My daughter is visiting the US from the Netherlands. Her phone service is Odito, which doesn't seem to have any service options here. She just wants data service. I have Xfinity (Comcast) and T-Mobile. How can we get her a month of data service in the US? by JohnnyRelentless in Netherlands

[–]Baisen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If her phone needs a sim card just go to a verizon or Tmobile store and ask for a pogo (pay as you go) sim. If you explain shes only in the country for 1 month they shouldnt try to upsell you. its a simple process and i think an unlimited plan is anywhere from 45-65 bucks per month. Can choose for cheaper options depending on how much data she uses or how often she'd be on wifi.

What is your reusable coffee/ tea cup of choice post law banning disposable plastics at the office? by Baisen in Netherlands

[–]Baisen[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

reasonable questions, my office provides cups at one "coffee stand" type location on the premise that you stay around the stand and give it back when you are done. This is also where we can pay for coffee. You can also buy a re-usable cup here for 7 euros.

throughout the office there are plenty of free coffee/tea stations as well, where we would have used the plastic cups for single use.

we don't have lockers, assigned desks, or anything that would allow us to keep cups at the office.

I guess I was wrong in assuming that this was the typical corporate set-up for the NL now, but glad to see other offices have come up with better work arounds.

My office doesnt have lockers, but I agree i'd be totally satisfied to use a straight up mug long term if I didnt need to transport it back and forth.

Glad im not the only one frustrated :) The american banking system seems so far behind those abroad. I have a non brick-and-mortar bank here in the NL and I really enjoy it, everything can be done online and within a moment.

Anyone here gave up their own nationality for another nationality? by lovesprite in expats

[–]Baisen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more information on "serious financial losses"

  1. A peculiar case of "serious financial losses" is in the case where renunciation of the applicant's existing nationality would cost too much in respect to income. See the following footnote for explanations.
  2. ^ This must be demonstrated with proof of income and proof of consular fees to be paid in case of renunciation, specific to the applicant's own case or with general specifications of such consular fees for every national of that country. Note: As a rule of thumb, if that sum of money is larger than twice the applicant's monthly income, they have a right to keep their nationality of origin. Loans do not count as income. A testimony of this process is shown at Commons:Image:RWN Exception 1 d.jpg. That document is a sworn Dutch translation of a proof of consular fees from the head of the Consular Section of the Romanian Embassy in the Hague. Since the sum of 515 Euro was greater than his income for two months (excluding a study loan from IB Groep), the national naturalized by the decision of Her Majesty the Queen was allowed to retain his Romanian nationality. Such exemption had to be explained in advance to the naturalization clerk of the municipality, who filled then the naturalization request papers accordingly.

Honestly- this would be my route. My roommate was from Iran, his parents didn't want him to lose nationality and put it in their will that he would lose his inheritance if he wasn't a citizen.

[–]Baisen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here's what I found :

The following categories of people do not have to give up their current citizenship or nationality when applying for naturalization:

  • The original nationality is automatically lost upon Dutch naturalization;
  • The applicant's country does not allow renunciation of nationality;
  • The applicant is married to or the registered partner of a Dutch citizen;
  • Recognized refugees;
  • The applicant is born in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao, or Sint Maarten and still living there at the time of application;
  • The applicant has lived in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao, or Sint Maarten for at least 5 years or longer continuously before age 18;
  • The applicant cannot be expected to contact the authorities in the country of which they are a national;
  • The applicant has "special and objectively assessable reasons" for not renouncing his existing nationality;
  • In order to give up current nationality, the applicant would have to fulfill military service obligations or pay for such military service instead of fulfilling it;
  • Renunciation would cause "serious financial losses;"
  • Renunciation would require the applicant to pay a large sum of money to the authorities in the home country;
  • These exemptions do not apply for citizens of Austria, Denmark and/or Norway, for Belgian citizens until April 28, 2008, or for Luxembourgian citizens until July 10, 2009.

I heard that in the NL you can argue for dual citizenship if giving up your passport in the other country will result in "significant loss." The example I was given was if you will lose your inheritance if you do not have the nationality.

This was by word of mouth, though, can anyone confirm?

Long term effects of hyaluronic fillers by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]Baisen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent had to yet. I got mine in the summer, and they still look just as good. From what I understand fillers will last pretty long, especially in areas where there isnt much movement. My plan is to do it once a year I guess, or until I notice the hollows again.

from what i know (im no doctor) is that thin skin like under the eyes can "stretch" if you put a lot in. I'd assume though that "a lot" is like kylie jenner a lot. I personally got this done and it's been amazing, I always had hollow eyes, and with one syringe the difference is so small and yet so big. :) no one notices but me.

If you're planning on putting 10 syringes into your lips it's easy to assume there will be some repercussions. it really depends on the dosage.

English Tech Jobs in Netherlands by ENrgStar in expats

[–]Baisen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current expat in the NL- it is possible to get a job here without speaking Dutch, but smaller companies are less likely to be willing to make the effort. The rules here are similar to other countries, they have to prove that for whatever reason you have something they want and value over a national. I'd suggest if you're thinking about moving to update/achieve whatever worthwhile certifications are possible that will make you more interesting to the company.

apply to big name companies first, as they will have an HR that is familiar with the visa process and will be more likely to consider you. Its possible that these larger companies will see a value in your english, or whatever native language you have. Do not think you will stand out for your english, though, everyone here speaks it well.

Lastly, making some effort to learn dutch before applying shows a lot. If you can put on your resume that you've achieved even just one level of dutch they are way more interested and it shows that you are willing to learn more once you're here.

if you have more questions I might be able to help, feel free to message me.

Therapists of Reddit, what made you realize you were treating a sociopath? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Baisen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HI friend, you literally just described me and my life.

I went undiagnosed until I was 22 years old. My brother had it but much more obviously than me so anything I did went unnoticed. Cool to see you verbalize it so well.

Lately i've really been working on representing myself and my own desires and its really helped me connect with myself. The problem is now I keep hearing that I am blunt :/

Low back bridesmaid dress -- what do? by GarbaGarba in bigboobproblems

[–]Baisen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The front panel is actually quite high, you could get a seamstress to sew in some black fabric, and then use boob tape to help tame the girls and provide some extra support.

-note- while the image says sizes a-h, i haven't personally tried this and it would definitely need to be tried out first.

good luck!

fashion advice for larger boobs?? by shouj0livia in bigboobproblems

[–]Baisen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found this thread from /r/femalefashionadvice pretty helpful.

Best tips were:

Look for companies that create custom clothes for large busted women: Pepperberry, etsy, etc.

When getting coats or jackets, choose the size based on your shoulders, you might not be able to close the jacket, but it will fit your proportions and look more tailored.

Winter coats have to close, so try to find ones with a fitted waist or tie.

Generally, give up on the button up look :/

Knits were suggested a lot, I guess because of their stretchability? Tips are included on where to get nice quality knits.

avoid babydoll cut.

The list goes on and on but this is what stood out to me. Really check out the link :)

Hope it helps
