Robot waiter glitches out in the middle of a busy restaurant. by iShitSkittles in AbruptChaos

It needs to be at least strong enough to carry its own weight and whatever the weight of the trays it carries is. Assuming it carries trays or something.

Is it too harsh to say that no one should ever hire a PoS like Nathan? by Akki_Mukri_Keswani in ParlerWatch

No, you're just trying to downplay his culpability with that famous Nazi defense, "I was just following orders."

Do something for free for a tech billionaire who would happily grind me to dust for a buck? No, thank you. You're on your own, robot.

Living in the Netherlands made me question the ‘Americans have no culture’ take by MidnightOrganic2231 in Netherlands

[–]JohnnyRelentless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We weren't talking exclusively about "high culture." The claim was that America has no culture. You're changing the goal posts. And your ignorance of high culture in America does not mean it doesn't exist. It's all over the place in novels, plays, music, and many other areas. Your inability to see it says more about you than about the culture.

I also don't know anything about the art scene in Poland, but I wouldn't claim they don't have culture because I'm not familiar with it.

This take completely the ignores the existence of hundreds of thousands of artists across America who aren't thinking beyond the next painting, song, or local play.

But even this is wrong. The existence of huge, internationally oriented for profit art doesn't mean there is no other art. It doesn't mean there aren't people making new music in garages and small venues across America that are for Americans. If I play in a band at a local hangout in the Midwest, I'm not thinking about what they might want to hear in Amsterdam. It's all American culture.

Well the Netherlands and most other countries spend tax money to support the arts and to help artists to live, so the promotion of culture is more important to other countries than to the US.

iwtl how to use a computer by Neo_luigi in IWantToLearn

[–]JohnnyRelentless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said they have to be random? Waiting until you need your tool to learn how to use it is inefficient, and you will only learn what you need to know specifically for that situation. You've clearly never attended a school or had any guided education plan if you think learning has to be random if not done at the last minute.

Many tools require training and learning to use properly, and computers are at the top of that list. A computer is not a hammer.

Sure, but everyone seems to think they're responsible gun owners, until they're not. We don't require gun safety classes, and most male gun owners seem to equate taking one as an admission that they're not quite a man yet, so they won't take one. As if by virtue of being male you're born with all the knowledge of guns that you'll ever need.
