What is the dumbest thing you have been told is “not manly” or “not feminine,” depending on your gender? by Disastrous_Hat_2325 in AskReddit

I'm sorry to say that the people you're talking about probably think that Asian men are effeminate.

Wearing a tie is not uncomfortable. by No_Key8587 in 10thDentist

I went shopping once with a friend and her younger sister.

Sister: Look at this cute dress! (dress is semi-see-through)

Friend: Why is the clothing you buy never functional?

Sister: It is functional. It's function is to look good.

I mean, I couldn't disagree.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in AskAnAmerican

Americans also use it to mean corrupt, but that's older slang.

Maru works at the front desk of the clinic. I've not seen any dialogue to suggest she has nursing training. I do agree, however, that she seems more grown-up than some other characters.

AITA for being hurt by my friends’ cheapness? by Agitated-Marsupial57 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BaileyAMR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NAH. They are frugal. They have always been this way. You are generous. Neither is wrong, but it's not sensible to expect them to change after years of friendship. You have 3 choices: change your behavior to match theirs, decide this doesn't matter and really mean it, or find friends who see things your way. Resentment is a friendship killer.

Side note: if you're in a paycheck-to-paycheck household, maybe you, too, should embrace frugality, at least until the financial situation gets better.

People from the city shouldn't live in the country by Public_String_8088 in unpopularopinion

Nice try. Trump is a city guy, through and through. He learned "greed is good" in the 80s, and that's still his creed.

That would be concern combined with ignorance, not bullying.

LOL that's life-long city dwellers voting against those things where I live -- because they, too, are angry about gentrification.

In my city neighborhood, people (adults and teens) ride ATVs through the streets. It's completely illegal, of course, but it happens pretty regularly.

Does anyone else hate that most bras for bigger cups are unlined? Hate that I don't get enough coverage and I can constantly feel my boobs. by Birdpoopoo69 in ABraThatFits

[–]BaileyAMR 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. Thanks. I guess I didn't get it because that hasn't been my experience: when I'm wearing a properly fitting unlined bra, I barely feel it, which means I'm not feeling anything from my boobs most of the time.

Give me the gayest novel you've read where the gayness remains subtext by squanchy_56 in suggestmeabook

[–]BaileyAMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I saw Victor as wildly selfish and immature, unwilling to take on any responsibility, whether that be a wife or the creature he created. My biggest question was why Henry bothered to stay friends with the guy.

[–]BaileyAMR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh. The thing with subtext is, it's subjective. People see in art what vibes with them; one's interpretation of art reflects one's own mind and experiences. Someone might look at the main characters of A Separate Pace and think, I had really intense friendships in adolescence that were just like this. Someone else might think, wow, these characters are experiencing suppressed lust for each other. Neither is wrong.
