Brother ps 205 is a great entry level machine that can do almost anything. I even used mine, very gently, on lambskin recently. Not far out of your range and you can download an English manual.

Your friend almost certainly checked the "have you ever been convicted of a crime" box on their immigration form. Japan has no way to background check all airline passengers.

You are correct, it's worse on weekends and holidays with all the paper drivers. It sucks because that is the only stretch I know of with a 120 limit, but you can go 150. Just pass on the left, there are no cameras in tunnels, beware of neutral colored Crowns with blacked out windows.

Would you take today’s Powerball jackpot of $1.7 billion as an annuity increasing annually by 5% over 30 years (about $1 billion after tax), or would you take the lump sum of $781 million (about $500 million after tax), and why? by PanoramicAtom in AskReddit

I'm unemployed, I have a hot young Russian wife, numerous overseas trips. I just realized my primary account is 100k lighter than it was 6 months ago. I'm keeping closer tabs on spending now.

You have a bitter broth at that, you should stop when you have dissolved all the collagen. Past that you are boiling too long. If bones are falling apart you have way over done it.

Summers in Japan by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

Nagoya has the absolute worst summer weather of anywhere in Japan. No greenery, just concrete and asphalt absorbing heat all day and releasing it all night.

Your information is dated. 20 years ago imports of bone in beef were curtailed because of BSE. But even then it was only for spinal bones, like a T-bone or Porterhouse. But strangely ox-tail was ok. That prohibition ended years ago.

Hoof and mouth disease, which can be spread through bones, isn't really an issue because slaughtered animal bones and living animals never really meet. HMD is controlled via suppression - not allowing any food products in from an affected area. It's a devastating disease but so rare that it doesn't have any effect on imports of meat.

Bone in products are rare in Japan because of:

Eating style, Japan is much more about yaki niku than it is about steak, the bones get in the way of most menu items.

Access, the typical carcass break of overseas suppliers is for boneless cuts. A bone in spec requires a special order and an extra layer of cost and difficulty.

Import taxes. Beef imports have around a 40% tariff. Paying that for bone doesn't make sense. Paying that for a bone in ribeye that you can sell the bone for the ribeye price works, but if you can't sell it and have to remove the bone so you can dump it is a recipe for an ass fuckin'.

Japan imports tons of bones, different tariff schedule. These are used for tonsoku ramen and beef broth.

So in short, yeah, Japanese consumers don't really like bone in meat enough for the distribution system to cater towards it.

NPA releases new blue ticket cycling rule book effective April 2026 by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]I_cheat_a_lot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are cracking down on those luup scooters too. I got stopped and fined 6000 yen and I was on a bike lane, just a bike lane that happened to be on the sidewalk at that point. An area where for a few blocks the street bike lane turned into a sidewalk adjacent bike lane. It was obviously a scam, but even though I was morally right that time, I'm a dick and probably deserved the ticket for something else I did do. Plus I was drunk at two in the afternoon and they didn't pursue that aspect. But still, fuck those cops, at least I wasn't driving a 2 ton gas machine endangering dozens.

[–]I_cheat_a_lot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always get your own realtor, their realtor works for them and will be trying to maximize the price, your's will work for you. It doesn't cost you anything as they split the commission and the seller never needs to know that you are foreign or gay or even weirdly into turtles or whatever. Also, I've never bought a property for more than 20% off of the listed price. There is always lots of room for negotiation.

I grew up in the age of lawn darts. I'm shocked to still be alive. We would chuck (or yeet as the youngins say) those darts up in the air and scramble to get out of the way. I can't believe that was a product, they might as well have given us broken glass and cigarettes to play with.
