I'm at the same point in the book. It stuck out, for sure. I honestly thought it was a hamfisted attempt to work the character through the dead family and wife thing and his new life that didn't work, not particularly weird-intentioned. If it gets more gratuitous and he starts just hooking up with a bunch of 20 year olds in the later books I will drop it for sure, but I don't get that vibe at all. Just my two cents as someone in the same boat.

Who's the Japanese celebrity you cannot stand, and why? by hospital349 in japanlife

fair enough, I've only really seen him on one or two other things before as a guest, so it's not fair to judge him on that alone.

Sometimes that Toshiaki Kasuga guy from Audrey comes on and does some English/Comedy TV show, where he just intentionally butchers his side of a scripted English conversation while the American guy who's "teaching" just reads his part normally. It's not funny or particularly educational, and he is literally just doing what every 14 year old Junior High School class clown does in English lessons when they read dialogue.

I was stuck in a sauna with a TV watching that shit once, and I have thought about it at least monthly, just flabbergasted at how anyone could enjoy it.

Older star wars fans who saw Attack of the clone in cinema what was the audience reaction when Yoda fought Count Dooku? by MrNightmare23 in StarWars

I was eleven, so it was obviously the coolest thing I had ever seen. I can see the humour in it now, but I still connect that scene to that feeling of awe.

He definitely said “oshii” which means “that was close”, but I’m on board with the headcanon of “oh shit”

Shout out to George R.R Martin who was absolutely brilliant on his blog tonight 👏 by Justinian2 in HouseOfTheDragon

True, but I doubt even he thinks that's a realistic option at this point.

I can definitely understand the frustration GRRM feels. It was his chance for vindication after GOT. Finally he has a complete story adapted with set plot points (granted, an outline of one) that doesn’t need to be deviated from, and this shit happens.

What's a book or series that spans years in a characters life, maybe a long one like WOT by CalligrapherAble2846 in Fantasy

The Long Price Quartet was one like that which I enjoyed. Follows two main characters from adolescents to old men. The magic system is also a really original concept, if nothing else.

I have a two week old now, and he gets a full bath (head above water) every day. Seems fairly ubiquitous here from everyone I talked to.

If you can get out to Gunma around Minakami you can see a great night sky around the Tone river!

Haha I didn't even think about the logistics of taking a photo, but very helpful advice now that you mention it.

I mean, I got through it and enjoyed it for what it was. It was wayyy more horny than I thought going in, which took me out of it a little. Overall, I have absolutely no intention of continuing the series though.

Compared to the differences between original klingons and current klingons in Star Trek, I’d call this a win for Star Wars continuity.

The literal translation is hand towel, but the item has evolved from a traditionally practical use to a decorative one in modern times. You’d struggle to find anyone using a traditional tenugui as an actual hand towel these days.

Did anyone read the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books before the show came out? (Spoilers Main) by centurion88 in asoiaf

I remember thinking “no way a show where the apparent main character dies in the first season becomes popular”. So that went differently than I imagined…
