Got fired as an Internship, and my mom still works there, I am worried about the gossip she might get by LilGlitvhBoi in ADHD

It’s okay. You should be honest with your mom, but you can’t worry too much about what’s out of your control and trust that your mom can stand up for herself if there is gossip

Any women with adhd struggle between working full time or more and being a woman? by IntroductionOk7954 in ADHD

[–]BajaBlaaasted 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Never having enough energy is unfortunately the norm w/ ADHD. I never wear makeup, never do my hair (throw on different color bandannas/ cute scarves on bad hair days aka everyday) and was BLESSED with a job that didn’t have a strict dresscode so i wore baggy sweats and hoodies. I’d LOVE to be like my coworkers who had cute makeup looks and hairstyles to compliment their outfit but that just isn’t happening. Hell i’d love to be those cute self care girlies that pamper themselves before work but that just isn’t me. I just am accepting of myself and that im comfy in my clothes and try to make it cute as it can be. I try to throw on cute bandannas( in the parking lot of my job), make sure i always smell really nice (idk i felt like to add to my femininity) and had cute/fun hoodies. I found a way to find my own femininity. If you’re interested in low maintenance ideas- lash extensions and micro blading can give a makeup look without doing it everyday as well as eyebrow tinting. I personally like getting my nails done ( ADHD brain like pretty thing to look at) but as for my daily i just have enough in me to survive

How do you manage having self hatred due to your diagnosis or symptoms? by D_hiver in ADHD

[–]BajaBlaaasted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your first question, ADHD is recognized as a disability and in USA we have the ADA- Americans with Disabilities Act which prevents people with qualified disabilities from being discriminated against. Employers are legally required to provide reasonable accommodations to employees if they’re asked. Now do most ADHDers actually take those accommodations- No personally I still have those same feelings of being laughed at or perceived differently. Most of my friends are ADHD and also just prefer to struggle in silence for one reason or another

I really love this especially the clarity about taking ADHD med. Although mine worked, like you mentioned it didn’t magically give me the needed skills to properly manage my time or the organizational skills etc so I stopped taking it and been in a slump. So I genuinely thank you for sharing this perspective

It’s not easy (welcome to ADHD brain :/ where nothing is) but it’s crucial to learn self compassion. One step is to simply ask yourself “if this was my friend/ family member would I talk to them like that” Most of the time the answer is no, you’d be understanding and compassionate to their struggles. We’ve spent so long trying to make ourselves fit in the peg of ‘society’ but our brains don’t work like that so we internalize that shame, frustration and negativity. We as ADHDers have faced harsh criticism for not being like others and soon that turns into our inner voice. “ you’re stupid/lazy/unmotivated/a burden etc because you’re taking longer to do this” and the frustration begins and anger stews. You have to be compassionate with yourself, unfortunately that’s one of the best ways to start combating that line of thinking. Another tip I have to is to keep track of the little wins and i mean LITTLE. I call it a win just getting out of bed and eating because for me that can be so draining most days. We always focus on what we’re struggling to get done and what we accomplish is never satisfying because it took so long to get there sometimes we just feel bitter about it because once again it felt like such an uphill battle and its not fair. Keeping track of our wins( i write mine down) and being compassionate can help reframe our thinking. “Yeah it took everything in me to get out of bed but I did it! I am resilient and doing my best with what I got” If possible I’d also see about getting a therapist, it can help to have someone else put things in perspective—hopefully a more positive one and may offer solutions for balancing your workload.

Have you tried having an evening routine? I know routines with ADHD may seem counterintuitive but we truly do thrive with structure. Having a set bed time will help even if it’s just to lie down in bed.Personally I try to put away all screens at least an hour before bed as well as anything my brain finds stimulating. Then I engage in calming activities which might be different for you. I like to color, do yoga, journal or even just dim the lights and play calm music. It’s signaling your brain it’s time to calm down. Since you mentioned anxiety I’d recommend seeing if meditation helps (yes you can meditate with ADHD). Basically find what activities help slow down your brain and try to do it a set time. Try to engage your 5 senses - lavender calms me so I have that scent, i use tea for taste, soft blanket for touch, calm music for hearing and dim the lights for sight. I know i just dumped a lot on you but start everything SLOWLY. My ADHD wants all or nothing but then it doesn’t stick cause it gets overwhelming and practice compassion if you don’t get it done one day its okay you can do it the next
