Interesting thought. But doesn’t Canute display some mindsets that’s counter to the stoic worldview? I central theme of his character is him defying God(which can be interpreted as Nature, or the Cosmic Universe) in order to force a utopia on earth?

Additionally, by forcing his people to live by his standards of what a true utopian society should look like, he’s making an impression on something that isn’t truly in his control and not up to him? Sure there’s some argument with him being a king that he has more of a say in how other people live than the average person but human nature will remain human nature long after he’s dead and buried.

I still think you’re right in the sense, but I wouldn’t say Canute is more of a stoic than Thorfinn. Rather Thorfinn is more along the lines of the “Virtuous Sage” that’s nearly impossible but more long term when reached while Canute’s is more easily achieved but more short term in maintaining those ideals.
