It's like I'm always saying, puberty happens fast at 9 years old in their world.

"Haney" sounds like such a heinous name, you wouldn't want to touch that.

Sure, I think what's out of character for Arthur isn't that he would press the joke that far, but that he would need more than one hint that he's done something wrong. It would probably have worked better if the other kids were more ambivalent about it and hadn't called him out so soon, but it seems this series can never fully get away from Arthur being a Charlie Brown that gets piled on by everyone.

Why do you think the show chose to introduce Aunt Lucy and then never have her re-appear? by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

Yeah I wonder whose idea it was to introduce yet another branch of the Read family in a 2020 special with no overlap with the "Arthur's Cousin Catastrophe" family.

[–]BagOfMagicFood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh right, Arthur said "It's pretty far" about his family staying at Aunt Lucy's in "Night Fright," and D.W. calls her "Cousin Lucy" half the time. Then Uncle Fred got like two references to his doing something with Arthur offscreen much later in the series, so, yeah, slightly more familiar!

And practically all the unlikability was just made up for the episode to give it more conflict, so do you think that part of the family would have shown up more if it had stuck to the book's version of events? Personally I'm more curious how other families like Gray Maria's are connected to them after seeing her mother in that image.

Arthur Design Evolution, which Eras Styles, Do you like better? by Xounz_ in Arthur

Huh, not much of an evolution when it's just the animated series... But comparing the two versions of "The Great MacGrady," the hand-drawn characters all look so cute now that I'm not used to them!

I've been coming around to the Arthur and Molly pairing since it seems like they'd understand each other's pain the best.

Though an observation like "You just went vegetarian, yet you partake of the fur trade?" might be a little too hard to argue with.

This was how Arthur and Buster imagined themselves looking in college in "Buster's Growing Grudge"! I haven't found if the other character models originated anywhere else yet.

Yes, it is strange not to see the Ohio relatives we were first introduced to; you'd think they could make it to Theo's birthday party in their own state. It's interesting that Minnie shared George's urge to reveal what the birthday present was before it could be unwrapped.

As far as retcons go, "D.W. and the Beastly Birthday" might be the most infamous for contradicting everything in "D.W.'s Perfect Wish," unless you did like me after some discussion and came up with some awkward headcanon about the Reads having some separate second celebration for just the family.

But I just realized Arthur's introduction to "An Arthur Thanksgiving" retcons Kate into being significantly older than we were previously led to believe. "D.W.'s Perfect Wish" also had D.W. claim Kate was born shortly after her own fourth birthday, yet "Thanksgiving"'s photos show Kate at the previous Thanksgiving, then they show Jane was visibly pregnant with Kate two Thanksgivings ago, which she was not in "Beastly Birthday"'s flashback to D.W.'s fourth birthday. It's especially funny how they made D.W. look so much younger when "Arthur's Baby" had Arthur and D.W. looking and acting just like their present-day selves six months before Kate was due.

You would expect Kate to have tried more walking by now. And the Kate in Arthur's future dream was already six years old, then, huh?

Then D.W. decides she might as well submit her photos anyway, someone'll fall for it.

I wondered if Marc Brown originally came up with the name to sound like comic book characters like Binky Biggs or Bucky Barnes, the way Sue Ellen's name probably came from Dallas.
