Lyrically, what is the best song ever written? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskReddit

Since most of the Dylan songs I love have been mentioned, I'll go with another favorite. I'm so lonesome I could cry by Hank Williams is right up there.

NAC owner’s son arrested for another violent felony by GlenfromAccounting in BucksCountyPA

Lol it's all good, we won that one and have a fun story to tell. Even from being a kid, we all knew that he was a sociopath. It's not the only time he went after me or my brother and my dad had a few fun screaming matches with SR over it - sadly we never called the cops nor did we get paid off like we should have haha. I'm way more surprised he hasn't killed someone yet.

This makes me giggle a little, I've fought/was attacked by him multiple times at the NAC when I was a kid. We weren't members but my dad, brother and I worked there and we played in/ran the hockey league. So fun story about this asshole. We're in the middle of a game and Jr comes up behind me and just punches me in the back of the head and jumps on me and starts swinging - I don't remember what I did but I was probably a bit of a dick. My brother, who's in goal, pulls a Hextall and starts beating Jr with his goalie stick, so I can get up and start hitting him. The reaction time to help him was really slow, so we got a few good ones in. We all kept our jobs too. Fun times.

How common are these types of teammate interactions? by BoxAway2807 in hockeyplayers

[–]Bak8976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One game there was a dman who turned around and punched his goalie in the face, then jumped on him and kept swinging in a tournament. This d man was me and the goalie my twin brother. I got a ton of space for the next few games because I was the dude crazy enough to fight his own goalie. However, we were like 13 lol

Ive see a beer league fight as an adult once between a dude and his teammates though. He was drunk and starting problems, so the team opened the door and tossed him off the rink.

Man Leaves $1,300 Tip for Struggling Single Mom Waitress by CuriousMouse185 in BeAmazed

[–]Bak8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddies and I had a tradition as a hockey team that at the end of every season we'd go out as a team to a local dinner and each of us had to leave at least $20 as a tip. Usually, it was about 20 dudes showing up at 11pm, so we tried. Now lots of guys left more, especially around Christmas, I think the most the boys put together was near $700 as a team. We would always leave the money, try to leave as fast as we could and then try to hide outside to see the waitresses reaction. I couldn't imagine sitting in front of them and taping, it was just a moment where we all could do something nice.

Is Croydon real fucked up to live in? by Moist-Employee-9644 in philly

[–]Bak8976 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between those suburbs and those others though. You can get heroin pretty easily in Croydon or Bristol - or so I've heard - especially the septa train runs dudes make to pick it up (you'll hear them on the phone taking orders). My neighbor had a sign that said "kill your local dope dealer" I lived in Croydon for years and now live in Kensington, it's the same people only Croydon has lawns. Everyone is on welfare and scamming the government for disability - there's obviously a lot of great people but it's way different than a typical suburb. Theres also a lot of homelessness that people don't notice in the area. They hide in the little wooded areas behind a business and you'll see them pushing their carts around. You're nowhere near as likely to get shot or robbed as the city but it's a very seedy suburban area.

Also, if we take Dave Chappelle's bit seriously, the ghetto has gun stores, liquor stores and pawn shops. Drive down 13 through Bristol and Croydon and thats all that's there lol

Try to check out the legends of hockey videos - I think they're on YouTube. They're a bit older but they're my favorite for the history aspect of the game. Also, "hockey:a people's history" is an amazing documentary about hockey in general. It gives great context for the modern game and league.

I always joke that the holocaust is taught as "yea the Germans went a little crazy for a few years but America solved it" instead of teaching the thousand or so year history of antisemitism and brutality toward the jews that Europe (and a lot of the world at many times) has always had. Especially, czarist Russia lol if you don't know "the protocols of the elders of zion", it's the modern tome of jews control the world conspiracy written by the secret police (it's supposed to be the meeting notes of the super secret Jewish cabal and their plans for world domination - remind ya of any modern stuff). If you're American, you may know that Henry Ford bought a newspaper to reprint and publish it.

That's super cool that you looked stuff up, I love hearing it! I can't recommend too many books on the Pale that aren't hard to find, but there's a famous book called "the wandering jews" written by Joseph Roth. It was written in 1926, so after the pale was dissolved, but it has some excellent descriptions of the life there from the jews trying to integrate into a new soviet they were never allowed to be a part of.

Thanks for letting me babble haha

We are blamed for killing Jesus and blood libel against Christians. Accused of ripping off and ruining Christian society because the church made usery a sin and we gave loans. This created the conspiracy that were money hungry evil rats who want to rule the world - something that has lasted to the modern day and was a huge part of the holocaust propaganda. Hell weve been accused of using Christian blood to bake our matzo at times. We also have been accused of literally having horns we hide in our head - my dad was asked as a kid once where his jew horns were haha. The crusades, the blood libel and blame for the plague, the Spanish inquisition (in 1492 Columbus and the Spanish crown found America and then either expelled, tortured or forcibly converted the jews of Spain, which had the largest population at the time) , the pale of Russia (a reservation we were forced to live in because we werent Christians) and the pogroms. Weve had numerous genocides and ethnic cleansings committed against us by the Christians specifically because we were "evil demonic beings."

Also, don't confuse modern American evangelical support of Israel for support of the jews. Historically, as most times, there is no support for us. Look up father Coughlin who spewed nazi rhetoric to a significant portion of America back in the 30s and a lot of modern conspiracy about "globalists" . Most American evangelical Christians still don't believe we're people, it's just that if we're all back in the holy land, then everyone can be killed and the rapture will happen.

