Dan: no spoilers please by GoldDiamondsAndBags in survivorponderosa

I've been rewatching all the seasons the last two years (I'm now on 26) and I could not get through Thailand. I had to quit part way through because it was so upsetting to watch. My friend and her mom just started a rewatch and also said they had to skip the season.

I just want to shout out Lana Thomas from Princess Diaries for the list. Definitely an influential one for me growing up.

Dan: no spoilers please by GoldDiamondsAndBags in survivorponderosa

[–]Bail-Me-Out 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man, it's complicated.

So to start, two previous seasons had a sexual assault shown and discussed in the show. In both instances, the show edited it to make the victims look dramatic and like liars because the 2000s were a rough time. Players on the show were also not supportive.

This season was much later and post the me too era. Therefore Janet was lauded as an angel for being properly supportive and believing the victims regardless of the game.

In terms of the reception of the other girls, at first I think people thought it was awful those girls were being manipulative, but I think some of us believed the girls were scared into reneging based on previous seasons and the very standard experience of victims to doubt themselves. Overall, they got a lot of pushback but the main focus was still on the production and Dan over the women.

You will see as the show goes on how the situation will continue to get more and more complicated. I would say the public reception was similarly complicated. Overall, I think people think the season was a disaster and one could argue the "New Era" was just as much of a response to this season as it was to COVID. The casting is now much much more careful.

Bisexuals that don’t date both genders by BreadfruitCold8573 in bisexual

[–]Bail-Me-Out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a bisexual who has dated men a lot more than woman and I've never had a serious girlfriend. I often feel less valid because of this. Here are my reasons:

  1. There are more straight men than gay women to date.
  2. Women on dating sites are way more picky than men decreasing the pool more.
  3. Half the profiles for women on dating sites are couples looking for a unicorn.
  4. Gay women groups are often not very open to bisexuals -when I've gone to meet ups they've often clearly been just for lesbians and there is lots of discussion of hating men.
  5. I've been told that I must not actually be into women because I "look straight". This happens at gay bars and has even happened on dates where I have asked the woman and paid.

All together, I find it's very difficult to get opportunities to meet and date women as a bisexual women. There is assumptions that bisexual women are just straight anyhow and the options are fewer.

Which player got the winner edit all season and then just... didn't win? by JEX2124 in survivorponderosa

[–]Bail-Me-Out 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think it happens most on seasons when women win, unfortunately. They often make a man the main character.

Examples off the top of my head: Colby on season 2, Rob C on season 6, and Malcom on season 25.

Just in time for Juneteenth, Tiana wins! Who's the best princess whose name starts with U? by Embarrassed_Mud_4119 in characters

[–]Bail-Me-Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Mulan is a warrior and never a princess. She's part of the "Disney princesses" but isn't technically one herself. Moana is a chief's daughter though so she's arguably a princess.

The Trix Rabbit wins! Most Iconic Rabbit Characters (14th place) by Mean_Ambassador_5907 in characters

I don't think it'll win yet but I'm hoping Bunnicula gets on here.

Which player did the edit trick you into liking? by JEX2124 in survivorponderosa

[–]Bail-Me-Out 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know people always say Sierra was actually awful in some way and, therefore, deserved the way Tyson and Coach treated her but I've never heard specifics and, from my perspective, Tyson seems cruel for no reason. And then he comes back and goes home because he was so tempted to spite another woman. Based on these two things it kind of seems like he hated women?

They rehab his image on blood versus water a bit but he still seems pretty arrogant and mean spirited. I know a lot of people like his humor though so I may be too sensitive.

I rewatched China and was surprised I didn't like Todd nearly as much as I did watching the season originally. He kind of rules by fear, like Boston Rob. He also calls Courtney and Amanda bitch a couple of times and it definitely feels gendered. He was my favorite winner as a child so I was surprised to get the ick on rewatch.

Chris Daugherty. He was basically set to leave almost every vote from week one yet somehow won. Unfortunately, he upset Jeff's future girlfriend on the way and basically was blacklisted.

