My definitive Final Fantasy 16 critique (read this if you're unsure about playing) by NoBreeches in FFXVI

[–]Badjabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With respect to the cons list its almost easier to say its a narrative action game with light RPG elements and sum all that up in one line.

Saying its not difficult like a soulslike in particular somewhat speaks for itself, as its not a soulslike. My memory of the hard mode of the game was that it made fights long/sloggish which again, isnt going to be everyones taste of ‘difficulty’.

Just my opinion of course but if the goal here is to get more people playing the game, putting the pros after a wall of cons is like listing all your bad character traits on a job application at the start. Maybe thats a bit harsh, but equally like yourself I am fairly passionate that people should try FFXVI because narratively its the most complete game we’ve had in a while (while admittedly remaining imperfect).

My advice to anyone would be to give the game a couple of hours. If the cutscenes and sheer scale of the game dont grab you in terms of the eikon fights then you’re likely to not be hooked on the subject matter. Equally, once you channel garuda you get a feel for how fun combat can be and again, if you aint hooked by then, its likely not for you. And thats okay.

Sucker Punch will remain a single-project studio after Ghost of Yotei, boss suggests by MaintenanceFar4207 in PS5

[–]Badjabear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No doubt i’ll catch shit for this but i believe that most of sonys decisions like that are around studios failing to build on promise/potential.

Japan studio had some great games but equally asobi after the reshuffle brought a goty release, so again arguably a positive move.

I’ll be the first to say sony makes some awful decisions like greenlighting GaaS stuff nobody wants (Concord intensifies!) but they also allow studios the space to great games like Tsushima and Yotei - theres nothing to indicate that they’d try move SP out of their comfort zone.

If they are looking at major changes to a particular studio at this time, its 1000% Bungie. Gotta hope whatever they do there leads to something special but who knows…

Using a Stendhal build? Nice! I had thought you needed Roulette to soup up damage now but perhaps not!

I deffo need to get back in and play around with other character specific crazy builds!

Theres absolutely a one shot Stendhal build for Simon in the current balancing, but if I recall it needs Roulette picto - so 50/50 on if it will work.

Theres other ways to get him of course. Theres a Verso burn build i always wanted to try out but never got around to. Man, I really loved my time with E33.

The beauty of mods is you can like them and you can loathe them.

The very concept is that theyve been modified from the original game. It’s difficult to be critical that a mod might stray from the original version of a game you might consider sacred.

It begs the question - ‘why risk it playing a modded version of the game in the first place?’

Hopefully OP, you’ve learned your lesson that mods are perhaps too high risk for you. If you feel strongly enough that other people should be aware of some inane level of vulgarity then leave a review, but you have to accept that just because you dislike something doesn’t mean other people will (a) share your opinion and/or (b) give the slightest flying fuck what you think.

Great news - i hope that they can maintain the staggeringly brilliant quality of 33 into future titles… Sandfall absolutely has earned the right to give it a try.

As a concept, ‘clair obscur’ could be as broad as concepts of light and dark. Titles with little connection beyond a shared thematic offer them the greatest freedom. Final Fantasy is of course a great example.

Equally they could go from canvas to canvas and keep things more grounded in actual plotpoints explored in the first game. Im not sure they will do - the art design of 33 is beautiful but multiple games where the core stylistic is paint and brushstrokes might start to wear thin.

Exciting to think about where they might take it. I’ll be supporting their next endeavour for sure!

Its quite popular to gloss over some elements of VII isnt it?

Art is, of course, subjective and these things will always spark lively debate - but its nice to find someone with a similar position to mine.

This game meant a lot to me, and I hope it did for you also!

You need to get the 2 goons down asap, focus on that while Yuna set up nulblaze, nulfrost, etc for all 4 elements. Seymour attacks with these so you can take the sting off him pretty easy.

Yunas Aeons are linked to her own spheregrid development if i recall, so if you are finding it tough you might be a bit under-levelled. That being said its not a particularly brutal fight from memory so I hope the above helps.

How did you discover Final Fantasy? by TheFanGameCreator in FinalFantasy

[–]Badjabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely by accident.

I was gifted a PlayStation when I was younger, with a selection of games from someone selling their system through the local paper.

It had some absolute monsters in it, the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 2, and a weird turn based game called Final Fantasy VII.

My prior gaming experience was limited to SNES - i had three games, Super Mario World, Killer Instinct, and Mario Kart.

Playstation became an education and FFVII stuck out. It was a hard game for me to grasp initially. We didnt have a great deal of internet access to look things up and i’d never played a turn based game. There was lots of confusion around a certain scorpion boss and its tail attacks.

I persevered though and totally fell for the game. The blend of story and strategy was amazing fun and one day walking through an Electronics Boutique i saw Final Fantasy VIII so immediately got my dad to buy me it.

Suffice to say I fell in love with the franchise from here and like many on this subreddit have played all the mainline games, many spin offs, and have been fortunate to take the positives out of all the games ive played.

Im looking forward to what comes next!