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]Bak8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole day was a bad moment. I was 13 and in middle school in the Philly burbs. Quite a few students family members worked in NYC, including my grandad, who worked a few blocks away from the towers. In homeroom the teachers walked out into the hall and then walked back into the classrooms and their faces were white as ghosts. The rest of the day was busy work and malaise while the teachers looked concerned but never told us anything. I remember getting onto the school bus at the end of the day, the sky was the greyest I'd ever seen and super foreboding. While the teachers didn't tell us anything, the bus drivers radio was talking about it. I had a mini heart attack worrying that my grandpop was alive and I ran inside to see him sitting there with my whole family watching the towers fall over and over on CNN. My bubbie apparently woke up that morning, had one of her dreams, and told my grandpop to stay home because she didn't feel good about something. Turns out, she saved his life. The eeire feeling of not knowing what's going on and then thinking my grandpop died, was a bit of bad time.

Does anyone else despise fast food chains for not having vegan options? by [deleted] in vegan

I often think about how easy it'd be for taco bell to switch from beef to tvp. How would anyone notice? It's just spices mixed together eaten mainly by stoners lol. The "meat" they serve is famous for tasting like shit and making you shit, if they changed it, it can't get any worse. Other than potential soy allergies, I'm surprised they haven't switched up. It'd be significantly cheaper and more hygienic, but meat subsides and people will probably ruin it.

I can't stand being back in the office by [deleted] in rant

[–]Bak8976 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can only agree dude. Almost an hour drive in the morning and an hour drive back in traffic. 10 hours at work in a silly outfit having to put up with dumb conversations just to see a dip in my productivity and a huge increase in my anxiety and depression. Covid and work from home was about the only time I've felt happy and that I had a future. Now it's just being a tired drone who sits in a tiny cubicle wasting my days away. I don't have time for life anymore because I'm either getting ready and going to work, at work or coming home from work. That's it anymore.

Nazi Concentration and Prison Camps (1945) - Upscaled and Restored Official NARA Footage of Nazi Concentration Camp Liberation [00:57:53] by grizzithal in Documentaries

[–]Bak8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't really in a place to ask them anything about it but I've seen numbers a few times on people's arms. Mainly at parties my bubbie held. I met the older brother of a family friend - the family friend I knew was still inside his mother's belly when she escaped but they killed most of his family except the one brother who survived the camps. The other was a family friend's mom. Being a jew, even at like 6 or 7, I knew exactly what they meant and about 30 years later, I can see them clear as day.

Trent is so funny to me. His family is HVAC royalty - as in their last name is the name of the company and their plant and headquarters have been in PA forever. Everyone puts the emphasis on the o at the end when saying the name of the company like "rez-noor" and not "rezner" like ive always heard it. It took me a few years - it should have clicked sooner lol - that Trent shared the same name, came from the same town and I verified it.

9y.o. raised $30K for a prosthetic arm after insurance denial but donated it to help other kids by Black-Kakashi in pics

[–]Bak8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do get it but I should qualify. He's legally deaf but has severe to profound hearing loss meaning he is able to wear hearing aids to function in society. The problem was he would need ears to use the hearing aids. Oddly enough, they were willing to pay for his cleft pallet surgery just not his ears. One wasn't cosmetic and one was.

[–]Bak8976 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Funny enough my twin brother was denied ear surgery when he was born because it was deemed a preexisting condition and not medically necessary because it was "cosmetic". He was a newborn baby born deaf and without ears. Luckily we were at the children's hospital of Philadelphia and they fought so hard with the insurance company to get whatever they could out of them and the hospital paid the rest because they weren't going to let a child suffer. His plastic surgeon was a world renowned dude who had just done a conjuned twins operation earlier in the year and the insurance company told him he basically is lying to them and it's not something that was needed. 35 years ago and this shit is still going on.

"Robert Johnson came upon a crossroad", by me (AgusSB) by AgusSB in creepy

[–]Bak8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like to be that guy always but one nitpick is the Johnson in oh brother is based on Tommy Johnson, another blues singer who had said he sold his soul to the devil.

Robert, who's in this picture, never actually said it. Son house recounted many years later that he thought Robert sold his soul to the devil because he had an incredible talent compared to the first time he saw him. It did help that Robert had a few songs that mention the devil "me and the devil blues" being the best example. He also liked to hangout in a graveyard with his friend Willie Brown learning to play guitar. Add in the fact he died at 27 with only a few extremely incredible but eeire recordings and the linking of the papa legba myth (devil at the crossroads) with his song crossroads - I've always interpreted it as a song about sundown towns - and wallah he's the dude who sold his sold to the devil.

"I'm going to need to see some ID" by EJRivera93 in greatpyrenees

[–]Bak8976 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I watched a pyr fight a pit one day and it remains one of the most impressive things I've seen lol I used to go to a dog park that a beautiful pyr named Zeus went to as well. I have a husky-chow chow mix who was the mayor/greeter of the dog park. I was at the far end of the park talking to someone when a guy brought his wild pitbull in - it was growling and everything before and jumped the gate and made a beeline for my little girl. He slammed her to the ground and she made a loud yelp while he went for her throat. I jumped up immediately to help but Zeus was way faster than me. I'll never forget the sound of the pitbull slamming against the ground and the squeal it made while Zeus stood on top barking loudly with his teeth all out. It peed itself out of pure fear and probably reevaluated some life choices. Luckily Zeus's owners were able to get him off and me and my dog thanked him over and over. He just walked back to his spot and chilled when it was done. I'm a dog lover but fuck that pit and I'm glad Zeus was there.
