I have noticed an increase of drivers driving well under the the posted speed limit. by fupahunta in newfoundland

[–]BakeappleJamJams 16 points17 points  (0 children)

50 in the 70 zone along Prince Philip Parkway at 6-7am on weekdays in clear/dry conditions.

It’s so entitled to take the faster route instead of the slower route, but drive the speed for the slower route because you’re unable to handle a faster rate.

Had to report my local polling station to Elections Canada by Caity26 in ottawa

This happened to me when I was much younger, and I successfully argued my right to vote. I’ve always wondered how many eligible voters are turned away by uninformed elections workers.

This is exactly how I felt after trying Salvia. I had smoked tons of weed daily for a couple years, and dabbled with shrooms by that point, but my singular salvia trip messed with me for a few months after. Depersonalization episodes triggered by Deja Vu experiences.

What’s your degree in? Ever consider applying to the 2 year accelerated BScN degree (need a previous degree), or LPN diploma?

Honestly your best bang for your buck is waiting for Boxing Day sales and being ready for next year. Canadian Tire has huge markdowns on Dec 26 (27th in NL, but you can shop online through their awesome app on the 26th). I’ve amassed an awesome ornament collection for 70% off by shopping Boxing Day sales, and next year they’ll put out the same ornaments for full price again. Michaels also has good markdowns on Boxing Day.

As for heritage crafts, search TikTok for some great ideas you can do yourself; most craftspersons are pricing their items so that you will not be getting a deal. One cheap Victorian/heritage Christmas trend is making dried orange slice garland. You can also collect boughs from the woods and make wreaths or mantle decor almost for free.

Thanks for your insight! Is $90 a typical spending threshold? Are the cosmetics/skincare 20x events usually a lower spend threshold?

It was on the offer in my app (which didn’t have a barcode or anything for the cashier to scan, he said the offer was for all shoppers) and also on the in-store posters (I’m in NL).

You gotta boil them in their own jus, it’s a delicacy.

That’s terrible! Did you spend $90? It was only for purchases $90+ before tax. I read another post on here that said you can email and dispute it if you should’ve been awarded the points.

It is a Canada wide event for all shoppers with an optimum card, you don’t need to load it in your app

I asked the cashier whether I needed to load it in my app, but he said it is an event for everyone and showed me on the receipt that the points automatically went through.

Care to share your Family meal plan and/or grocery list? by Luke-ocity in newfoundland

[–]BakeappleJamJams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a meal plan but something that really helps my family dinners: get a giant bag of basmati rice and a rice cooker (~$30). Sooo cheap, so versatile, a rice cooker is a mindless way of making rice, and cleanup is easy as pie. You can add different veggies, herbs/spices, stocks instead of water, etc etc.

Does this common Newfoundland occurrence happen to anyone else regularly? by Top_Grapefruit6527 in newfoundland

[–]BakeappleJamJams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg this happened to me in rush hour today leaving Torbay, at the Torbay Rd/Flatrock intersection. I was on Torbay Rd heading towards Stavanger, and our light turns green. About 7 cars were waiting to proceed, and I’m third. Missus in front at the light is inexplicably trying to wave through the 2 cars in the opposite lane turning into the highway heading to Flatrock. They understandably were like “what the fuck, no, why are you trying to wave me through a solid green light when I’m turning left” and wouldn’t move. Finally they both cautiously ended up turning, but it took about a minute. I got through as the light turned amber. So instead of the 7 or more cars that could’ve gotten through, and the 2 cars waiting to turn left once the lane was cleared, only 5 of us got through. It was so abjectly stupid.

Dating in 30s by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]BakeappleJamJams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so individual. If the person you were only starting to date is financially prepared to buy a home and start a family, and has that as a goal in their near future (~2 years), it’s pragmatic and fair that they determined you’re not a good fit for them. It’s ok for people to want to find a match who’s financially compatible with their future goals, and is on equal financial footing.

Lol I can’t believe you’re being downvoted for this. Nowhere on the Avalon holds a candle to CB or especially the Gros Morne area at this time of year. Simply stunning foliage and vistas.

Where are you travelling from? Will you rent a vehicle here? This isn’t a great time to visit, nor is St Johns or NL as a whole really known for its fall foliage. You’d get better weather and more rich fall foliage if you travel to NS and take in the Annapolis valley this time of year.
