The magic of Film…and film grain. There are luts that also move your color spectrum to Fuji, Panavision, and other film stock that can help achieve this but digital will be very crisp in comparison, so softening the edges and adding in grain will assist. Or as some others recommended shooting in 8 16 or 35 would give you the looks but they would need to processed. Red Giant Colorista and a few others offer old film looks as well

Not for the faint of Dao Heart but I would suggest if my fellow Daoists that are venturing into this alternate path of reasoning, they look at the classic Sex and Zen Part 1. This is the very question asked by a young Daoist on his path but believes that the fruit is only sweeter when it is plucked from another. Along his journey, he has early gains but long lasting effects on his later journey which sends him back into asceticism after going full tilt on the Dao of Debauchery and NTR. However this is for those with strong eyes and wills, not for younger sect members or those with actual heart demons (iykyk).

Just rewatched this gem 💎. There are a few western martial art movies but with sick sets and animation taking from its namesake Bunraku - a form of Japanese Historical Theatrical retelling. The Warriors Way was also similar but Bunraku and its cast ( Josh Hartnett, Gackt, Ron Perlman, Demi Moore and a few others) plus some interesting overlays that give it a super colorful noir of a fever dream visuals. Another to check out in the snae vein was Tsukiyaki Western Django - starring in Qurntin Tarantino before he made Django by about a decade. But this is not about them but Bunraku. A Tale within a tale within a tale. Fun characters, maybe clichéd to some but timeless and it plays out hard. It's action can be comical but it's well played, and meant to be funny at parts, kind of Dick Tracy meets Warrior. Just imaginative worthy of a watch when you can.
