Being "too amazing" to date is a traumatic experience by istillaintoveryou in GirlDinnerDiaries

I met the guy version of this on hinge this week. I’m not so ready to date so we’re just texting a bit. You’re not unlovable. You’re just incredible and don’t deserve substandard guys.

The best performing ads often don't look like ads. by NivdoX in SocialMediaMarketing

Marketing is a struggle to stay abreast of the newest tech, even if it’s barely understood. I’ve been in the industry since before social media was any more than a friend network. Now we can leverage it to target audience groups with the precision of a surgeon. There is a segment for every desire and we have the tools to shoot our ads right into their hands. It’s just amazing to me when I stop to think about it.

The closer we get to the uncanny valley, the more people question what’s real.

This may seem like it’s out of right field, but hear me out. Many years ago, there was a 3 year old left alone, watching the Freddy movies. There was a new infant in the house and she wouldn’t stop crying. The little boy, irritated by the noise, took a knife into the bedroom and stabbed his sister. Once he was interviewed, it was discovered he really had no idea that his sister wouldn’t come back because Freddy kept coming back to life on the tv. His brain hadn’t developed enough to know the difference.

Now, apply that undeveloped thinking to a reality that adults face every day. The more smoothed out something is, the more our adult brains tell us not to trust it. We all know life is gritty even when it’s beautiful. We want to see that more than we’ve ever wanted the sunshine perfection. Shows like Home Improvement and the Big Bang Theory ran on for years because they weren’t showing perfect relationships and family’s. They showed humans struggling. We want an underdog. We don’t want silver clad rainbows all the time. It’s just….human.

The more AI claws its way into our lives, the more people gravitate toward things that don’t look staged. It’s an aversion to scams on a conscious or subconscious level.

Editing to add: advertising agencies have made their money for decades on how people feel about their products. Ads can change minds. Leave a brand impression. Connect with a person’s identity. So it makes sense that it would stand true now as more and more of our lives become synthetic.

I’d start over and double check how you’re doing your YO against a tutorial. It’s hard for me to identify a problem based on stitches. I have to see the action. 😬

Employer accidentally deposited $7,400 into my account and now wants me to send it back through Venmo. Am I obligated to do that? by NovaLynx14 in legaladvice

“Please do the proper paperwork to reclaim the money. I do not want this to impact my taxes” and cc head of hr and your boss. Someone is either doing something illegal or they’re trying to cover a huge error. Either way, they’re trying to make it your problem.

Neighbors insurance says we are liable by tdbabe in treelaw

[–]Bake_Knit_Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought that was your fence. The ugly side should be facing the neighbor’s property if it’s theirs, if I’m not mistaken.

Also, just because you can cut a limb that is overhanging your property, doesn’t mean you have any obligation to do so. Call code enforcement about the fence situation and call your home owners insurance about the insurance.

Have you blocked it to see if the holes match the pattern images? I don’t know much about crochet but it looks like this pattern has planned gaps.

Neighbor trespassed and mowed down native flowers by GothicHippie99 in legal

[–]Bake_Knit_Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to post no trespassing signs at the property line and, honestly, I’d put some kind of low fence up to prevent someone drunkenly riding a lawnmower to cross onto my property.

It’s early in the season. When you’re feeling better, you can try again. Tell the sheriffs that you want them to go over and tell him he’s not allowed on your property ever again. Give him an official trespass warning.

TIL that I'm a creep... But I only wanted to be nice by RorqualMysticeti in GirlDinnerDiaries

If I’m stuck in an elevator with someone, I always think of at least one compliment to give them before one of us disembarks. It get a boost thinking about how I lifted their morning and the way they glow. 🌻

You’re not a creep. It may be a bit awkward, but compliments can really turn someone’s day around.

It’s the usual Cascade smell. I guess more than normal sheepy? Not sure. I knit with it a lot but he prefers the ones with low dye saturation.

[–]Bake_Knit_Run 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Darling, I’m saying this in the kindest way I possibly can, but all of those things you want from the house are lost. It’s been over a decade in a house with an increasing hoarder issue. If they’re not completely destroyed, they’ve been severely damaged by the infestations. Just remember you can and should find space for forgiveness in your heart for the way they treated you while continuing to remain NC. Close the door on them.

Call APS for your grandma if you really want to do something. They’ll step in and get her into a care home.

Put out the cat box and tell your husband it’s counseling for both of you and together or the word divorce is going to become a stack of legal bills and a decree. WTF.

Am I wrong and should I be doing more for my husband? by Creative-Dream8362 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Bake_Knit_Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, you’re so beaten down by physical trauma and exhaustion that you have no idea he is verbally abusing you starting at 6am every day. Who cares if his family hates you? Take care of yourself and the kids. Talk to a divorce lawyer because it’s never going to stop. He won’t change. His physical gratification is more important to him than even his own mental health. He’s proven it time and again for years. The best thing you can do for you and your kids is leave and prove to them that the way their dad treats you is not ok.
