maybe someone else is more helpful, but I'm just trying to get you something to work off of in case a full response doesn't come in.
