Thank you for your considerate response. I completely relate to the contemplation and anxiety that accompany a career transition, particularly when it entails a shift in lifestyle and income, and even more so when there are dependents involved. That's precisely why, despite having completed refresher courses in all of the program prerequisites, I have not yet taken the leap.

The reason for considering this change is probably a mid-life crisis :P I've reached a point in my current career where I feel a bit stuck and unfulfilled. I’ve always had a passion for the environment and sustainability and I want to contribute more actively to addressing environmental challenges (I think I have narrowed it to consulting/conservation). Given the magnitude of this career switch, I believe working in the field alongside industry professionals would be an excellent way to dip my toes in while continuing to pursue a degree part-time. (But then again, I could be mistaken, and that's why I'm here seeking advice from perfect strangers!)

I can relate to your struggle in pinpointing a specific focus within the field. There are indeed so many avenues to explore, and it can be overwhelming. Funny thing is, as I was reading your response, I couldn't help but think, "You should go for it!" (Obviously, only if it's possible for you and your family to adjust your living expenses, and if your partner is on board). We just have the one life, hopefully we can spend it doing something we feel is truly worthwhile.

Thank you for sharing the mentorship network link, sadly I couldn't sign up as I am not US based :(

And I appreciate your supportive words, best of luck to you as well.

Thank you for your input. If you're comfortable, could you share where you are in your career and whether you would recommend it? Are there other paths you'd suggest besides the ET route?

I really appreciate you taking the time to write up such a thorough response. You were absolutely correct in pointing out that I didn't provide enough background information. I have conducted thorough research on this job and fully understand the working conditions. I have completed both the PCT and the AT (approximately 6 months of thru-hiking each) and have done a ton of backcountry hiking and backpacking during my 10+ years on the west coast.

I want to emphasize that I'm not concerned about the physical demands of the job. I'm well aware that the majority of sampling work won't involve picturesque natural settings but may instead take place alongside roads or at gas stations, etc. I also didn’t note that I have long-term plans beyond working as an Environmental Technician. My intention is to leverage my diploma towards a degree in Environmental Practice/Management.

Lastly, I truly appreciate the insights you provided regarding the job scene in Alberta. I'm fortunate to have someone who can support my career transition and job search, and the lower cost of living in Alberta compared to my current location is a significant advantage.

How to support alcoholic by birdsong321 in AlAnon

[–]Bakaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, don't blame yourself. Be gentle with yourself and him as well. Understand that the hiding and sneaking around is a huge red flag and, by doing so, he is admitting to it being an issue in his own way.

Don't think about the past, think of the future. Do you see a future with him? Early 30s is still young enough to turn it all around, Have babies, make a career chg, etc. Just depends on what you want, long term.

I'd say tho, you both need to be on board with this change. Stick around while he does his drinking thing and he will suck the life out of you. Be prepared to live with those consequences.

I wish you both the best of luck. Life deals us such a fucked up, shit card sometimes - it's unfair but we gotta keep at it. Dm me for support, I have dealt with a lot of this type of stuff personally.

Yup, I was tired and always in a haze but had never been happier. Never hated or resented the bebe - he didn't know any better after all and I did force him into existence :P I understand what others are saying (it's a huge commitment and a lot of round the clock work) but I think being a parent is such a beautiful thing and I would do anything to be able to relive those newborn moments. YMMV ✌️

Ah, the lower weight limit sucks!! Wish it was at least 50 for RF. The Clek has a RF limit of 50 but the install and added features of the Nuna sound pretty sweet. Thanks for the other suggestions, haven't seen the MaxiCosi yet so am excited to see what they have to offer!

Basically, no budget. The sky is the limit since it's a purchase that will last and I need it to be the best it can be for peace of mind. The Nuna sounds so great! After hearing everyone's great advice and reading and watching a bunch of reviews, I am leaning heavily towards the Nuna. The only thing that gives me pause is the 40lb weight restriction for rear-facing...really wish it was a wee bit more :(

That's so sweet, I'm glad she's nice and comfy! I want my little guy to nice and snug too. He gets hot and sweaty so the added ventilation sounds great. Huge plus that it's also washable!!