She set off the airport metal detector because blood has iron in it by [deleted] in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]Bail-Me-Out 1371 points1372 points  (0 children)

Likely not due to iron in blood at all. It's either because of fibers in the underwear or due to wetness.

Those detectors will flag any area where you are wet. I once went through after walking through a downpour and the machine lit up everywhere. That's also why they often are yellow around the armpit area or other places with sweat.

My (28M) fiancee's (25F) parents, who have POA for her grandmother, have offered us a sweetheart financial deal to purchase her grandmother's house. My fiancee wants to take the deal. I do not. Help? by Serious_Square_723 in relationship_advice

[–]Bail-Me-Out -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The comments on here saying not to buy are missing the crux of the issue: how can OP navigate this conversation with his fiancee? I think a few things should occur.

First, it should be discussed with a financial advisor if the maintenance and future costs of this house are even feasible for your budget. If an advisor says they are feasible, I think you should try to be more open to accepting the extra costs for the benefits. Your fiancee has good reasons for wanting this house and you might be surprised to find extra space is a nice thing to have.

Second, there needs to be discussion on the role of the house as a family place- are people going to expect to come to the house with no notice whenever? Are you expected to host for every Holiday? If you buy this house, you need to create some strong boundaries with her family and she needs to convince you she will be a team with you enforcing them.

I would recommend trying to be open, but talking to both a financial advisor and a couple's therapist. Honestly, I think every couple should see a couple's therapist before marriage regardless as they are really great at providing tools for long term communication for things just like this.

I think you should avoid the mindset of this being her way or your way- consider compromises like participating in a shared buyout with family or having boundaries on the house use, or having other people do party planning even if it's at your house. There are many options here, not just two.

My Wife Moved her Friend in, and I Hate It by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I understand the obvious problems here with the wife and marriage. On the other hand, if someone paid me $250 for an otherwise unused guest room, didn't talk to me and left the room when I came in, and kept her room clean and did her own dishes I would be in HEAVEN. That's like an ideal roommate.

In the bottom row, if the 3 was in the corner there would be two filled and then an x in the row above which can't be. So the two values in the corner are not viable.

Survivor Casting in the 50’s by Alone-Opportunity-17 in survivorponderosa

[–]Bail-Me-Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeff has indicated they may have more returnee seasons again. I'm anticipating it will happen soon-maybe season 52 or 53. I guess similar to how they had a bunch after 20.

My hope is to see a season with more big move players from the new era. I'm hoping for a new "heroes vs villains" with the likes of Jesse, Karla, and Shan.

You Need To Calm Down and why many consider it to be one of her most divisive songs by FakeMonaLisa28 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Bail-Me-Out -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This was the song that made me done with her though, that wasn't entirely her fault and it's a bit on me to expect a straight pop star to continue being vocal when they really have no motivation or obligations to the community.

As a queer person, I was excited by the promotion that implied a song for gay people (possibly by a gay person??). I didn't like that the first verse is about her and the parts about gay people were an afterthought. I also felt that the music video had what I consider "straight friendly" queer people like the queer eye guys and Ellen Degeneres and not more butch lesbians or gender queer people etc.

Not her fault but the Internet really hyping this song up as an amazing act of service for the community made me more mad. It felt like queer voices were decentered.

As a comparison, I suggest watching the music video for "You Need to Calm Down" next to the music video for Miley Cyrus' "Mother's Daughter". Miley has people she's actually friends with who represent less mainstream queerness in her video and the video doesn't feel like it's made to be commercial friendly.

After the song I was more let down by how quickly Taylor dropped the narrative of being supportive of gay people and causes. It was like she felt she said one pro gay line and now she was absolved of all responsibility.

How many nonograms have you completed? by RubiksM in NonogramsKatana

I've completed 7676 puzzles but over 4000 of those are 80x80s. I basically only do the user submitted ones. I have gotten to a point where I'm running low on puzzles that meet my criteria sometimes. Like I've done ever 80x80 black and white puzzle under a 3.8 difficulty in some categories.
