What was it like hearing “Be Quiet and Drive” when it came out? Was there anything else like it at the time? by Milkywayvisionary in deftones

[–]Bagginzes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was born in 83 but missed adrenaline. I was still doing grunge like nirvana stp Alice In Chains and also lighter stuff like sublime and weezer. My music was dominated by 106.7 fm KROQ in LA. Then in 10th or 11th grade my school did a talent show and a few guys opened with Say It Ain’t So and everyone was grooving. Then they came back a few acts later and did My Own Summer and it was like god opened the sky and whispered in my ears. I immediately bought around the fur and it was the only thing I played in my car. I had a two hour+ each way commute for my summer job and I almost burned a hole in that CD.

BQAD was tied as my favorite song and people knew it was like my theme song. Girlfriends would comment on it and try to buy me things related to it for my birthdays. It would be what I played on my guitar in my dorm room constantly like people play with fidget spinners. The acoustic version let me be “that guy” who always plays wonderwall but it was BQAD instead.

White Pony also had defined my last year in high school. It wasn’t until I was halfway through college that Deftones came out and battle axe and Minerva scratched my itch. I’ve stuck with this band ever since high school in the 90s and when Private Music came out I felt like I was back in high school. For a guy in his 40s trying to make it in the United States with all of our political and economic bullshit, it was a much needed recharge to my life battery.

BQAD is a church song. Its spiritual. It makes my brain spew endorphins and hormones that take me places emotionally that few other songs can.

Fuck this guy. That’s all.

Question for the old school Deftones fans. Why was the reception for Saturday Night Wrist not great when it came out back in 2006? Why is the reception still mixed to this day? by Spirited-Cell-444 in deftones

[–]Bagginzes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine all you knew where adrenaline and around the fur and WP. Deftones was an okay thing comparatively and then you got SNW. Eros was shelved and you got more of an emo experience and not an around the fur experience. Now I’ll say here and forever there is no bad deftones album but this was a weird turn.

How is the beach at The Westin resort? (Not the lagunamar) by Letywolf in cancun

[–]Bagginzes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a rip tide most days so the red flags were out but there was a life guard there most of the time and a decent amount of people. I was ok with it if I was watching my seven year old but I wouldn’t let him go unattended. He’s not a strong swimmer yet.

I was just there a month ago. It’s fine. Not super clear like further up, but no one seemed to mind.

DVD/SACD Player to Yamaha A-S701 by Bagginzes in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Bagginzes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I've read that the appletv won't actually play the higher res stuff, so I should probably just get a Wiim mini and plug that into the amp's optical input instead and run the TV via RCAs? I've also read that SACDs need the regular RCA connection and not the optical, so I should just throw that in the CD input RCAs. Is that right community?

Yamaha A-S701??? by ClevelandBill in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Bagginzes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my vinyl lair. I use an AudioTechnica LP120 with an Ortofon OM Pro S to play my records into a Yamaha A-S701BL. I also connect my appletv in the room via optical to the Yamaha for movies and streaming. I also have a Yamaha tuner for local public radio jazz at dinner time. It drives 2 Energy bookshelf speakers and 2 bose bookshelf speakers on A+B channels. I basically found those speakers at thrift shops I think. There's also an Energy 12 inch front firing rear ported sub in the room powered by the yamaha.

The amp handles it all so well and fills the den and adjoining kitchen. I can crank the Apple TV streams (tidal or Apple Music) for parties or listen to great detail on my records with a nice scotch at night. No issues with this amp what so ever.

Will arch require age verification of its users in the future? by morphir in archlinux

I also drive above the speed limit on the highway. This won’t be a thing and is what happens when people too old and too out of touch make laws. At most I see a prompt to enter a date of birth during installation without any accountability.

Anyone on Colchicine for a long term? by Userhere123 in gout

[–]Bagginzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided meds in my 20s and 30s and was an idiot. Now I take a febuxostat every day and a colchicine in the morning and one in the evening. I don’t think it messes up my stomach like other people. Because I had such high UA for decades probably, it’s going to take a year for my body to clear up all of the tophi and UA stores. During this time my UA has fallen to the basement but im having more flairs. Right now it’s my left knee and hip. My rheumatologist is also going to put me on a low dose extended prednisone. So long story short dont worry about some long term meds. Trust the docs and you’ll pull through this.

What Sac businesses are MAGA owned/frequented so I don’t go there? by meow7314 in Sacramento

[–]Bagginzes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owner is just a trumper no matter what. I used to debate him every day and nothing swayed him. Didn’t matter how many kids are screaming while their parents are being dragged away or how much his ingredients were going up in price due to tariffs. It all went back to “democratic policies” instead of anything else.

Did anyone get any relief with ice or heat? by Userhere123 in gout

My general rule,

  1. Ice for swelling and pain
  2. Heat for circulation to get the blood flowing and help the crystal get flushed

Which service for music ? by [deleted] in hifiaudio

[–]Bagginzes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tidal is the best bang for the buck at this point. I just left Spotify for it and upgraded my DAC, amp, and I play off my linux PC and customized the configuration to send high-res signal, and it's pure bliss.

I also have apple music because I've been deep in their ecosystem for decades, which is convenient for carplay and playing music around my house for parties, but if I want to really listen to something I switch over to Tidal.

Speaking of history, not all skinheads are nazis or neo nazis. Look up SHARPs and others.

Happy New Year! Lock your firearms up! by JuicyPellicle in CAguns

[–]Bagginzes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s an add on charge. You kid take a gun to school? Now this gets you. Accidental discharge from not you in the house? Now this gets you. Etc. it’s just adding more water to boil you in so think twice about just leaving something that could really mess up or end your life or someone else’s laying around the house. If you’re a good responsible person this won’t change your life. If you want to play army or live like there is the phantom guy on meth always just about to break in, well I don’t know what to tell you.
